Lana Del Ray's set cut – would they have done that to Paul McCartney?!

No! And I turn the channel to the main stage and Gun n' Roses are still playing

I was at Glastonbury when Bruce overran. As far as I rememer he wasn't late on, he was just giving an absolutely amazing performance and just kept going, encore after encore.

And Michael Eavis was happy to pay the fine as he is a big fan, according to Mojo

unfortunateevents · 25/06/2023 10:36

If people think this wouldn't happen to a man, Rod Stewart was cut off last night at Plymouth for running over curfew. If Lana Del Rey really was late because of her hair that's so unprofessional. Apart from anything else, I've seen the finished product and I don't know if people would have noticed it had taken five minutes or an hour to produce the finished product!

Crikeyalmighty · 25/06/2023 10:41

@NeverDropYourMooncup and where was her manager. My H tour manages and his artist has never been a minute late as he's constantly counting down finishing with an 'arses on stage now'

They all know that's the score at these big events. You can get your licence cancelled as an event if you go more than a couple of minutes over- that's just how it is

AlecTrevelyan006 · 25/06/2023 10:51

She’s obviously a bit of a diva - when the organisers released the original lineup poster she complained about where her name was.

time to bin her off

3rdtm · 25/06/2023 11:00

She was unprofessional. She should have just put up her hair in a ponytail and performed.

It's an honor performing at Glastonbury and it's disrespectful and arrogant turning up late because of your hair. The fans are there for the music, not the hair.

Crikeyalmighty · 25/06/2023 11:09

@unfortunateevents ha, ha- I thought the same but thought folks might say 'ooh a bit bitchy'

MermaidEyes · 25/06/2023 11:11

I've been to some GnR gigs in the past where they got cut short because Axl was too busy throwing a diva strop in his dressing room to get on stage on time. He's matured since then and now they usually seem to appear on time. Lana will eventually learn (although I don't see her still performing in 30 years personally)

Me too! It was amazing.

This. She isn’t even that big of a bid deal.

LlynTegid · 25/06/2023 11:16

It's not just some women performers who are late. Justin Bieber at the O2 a few years ago comes to mind. For which I would have been happy to see him not allowed in the UK for a period of time.

TheRedDot · 25/06/2023 11:51

@LlynTegid I was at that concert. What an utter waste of time and money that was. Even my early teen kids have never liked him since.

HRTQueen · 25/06/2023 11:57

It’s unprofessional

If late due to technical issues you work around that

if late because of your hair do you have let your fans down no one else

Yes and it wasn't meant to be bitchy but (if the reason really WAS her hair) isn't the grown-up thing for her or any other performer to do is cut short the wardrobe and make-up and remember that most people are there purely for the performance and don't give a rat's arse how the artist looks? Particularly given that it's Glastonbury and all the fans have been living in tents for several days and have survived mostly without the benefit of hot showers and shampoo, never mind a hairdryer?

BarbaraofSeville · 25/06/2023 12:18

There are strict curfews and massive fines if they go over, to discourage entitled artists from taking the piss.

Sometimes they will pay the fine to keep going but presumably LDR didn't want this or it wasn't an option.

But blaming her hair was just unprofessional so hopefully she'll learn not to do it again. Or pay the fine if she plans to. Or she could have cut less popular material from her set.

LaLaLouella · 25/06/2023 12:27

All this 'Lana isn't a big artist' stuff is just your musical tastes and prejudices showing - she's a huge international artist, has sold millions of albums and is the 27th most streamed artist on Spotify. She should have been headlining the Pyramid Stage

It is completely on brand for her to be late, somewhat melodramatic, chaotic, worried about her hairdo - it's her personality, it infuses her music and it's one of the reasons people who love her, really really love her.

If you want on time, completely professional, whip tight sets then go and see Taylor Swift or Lizzie (who I also both absolutely love!).

If you want musicians who show themselves in their music and performance and can be a bit shambolic but fabulous then go see Lana and Lewis Capaldi...

HaveYouHeardOfARoadAtlas · 25/06/2023 12:32

I’d argue that her set wasn’t cut. She had specified times for her set and she didn’t perform for the first half of her set. Seemingly due to being an unprofessional diva. Hope they claim half her fee back.

BarbaraofSeville · 25/06/2023 12:34

Indeed, as a big artist she will know how festival timings work and what the rules are.

darkmodeon · 25/06/2023 12:35

CountryParsonPetal · 25/06/2023 09:29

It was such a let down for the crowd and viewers, She still had 6 of her biggest hits to sing when the plug was pulled, including Summertime Sadness and Video Games.

Then she should have started on time

massiveclamps · 25/06/2023 12:36

It is completely on brand for her to be late.

Is it? How tiresome. Perhaps she should start showing some respect for her audience, other performers and the venue organisers then.

EbonyRaven · 25/06/2023 12:37

Yes, as previous posters have said, she was late, so she deserved to be cut short Also, her music is breathtakingly dreary. and dirgey, and I don't think I could stand more than 15 minutes of listening to her anyway.

BarbaraofSeville · 25/06/2023 12:40

Can you imagine how chaotic festivals would be if everyone turned up when they felt like it and played as long as they wanted to?

Caramelatt · 25/06/2023 12:43

RedPanda901 · 25/06/2023 00:19

No! And I turn the channel to the main stage and Gun n' Roses are still playing

And her exuse for being late was her hair takes long. What a diva. No comparison to PM

Leftbutcameback · 25/06/2023 12:43

Really unprofessional to start her set so late - 11pm I heard. And she would have been warned about the curfew so she could have skipped the middle of the set and gone straight for the hits at the end but presumably assumed they wouldn’t actually turn the power off.

Leftbutcameback · 25/06/2023 12:44

darkmodeon · 25/06/2023 12:35

Then she should have started on time

Or, knowing about the curfew, skipped to those songs once she’d been warned.
