Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa & having breakfast in my kitchen spot. The girls are still sleeping & their dad's at work again so it's nice and quiet down here 😊

The washer's on for the towels & there's pots to go away, but not much else in the way of housework being done today.

We're going to have a steady one after a bit of a shopping spree yesterday. I had an absolute ball & we sorted prom shoes and jewellery for all of £8, so the ones we ordered originally are likely to be returned if/when they do turn up 🤷‍♀️

I plan to do a bit more painting of a prop for work - I'm re-painting it & it's taking quite a few coats to cover what I struggled to sand off of the original paint 🙄 Also need to find some eyes for a crochet project. I'm thinking glittery blue but no idea where to find them!

Dd2 will probably play with her new make up, and wants me to shape her nails - she's been working on not biting & is doing really well. Dd1 will likely just mooch in pj's.

I think my dad's coming for a brew & he will, no doubt, have done us some sort of shopping which I'll have to jenga into the fridge.

There's some braising steak defrosted that I'll turn into a pie for tea & we'll have with mash and some sort of veg 😋 After that, showers all round, and chill for the evening. I'll probably head to bed early since we're out early for prom nails being done.

What about all of you? 🙂

Dropping my middle child and his friend into town to the cinema and meeting my oldest friend for a catch up.

NoTeaNoShade · 25/06/2023 08:17

Good morning! First time commenting on this lovely thread.

Currently still lazing around in bed, will get up soon and head out into the countryside for a walk. Then head to the shops for lunch bits but no idea what to have - roast dinner or bbq? Had bbq yesterday at DBro so that will be two days running, but feel like I have to make the most of the weather!

Buy the papers, sit in the garden, glass of something and peace and quiet. Perfect Sunday for me. Hope everybody has a peaceful day too.

Justonedayatatime11 · 25/06/2023 08:24

Woke up far too early and have crept downstairs to the sofa with my kindle while DH is still asleep.
I'm off to attempt to give my (eventually) new pony a bath today.... she was very neglected and badly treated by a previous owner but has come on leaps and bounds over the past 3 months.
Then collect DD from her dads, think it'll be DIY pizza for tea and probably an early night given that I'm already tired!

Morning lucysmam - sounds like you bagged a real bargain!
I have been off work for a week with an infected leg which isn’t healing as quickly as I’d hoped. The doc gave me another lot of antibiotics so I think I’ll start those today. Sadly it’s looking like DH & I may have to cancel our London trip (we’re supposed to be seeing Take That in Hyde Park). The tickets can’t be sold but at least we can get the hotel money back.
Not much planned for today. I need a few bits from Asda. Stir fry with bacon & egg noodles for tea. I was going to do it last night but then really fancied chips!

CrapBucket · 25/06/2023 08:28

How I love this thread ❤️

I’m nervously getting ready to start a new job tomorrow! Going to iron before it gets too warm, then meet friends for coffee, then an early night.

@RabbitsRock I really hope you recover quickly enough to make it to Take That, how rubbish that the tickets aren’t sellable

Peridot1 · 25/06/2023 08:29

Morning @lucysmam. Sounds like a good shopping trip yesterday!

Just me and the dog up here at the moment. Nothing much planned for the day. I need to do a few bits in the garden - weeding and dead heading. And we are going to mark out space in the top corner for a pergola and patio to get an idea of how big we want it. Other than that just planning on reading in the garden for the afternoon. Steak for dinner tonight and I think DH is going to do it in the bbq.

xsamix86 · 25/06/2023 08:33

I've just finished my first coffee of the day with my puppy in the garden. DD has had breakfast, DH and DSS are having a lie in. Almost time to get ready for work.
DH and DD will come and meet me at work later in time for home time after dropping DSS off, and then home for dinner before the bedtime routine starts.
I'm counting down the final weekends I have to work before I start a new job and get my weekends back with my family 🙂

lucysmam · 25/06/2023 08:33

@CrapBucket good luck with your interview! You've reminded me that I too need to iron so dd2 has school shirts for the week.

@RabbitsRock fingers crossed the antibiotics work quickly 🤞

Up with both the DC at the moment. They are watching Duck Tails while i mooch on my phone. DH was out last night, so I don't expect him to surface any time soon.

I think we'll likely go for a walk. We have some lovely countryside on our doorstep and haven't been for a walk for a while as it's been either too hot or too wet!

KateJohns · 25/06/2023 08:36

It's going to be close to 30c today apparently so 80% of the day will be spent in front of a fan.
The other 20% will be sorting washing, tidying the garden a little and making sure DD is ready for school tomorrow.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 25/06/2023 08:37

Good morning Lucysmam and all. Enjoy your peace! My dad was the same. He used to golf at the weekend and would drop off a dozen rolls from a local bakery before he went golfing. I miss those days.
Today will be very quiet. I had a nice, sociable day yesterday so I'll use today to recharge before childcare days ahead on Monday and Tuesday. It's feeling very heavy outside and thunder is forecast later, therefore anything I want to do in the garden needs to be sooner rather than later. A bit of deadheading and weeding. I have a gammon to cook for dinner and that's all I have planned

whatthehelldowecare · 25/06/2023 08:40

I'm just up and getting ready, I've recently joined the board of a sports organisation and today is my first board meeting!

Then I'll pop in on my dad on the way back, go to the gym and then back to chill

DH is nightshift tonight so it'll be a chilled one for me. We're away for a couple of days from tomorrow afternoon, so might get sorted for that

Baneofmyexistence · 25/06/2023 08:44

We’ve had a lazy morning so far. Got to take my DD to a soft play party, which is my idea of hell but she will enjoy it 😂 Then homework, washing and getting organised for the week. DS wants to go out on his bike, he’s trying hard to ride without stabilisers. A fairly quiet day today.

BunnyBettChetwynnd · 25/06/2023 08:45

@whatthehelldowecare How lovely to be going away for a couple of days. I so enjoy packing for a trip. Hope you're going somewhere wonderful.

I'm just having a coffee in the sunshine. It's so quiet here all I can hear is birdsong and the dog snoring. We're off for a walk next and when I get back I'm going to start my new project. Someone was giving away some wood 'free to collector' and I'm going to make a window box to fill with the plants I've grown from seed.

thebigcheeselover · 25/06/2023 08:47

DH has been called out on a work emergency. He won't be back before 1am at the earliest. X3 teen DC are out all so I have the house to myself for the first time this year. I've already deep cleaned the kitchen, loads of washing to do. The first is already out on the line. Boil washing all bedding today. Will go for a walk early eve when it's a bit cooler. Have a good Sunday all !

treacledan71 · 25/06/2023 08:48

Morning. House tidyish. Other half at work. Going to pop to local town to home bargains get a few bits. Normally work from home 3 to 4 days a week but in the office 4 days this week so need to make sure uniform and clothes organised as normally can do daily. Do some precooking for in the week too. Might do an hours work too as big event on at work so normal work won't happen. Have a good day x

Holly03 · 25/06/2023 08:48

unpacking, cleaning, getting organised for the morning and hopefully getting a food shop order in soon

mondaytosunday · 25/06/2023 08:50

Whoa that's quite a lot for a quiet day OP! I'm back in bed, had a cup of tea and small slice of Bovril on bread so I don't get hunger pangs (usually have breakfast at 8am). Cats fed. Dogs been out back and as it's a scorcher (predicted to be 30) I think I've already missed the slot to walk them (12 and 14 and older one doesn't handle the heat that well). Longer walk later tonight.
Daughter was at 18th birthday party last night so she's going to be in bed til past noon I bet!
Main goal is to stay cool and finish a couple crochet projects. The heat zaps my energy. But should cool off this week!

Giselletheunicorn · 25/06/2023 08:50

Taking my kid to the bike/scooter track in town before sun gets too unbearable for the day.

Nussbaum · 25/06/2023 08:51

I woke up early today, so I took the dog for an early morning walk, hung the laundry out and now sat with my feet up in the garden. I will be going to my eldest later for a BBQ.

AllotmentTime · 25/06/2023 09:07

I will be trying to find things to do with the DC that don’t wear me out. I’m recovering from surgery and pretty knackered! UNO maybe, or junior monopoly. DS probably has a bit of homework.

DH cleaned yesterday and has done most of the laundry. I might try and do the last bit later, but even with the things I can do, I’m finding I’m so slow that he basically beats me to it 🤦‍♀️

Other than that, might sit in the sun and read my book. Greek salad & ciabatta bread for tea later.

Simonjt · 25/06/2023 09:10

Morning everyone, day four of glastonbury for us, we’re leaving tonight rather than Monday morning, so we’re going to start packing things so we can leave as soon as we get back to the camp site, luckily the queue’s to leave the campervan park are usually quite small compared to the carparks.

We have a hospitality pass (we didn’t pay for it!), now last time that meant we could access their carpark, so I’m going to check today, if we can we’ll move to there as they close the exits until everyone who wants to leave there has left, so they don’t get stuck in road queues.

We’re off to the kids area in a bit, it has a huge play area, water park etc which is quite good.

MeinKraft · 25/06/2023 09:30

Morning everyone. I got up this morning to find DH had eaten the entire saucepan of chicken curry I left in the fridge when he got home from work last night Confused the pan and bowl were still sitting out so the place stank of curry! So I got them loaded into the dishwasher and it's running now. I also washed DS favourite t shirt he wanted to wear today last night and forgot to hang it up to dry so that's sorted but not sure if it'll dry in time 😬

Kids are just watching YouTube and puddling about this morning and I'm MNing/reading my book and doing the odd bit of housework. Need to get washed and dressed, going to visit family later. Would sometimes go to the park or something after that but it's quite wet here and there's thunderstorms predicted for later so we might just come straight home. Will probably nip to Tesco then for lunchbox stuff.

lucysmam · 25/06/2023 09:46

@MeinKraft I like the phrase "puddling about" 🤣

@Simonjt jealous of you being at Glasto - we've been streaming the artists we wanted to watch & holding "Kitchenbury" wearing the most colourful sunnies I own 🙈. The kids area sounds fun!

@AllotmentTime it sounds like your dh is a good un...make sure you are resting up 💐

@mondaytosunday I don't like sitting still 🤷‍♀️ It's not much really & the girls will chip in with pastry making/cooking and anything else that's being done while they're down here.

I've found eyes for my project on ebay so will check no-one else wants anything then order them. I'm just about to finish my coffee, then get dressed & bring dd2's shirts down to iron.

Attending a Christening (it's going to be 31c here). Will show our faces for a little bit at the party and then come home and sit under fans.
