My own little bolt hole

I'm seriously looking at buying a little caravan and putting it onto a campsite close by so I can have my own little bolt hole / haven away from everyone. Ive almost always lived alone or it's just been me and the boys. My OH moved in 2 years ago and almost immediately started working from home. I need a space of my own where nothing is moved or put away randomly or left in a mess or I'm talked to when I just want to sit in quiet!!!

I'm on the verge of buying one this weekend. Has anyone else done this or thought about it?!

Sounds like a great plan.

beachcomber70 · 23/06/2023 12:53

I did it years ago. It was a very old park home with a lovely garden. I'd go there at weekends, taking the dog and having lovely walks. It over looked a river estuary and I'd watch the boats go up and down, whilst reading. Friday was takeaway night and, at the time, some good TV.

Had to outside to the shower/toilet block though but that was ok. Another chap had a caravan because he was a night worker and could get decent sleep there rather than at home.

A great experience. But developers moved in and there are now executive homes on the site now. I hope you enjoy your space OP. I think it's a great idea.

Oh god yes, totally go for it OP!

I do this/have this/have always done this & also have friends who do it if they can... Having worked since 16/raised 3 DC's/been involved with 2 Step-DC's/always been around & available & involved with elderly parents (only one now)/very hands-on with DGC & just gone into my 60's - with a DH who likes his space/travel (not Space Travel - altho he wouldGrin)

I'm v v much fk-it... who knows how long we have left & as long as everyone's ok & I can get home quickly if needed... only one who "complains" is DS25 because I'm not always there to wait on him hand n foot

currently in Ibiza with my kindle & Earl Grey teabags - 3 days of walking wandering round hippy shops & snoozing

It sounds wonderful to me, I can totally relate! We’re just doing some work on our house that will give me my own little haven, and I’m so excited! It’s still in the house, obviously, but it’ll definitely have a lock on the door Grin

PollyAmour · 23/06/2023 13:29

It's a wonderful idea and everyone needs their own retreat, whether it's a caravan or a beach hut. I was browsing facebook marketplace and was really taken with a vintage caravan that had been beautifully restored but wasn't roadworthy, hence inexpensive. All I need is to persuade someone to load it into a trailer and drop it off in the field behind my house Grin

JellyBabiesToManual · 23/06/2023 13:46

Oh goodness, I can relate to this. Do please update us so we can all live vicariously through you.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 23/06/2023 13:53

It sounds perfect OP. It's so important to have space, even in a good solid relationship.

DH and I each have a room in our house which is "ours". We do visit, but if I'm in my room with the door shut DH won't come in without asking first, and isn't offended if I say I'm having some time off.

MMAMPWGHAP · 23/06/2023 14:24

If you don’t get it OP then try asking at sites you are interested in.
Met someone recently who did that and was tipped off about someone selling up at the end of the season.

RhubarbCrumbled · 23/06/2023 16:00

First update: I've found a seasonal pitch about 10 miles from home that I can afford!! This is getting exciting now!

Yay!!! Have you actually bought the caravan now?

RhubarbCrumbled · 23/06/2023 20:26

Not yet. I'm viewing two tomorrow!

Glad you’re going for it.

I’ve got a campervan that’s a bit of a bolt hole. I often take it out even if it’s just for a couple of hours and I brew up somewhere and read a book.

when the kids aren’t with me it’s bliss!

RhubarbCrumbled · 02/07/2023 14:04

I've done it!! Here's May, the Erica Puck all parked up on site and ready. It was so lovely just hanging out there today in the peace and quiet. There are four women on site who have bolt holes there so it's a popular thing!

If you're thinking about it then do it.
