Neighbour will not give me my parcel

AlwaysTheGoodGirl · 21/06/2023 23:13

I've had a parcel sent to my mum's house and it's gone to the neighbour. My mum sometimes can't get to the door in time and the delivery guy has logically taken it elsewhere to deliver it. To cut a long story short, this neighbour is horrible and has threatened and shouted at my mum in the past, and is not reasonable to deal with at all. I've tried knocking on the neighbour's door every day since Sunday and she is not answering. How do I get round this?! I feel like I don't want to keep trying and 'annoying' this neighbour as I don't want my mum to have to deal with any more hassle, but she can't just keep my stuff! Any suggestions welcome.

You need to contact whoever sent the parcel and get them to deal with non-delivery. If a big company, they will likely resend. Ask them to deliver to a safe space on your mum's property.

Soapyspuds · 21/06/2023 23:20

Take it up with sender. Their courier dropped it off at the wrong house.

Changeforachange · 21/06/2023 23:20

Sellotape a big A4 note on the door politely asking for her to either put it in your mum's step or text you with a convenient time to collect? She can't pretend not to see that.

Or yeah, report as missing.

AlwaysTheGoodGirl · 22/06/2023 00:18

It's an Amazon marketplace seller, and I've already contacted them to explain what's happened, and all they're saying is sorry but Royal Mail have delivered it and that's the end of it. I've asked again if there's a way to get it back and redelivered, still waiting for a response on that. It's a pair of Birkenstocks that I bought as a treat for myself as I've been having a crap few months and always just buy sale rubbish. I only wanted one nice thing 😭 The main concern is how things go between her and my mum who has felt uncomfortable in her home for years because of the way she pretty much attacked her.

I don't think the seller can say that as it hasn't been delivered to you. You're entitled to a refund and the seller needs to take it up with Royal Mail to get compensation

Jibo · 22/06/2023 00:28

Would the police help? Not 999 obviously but the community police? Technically it is theft.

Seller cannot claim it has been delivered to you when it hasn't. Claim for a refund. These Amazon guys keep doing these all the time. Sometimes they always drop at the wrong address 2 doors down

DNAwrangler · 22/06/2023 00:29

It hasn’t been delivered to you though - you don’t have it and can’t get it. They wouldn’t insist it had been delivered if it had gone to an address at the other end of the country…

DNAwrangler · 22/06/2023 00:30

As an aside can you leave a note with Royal mail/Amazon that future parcels are not to go to this particular house? Then if they do you’ll have an easier time of it. Sympathies, we have this with one of our neighbors.

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 22/06/2023 00:54

Was it paid by credit card? Ask your bank to do a charge back.

If Amazon cannot prove you received, the CC company will refund you.

Mumsnut · 22/06/2023 01:08

Ask your postie to knock

This. Why do they give it to the neighbour??

Underminer · 22/06/2023 01:23

Fill a greetings card full of glitter. Post it to neighbour’s address but with you mum’s name on. They’ll open it and get glittered. Won’t get your parcel back, but it will give them a reason to never take in anything again. 😈

Resisterance · 22/06/2023 03:15

I had exactly this this recently whilst out and amazon delivery sent to come neighbours who denied all knowledge of it. But then used the item in my ear shot whilst laughing. I made Amazon refund me.

Then I contacted Royal Mail to let them know and they sent me a sticker to put on my letter box to return anything to sorting office if they can't leave in my safe place.

I also tell all delivery drivers in person never to deliver my parcels to the next door house.

Frustrating and unbelievable behaviour though!

AlwaysTheGoodGirl · 22/06/2023 06:18

Yes, I wish I'd thought of adding the instruction not to deliver it to that neighbour, but it didn't occur to me as it's never happened before. I'll know for the future though. Thanks for the advice, I'll keep on at the seller for a refund. Equally though, I'd be really really annoyed if I see her walking around in my bloody shoes after the way she's treated my.mum. What a crap thing to do, eh... 😨

Just to add insult to injury, I've got the Royal Mail tracking number which shows this woman's surname, with a photo of her in her doorway receiving the parcel in her shorty pyjamas with her knee pointed out in a fancy pose.....

I'd print off the picture of her accepting it and post it through her door, with a message. Saying, if it's not given back to us in 24 hours, I'm contacting the police. If you hear nothing, call up the police.

Speechless.

This is absolutely unhinged.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 22/06/2023 06:30

The seller needs to refund you and then speak to Royal Mail and claim their costs back from them.

But I feel for them - it's not their fault RM delivered to the wrong house and your neighbour is being a PITA and not returning the item.

olympicsrock · 22/06/2023 06:31

You didn’t say if she was actually in when you knocked. Perhaps she was at work/ shopping…. Perhaps she is waiting for your mum to collect the parcel
You could try sending a letter before assuming she is refusing to give the parcel back

bumblebee2235 · 22/06/2023 06:31

Mumsnut · 22/06/2023 01:08

Ask your postie to knock

Yes do this, I had a postie pick up a parcel again then redeliver when they got wrong house.. as we were in flats each neighbour thought it was another neighbours so left it in hall.

Annfr · 22/06/2023 06:38

The company you bought from have a responsibility to deliver to you personally. They obviously haven't done this. If you bring it up with Amazon customer service (rather than the seller) they will deal with it for you.

This is the best plan, along with RM delivery message. Keeping it is theft.

Surely this is theft? I appreciate police are stretched but this is absolutely not legal there's no doubt where it went

pinkginfizz9 · 22/06/2023 06:41

Maybe she is just away for a few days?
