It was such a let down for the crowd and viewers, She still had 6 of her biggest hits to sing when the plug was pulled, including Summertime Sadness and Video Games.

There's only one person to blame for everyone being let down, isn't there? And that's the person who turned up late.

She was given a time slot. She was entirely free to use that slot any way she liked, and it appears that what she liked was for her fans to twiddle their thumbs in front of an empty stage for half an hour.

She needs to learn that the world does not revolve around her.

LaLaLouella · 25/06/2023 12:27

All this 'Lana isn't a big artist' stuff is just your musical tastes and prejudices showing - she's a huge international artist, has sold millions of albums and is the 27th most streamed artist on Spotify. She should have been headlining the Pyramid Stage

It is completely on brand for her to be late, somewhat melodramatic, chaotic, worried about her hairdo - it's her personality, it infuses her music and it's one of the reasons people who love her, really really love her.

If you want on time, completely professional, whip tight sets then go and see Taylor Swift or Lizzie (who I also both absolutely love!).

If you want musicians who show themselves in their music and performance and can be a bit shambolic but fabulous then go see Lana and Lewis Capaldi...

She can do what she wants at her own gigs.
But at a festival that’s just not on, when everything is run to such tight schedules.
And if she wants to go all diva about her hair, then fine. But accept the fact the curfew is there and adjust the set list accordingly. That was what was so shambolic.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 25/06/2023 12:54

I can't find her bit on iPlayer - am I being thick?

darkmodeon · 25/06/2023 12:58

Leftbutcameback · 25/06/2023 12:44

Or, knowing about the curfew, skipped to those songs once she’d been warned.

Exactly. Her time to do whatever she wanted she wanted to waste it

Crikeyalmighty · 25/06/2023 13:07

@LaLaLouella well then she needs to just accept in good grace then that Glastonbury's brand is 'running a tight ship and adhering to their licence' - she is paid extremely good money to perform, it's not a charity- I would only pay half her fee too. She can be as much of a diva as she wants on stage at her allotted and paid for time.

I actually quite like her music by the way

SequinsandStilettos · 25/06/2023 13:33

So looking at the set list she played 14 songs, some shortened, and did Video Games acapella with the crowd after mic cut.
Lana Del Rey Concert Setlist at Glastonbury Festival 2023 on June 24, 2023 | setlist.fm
She missed/cut "Venice Bitch", "Diet Mountain Dew", "Summertime Sadness", "National Anthem" and "Did You Know That There's A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd".

I like SS and NA so would have been gutted. That said, I also love West Coast and Chemtrails over the country club, neither of which she was ever going to play.

Thought Blossoms/Maneskin were also late on. Did they cut too or was that a technical/domino effect issue?

She's only sold around 10 and bit million albums.

GnR? Somewhere around 86 million. Three times as many sales for Appetite alone as she's done in seven albums. And then there's Slash (and Duff's) sales to include Velvet Revolver, Snakepit, The Conspirators and as a solo artist. Once you add in all the other bands and projects, there will be over a hundred million album sales just from the three of them.

Only herself to blame 🙄

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/06/2023 14:00

Not sure what point you’re trying to make?

She was late, of course her set had to be cut.

GraysPapaya · 25/06/2023 14:02

It’s a shame she was late, played poorly and didn’t do her best songs has left them until the end, so didn’t fit in them in before curfew!
She’s not Beyoncé, you treat people who book you like this and they’ll stop booking you. Fans get pissed off too.

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/06/2023 14:03

“It is completely on brand for her to be late, somewhat melodramatic, chaotic, worried about her hairdo - it's her personality, it infuses her music and it's one of the reasons people who love her, really really love her.”

Alternative view: rude, self-absorbed and incredibly disrespectful to her fans and fellow musicians.

KingofCats · 25/06/2023 14:18

She’s not on iplayer at all which is ridiculous. Don’t understand why BBC is dissing her too. Really disappointing about her set but it won’t stop me being a massive fan of her music.

Fatkittythinkitty · 25/06/2023 14:25

I really like Lana del ray but this is definitely her fuck up and not Glastonbury's. It's a shame her set isn't on iPlayer though. I'd been wondering what she was like live.

Yeah, GnR have sold a lot of albums, I don't disagree, they were amazing in their prime but that was a good 25 years ago. How many albums have they sold in the last 10 years? The new material they played (1 song maybe from the last 5 years) was the weakest and the most stupidly vulgar lyrically in the set. Axels vocals were extremely weak. For a headliner, They were a nostalgia choice.

LaLaLouella · 25/06/2023 14:28

And, I'm not particularly defending Lana Del Ray - it was disappointing she didn't do a full set. I'm just saying it's not particularly surprising and this tendency to be a bit melodramatic and chaotic is all part of her artistry and what makes her records so meaningful to so many of her fans...

Crikeyalmighty · 25/06/2023 14:35

@LaLaLouella I don't disagree on recorded music - but I'm afraid it doesn't translate very well to'live' - which has strict timetables to run by for all kinds of reasons, venues, staffing, licences etc.

BunnyBettChetwynnd · 25/06/2023 14:35

Diva turns up late and expects rules not to apply.

billysboy · 25/06/2023 14:36

Well said ,its not ok to be late and she should also realise no one is bigger than Glastonbury , at the risk of sounding like my Mum the person she has really let down by being late is herself

She no doubt has a lot of fans, some who seem more into her image than her music, but at a festival you have to deal with the consequences of being late. She prioritised pushing her so quirky persona over the music and giving her fans (and non fans who this is an intro to her music for) a full set. I think her actions demonstrate nicely why she shouldn't have been given a slot on the pyramid stage. Back in my youth I was a roadie for a moderately successful band most people have probably heard of even if they aren't fans of, pretty 'rock and roll' in image but they always made sure that they were on time and professional enough to get through a set.

Artoodeetoo · 25/06/2023 14:45

I imagine it will be on iplayer just might take some more editing to get it down to the set, usually with these things because timings are so strict they can be uploaded quickly as don't require a lot of tuning.

Selfesteem23 · 25/06/2023 15:06

Foo fighters were unplugged years ago. They over ran. Certainly not late but just were carrying on playing. They finished their last song unplugged from the venue speakers.

It absolutely happens to other artists. Venues have license restrictions this will include Glastonbury.

Doing your hair Is a shift reason to be half hour late at a festival.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 25/06/2023 15:08

WonderfulUsername · 25/06/2023 00:35

If she wanted to be treated like a professional, she should've acted like one and turned up for work on time.

This ^^ She ain’t all that!

Crikeyalmighty · 25/06/2023 15:23

He may be a bit old hat to some of the trendies on here but im going to bet Elton John is perfectly on time !!

There's a reason why some people can go on forever and others star crashes and burns quite quickly and professionalism is one of them- along with being nice to crew and venue staff and not awkward to work with.

VisionsOfSplendour · 25/06/2023 15:36

I dont know her music but she's clearly a big name so doubly pathetic to be late for a ridiculous reason, it's not like she had to be stage ready at 6am which might be a little bit more relatable, shed had all day for heavens sake

It's not artistry. It's at best arrogance (which never goes down well with actual professionals - or anybody else who is unfortunate enough to have to interact with such individuals in their professional or personal life) and quite often, due to substances, not bloody hair straighteners.

Just think of that crappy colleague or partner who can't be arsed to turn up when needed or get something done 'Oh, what am I like? It's really cute and endearing isn't it, that I value my time over everybody else's. Oh, you've done all the work for me, how lovely - why are you frowning at meeeee? Sob! I'm a VERY SPECIAL DELICATE INDIVIDUAL AND YOU MUST ALL OBEY MY WHIMS'. or misses their kid's Nativity because they were busy getting shitfaced.
