what a sorry excuse for being late

be a professional and organise yourself it’s a crap trait

This

LlynTegid · 25/06/2023 08:35

100% be on time. No sympathy if you are not.

I would make it a requirement that if an artist has been late for a gig in say the previous 12 months, you have to be advised as part of the information sent to you about set times etc.

SeanMean · 25/06/2023 08:41

So unprofessional of her!!!

Blankspace4 · 25/06/2023 08:44

Agree - her fault (and that of her team!) for being so late!!

It wasn't Glastonbury, but they cut off Bruce Springsteen at Hyde Park a few years ago because he over-ran. People should be on time.

We were there. Took him and Paul a while to realise that they were unplugged. Bruce does very long sets and he went over curfew

I've been to concerts where they've threatened to pull the plug as the venue's time restriction has passed. They were threatening it at the last Pulp concert in Sheffield as they were playing behind the curfew.

Artoodeetoo · 25/06/2023 09:20

She shouldn't have been late then.

LibertyLily · 25/06/2023 09:23

Love Lana del Rey but this was very unprofessional not to mention disappointing! Using her hair as an excuse is piss poor imho.

Guns N Roses had the same thing happen to them years ago at the Reading Festival because they were late. They tried to stage a sit in.

They've clearly wised up since then. Maybe Lana will too.

Curfews at these things tend to be very strict.

That was awful. They were painfully late that night. We gave up waiting for them!

If this was BBC2 then it was showing Guns and Roses half an hour late. They actually finished playing just before midnight.

AngeloMysterioso · 25/06/2023 09:28

She showed up half an hour late for a 1h 15m set because was doing her bloody hair. That’s just rude. It’s not like she didn’t have a lot of time beforehand to get ready, she wasn’t due to start til 10pm! Cutting your set virtually in half because you want your beehive to be perfect is ridiculous.

Prettypaisleyslippers · 25/06/2023 09:28

Proper order. Oasis were cut short at V festival after turning up late.

CountryParsonPetal · 25/06/2023 09:29

It was such a let down for the crowd and viewers, She still had 6 of her biggest hits to sing when the plug was pulled, including Summertime Sadness and Video Games.

Figgygal · 25/06/2023 09:30

These things are carefully timed
She was late
Anyone would have been treated the same

Idrankyourbananamilk · 25/06/2023 09:32

I saw her live a few years ago. She turned up late, dialled in her performance on about 6 songs and then left. Looked bored. Spent half the time during songs when she should have been singing walking the edge of the stage and saying “Hi, thank you, hello, thank you so much” to the people screaming how wonderful she was.

I was so disappointed as I love her music but she was SO unprofessional.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 25/06/2023 09:35

I was at Glastonbury when Bruce overran. As far as I rememer he wasn't late on, he was just giving an absolutely amazing performance and just kept going, encore after encore.

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 25/06/2023 09:37

I assume this thread was intended to make some point about female artists being treated differently to male artists. Backfired a bit, hasn’t it?

jfshu · 25/06/2023 10:01

Was she seriously late because of her hair? Couldn't believe that when I read it this morning, I usually love her music but hard to take someone seriously after that!

Newgirls · 25/06/2023 10:05

So weird. Was it hair or was it something technical? Maybe she was joking and it backfired. Sad situation

DarkDarkNight · 25/06/2023 10:05

I love her, she’s my favourite recording artist of all time but this was on her. She has been late for her recent shows as well. She will have been well aware that Glastonbury has curfews and they are different for different stages. She was due in stage at 22.30, if she wanted to do a full set she needed to be on time.

She did have some warning as well, or knew it was a possibility because I’m pretty sure she said something about cutting Venice Bitch and going straight to Diet Mountain Dew.

I feel for her, she seemed a bit shaky at first, I know she gets stage fright.

Crikeyalmighty · 25/06/2023 10:07

Thing is I've been with a band playing at Glastonbury. It's run to a strict timetable, and artists are on site at least an hour and 30 before. - someone keeps popping in saying stuff like 20 minutes to go etc!! This is plain rude and clearly a huge sense of being up her arse but I know a fair few like this and sadly mainly women. I would never book her again-

TheSeaDoesntKnowMyName · 25/06/2023 10:14

IceCreamQueen86 · 25/06/2023 00:28

I doubt Paul McCartney would be 30mins late because his hairdo took too long!

She seriously did not blame her 30 mins late on her hair??

Jesus!

She said "My hair takes so long to do! Super sorry that I'm so late" when she started her set. She wasn't laughing, and it didn't seem like a joke.

She then kept referring to the curfew... "I've got to rush this set to death". "I'm going to have to cut some songs"...

She sang some of Video Games with fans a capella, but she knew about the curfew, she knew the timings, and she knew her setlist... she could have reorganised so that she'd sing the biggest hits. She either didn't believe she'd actually get cut off, or she didn't want to perform them.

Crikeyalmighty · 25/06/2023 10:20

Just had a listen- I do actually quite like this but Suzanne vega did it years before (still does) - saw her this year- fantastic at 63 and not up her own backside! Book Suzanne!!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 25/06/2023 10:20

Have run a few mid range festival stages before, along with plenty of smaller gigs.

If you're late, you're late. Tough shit. I've cut some well known names for this in my own small arena and despite being a lowly stage manager, I have only ever had 'Good. Serves them right' from management - one band completely ended their career due to being dropped by everybody because of the way they'd piss around and treat the crew like shit. 'Never again' acts carry that with them wherever they go. And curfew is curfew.
