Anyone watching? I thought I’d make a thread we can drop in and out of to chat about what’s on.

Texas are playing right now. What an absolute bloody delight to see Sharleen Spiteri, looking exactly like herself at 55, giving it all. Her voice is still amazing. Rock on!

Wow Rick Ashley your voice is so rich and tone full if that’s even an adjective.

Babymamamama · 24/06/2023 12:19

Love that he still looks like a suburban bank manager but with that voice out of nowhere.

the80sweregreat · 24/06/2023 12:20

Big crowd for Mr Astley

I love how straightforward he is. “Of course I’m going to play my new song, the TV cameras are here, I’m not stupid.” “You’ll all know this one, don’t worry, it’s not Never Gonna Give You Up, we’ll play that at the end” Grin

the80sweregreat · 24/06/2023 12:24

The backing singers are great

JayAlfredPrufrock · 24/06/2023 12:30

Loving him but he seems very diffident.

whynotwhatknot · 24/06/2023 12:33

this is brilliant

Babymamamama · 24/06/2023 12:35

Highway to hell. Quel surprise but it works.

the80sweregreat · 24/06/2023 12:36

I wonder what Brian Johnson would think !
😂

the80sweregreat · 24/06/2023 12:39

I love the stewards getting involved
Some people need sunscreen , they are so burnt up.

"I’ve realised it’s better to take the piss yourself before anyone else gets a chance to. It may sound crass, and I don’t want to belittle the music, but I got to be a pop star and travel the world like an idiot, and I now live in a nice home because of it. Beyond a bit of therapy here and there, I came out of the experience relatively unscarred, and I have a wonderful life."

I think he's a realist, he's trying to connect with a much younger audience, he is probably right in that some of them do only know NGGYU and he's living his best life. I think he's played it beautifully.
I am sure I read that Pete Waterman said he had wanted and expected him to be huge/much bigger than he became because of *that8 voice but that in hindsight, Rick had probably had a happier, more stable life with the career he has had.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 24/06/2023 12:41

I hope he’s enjoyed it.

SequinsandStilettos · 24/06/2023 12:45

I hope so too. He's put some joy into my Saturday. He's giving his band a chance to shine. I hope he's had a blast.

Babymamamama · 24/06/2023 12:48

You could really tell how much it meant to him. And nice he gave props to his band. Top notch.

whynotwhatknot · 24/06/2023 12:50

Great setfrom rick

OrlandointheWilderness · 24/06/2023 12:51

Saw today the Billy Nomates has requested her footage be removed due to the vile online abuse she's had - I've never heard of her but I'm just looking at the set and I don't get what people hate so much?! She's definitely a bit of a strange fish but there is definitely strangest at glasto! 😂 and she can actually sing!

Floralnomad · 24/06/2023 13:04

Thoroughly enjoyed Rick Astley

the80sweregreat · 24/06/2023 13:05

Don't know who she is, but read about Billie Nomates and sounds awful what she had to put up with.
The curse of social media.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 24/06/2023 13:09

He’s on again later singing some Smiths covers with Blossoms

AlecTrevelyan006 · 24/06/2023 13:09

Rick Astley

the80sweregreat · 24/06/2023 13:13

I like the Blossoms !
Tom Ogden is cool
Watching Fred again, nice to see some older ravers there
Not really my thing, but he seems nice enough
It is similar to the chemical brothers , not that I'm up on 'rave' music that much

Crikeyalmighty · 24/06/2023 13:18

Hot chip are a good band- I suspect some of you like AM because they were massive when you were at Uni or in your first job and were great when pissed!! - at the end of the day it's an individual thing but to me (and I hear bands every day as part of job) they are one heck of a dull band with very average songs and an underwhelming lead singer. - mind you I think the same about Elbow- the difference being that Guy is a very lovely guy who communicates well . If you want to talk about bands at that time The Kaiser chiefs or Franz Ferdinand or even The Darkness to me had far more appeal and better songs. Foo Fighters are a just a good rock band - not really my bag but very tight musically - and Dave Grohl is one of musics lovely guys -- I suspect Guns N Roses will be the same .

Mind you I wouldn't ever want to follow Sparks who are fascinatingly quirky, very original and musically as tight as they come - and are probably not everyone's cup of tea.

Crikeyalmighty · 24/06/2023 13:21

By the way if you enjoy Rick Astley, in a similar vein Tony Hadley the singer from Spandau Ballet is terrific, his voice has really held up and he's a very lovely chap too - husbands met him a few times and he's terrific company and very down to earth
