Neighbour will not give me my parcel

AlwaysTheGoodGirl · 21/06/2023 23:13

I've had a parcel sent to my mum's house and it's gone to the neighbour. My mum sometimes can't get to the door in time and the delivery guy has logically taken it elsewhere to deliver it. To cut a long story short, this neighbour is horrible and has threatened and shouted at my mum in the past, and is not reasonable to deal with at all. I've tried knocking on the neighbour's door every day since Sunday and she is not answering. How do I get round this?! I feel like I don't want to keep trying and 'annoying' this neighbour as I don't want my mum to have to deal with any more hassle, but she can't just keep my stuff! Any suggestions welcome.

I don't think the seller can say that as it hasn't been delivered to you. You're entitled to a refund and the seller needs to take it up with Royal Mail to get compensation

This is not true.

pinkginfizz9 · 22/06/2023 06:41

Maybe she is just away for a few days?

This! I read all your posts expecting you to say she was in but nothing you've posted actually suggests she's definitely been at home when you've knocked?

Gh12345 · 22/06/2023 06:47

Op this is the guidance from RM:
I've received a card saying mail has been left with a neighbourIf you’re out when we try to deliver we might leave your delivery with a neighbour. We'll leave a red card and in some cases tell you which neighbour, including their name and house number This is instead of the item being returned to your local Customer Service Point. You can opt out of having your mail delivered to your neighbour here.

I don’t really think it’s fair to blame the seller and ask for compensation. Leave a note on the neighbours door

clarrylove · 22/06/2023 06:48

You need to update RM with your safe place or what to do if you are not in, so it is on file for next time.

Alargeoneplease89 · 22/06/2023 06:48

If you have bought it from Amazon use the chat function and talk to Amazon (I know you said third party seller) but I've had issues with third party sellers and Amazon stepped in.

Thisisbollocksmark · 22/06/2023 06:50

Amazon should step in if you don't get a satisfactory response from the marketplace seller.

There is no proof of delivery. I can't remember the details now, but there was an occasion I had to send a picture of my own hallway to prove I didn't even have the same flooring.

ClickingTock123 · 22/06/2023 06:51

Put a note through the dickhead's door saying the parcel is urgent for medicinal purposes and if he doesn't leave it by her front door by the end of the day you'll be contacting the police. Twat. Isn't life hard enough?!

MrsElsa · 22/06/2023 06:56

Don't waste time messaging back and forth with the seller, go directly to whatever the formal process is for Amazon mktplace.

It's been delivered to the wrong place, end of story

bussteward · 22/06/2023 07:02

Hasn’t this only been going on since Sunday? Is she definitely in when you’re knocking? My neighbours and I can play back and forth with parcels for weeks, our schedules never coincide.

If your mum regularly can’t get to the door in time, a lockbox might be an idea. But also don’t get your stuff delivered there!

Twilightstarbright · 22/06/2023 07:17

A random neighbour was given a parcel of mine (think ten doors down). I knocked twice then put a note in saying thanks for taking the parcel, my number is XXX please let me know when I can collect.

Just to add insult to injury, I've got the Royal Mail tracking number which shows this woman's surname, with a photo of her in her doorway receiving the parcel in her shorty pyjamas with her knee pointed out in a fancy pose.....

Name and shame with photo on next door

topnoddy · 22/06/2023 07:26

If you haven't even spoken to this woman how do you know that she won't give you your parcel ?

Elderflower14 · 22/06/2023 07:37

Beautiful3 · 22/06/2023 06:26

I'd print off the picture of her accepting it and post it through her door, with a message. Saying, if it's not given back to us in 24 hours, I'm contacting the police. If you hear nothing, call up the police.

100% this!!!!

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 22/06/2023 07:49

If your mum regularly can’t get to the door in time, a lockbox might be an idea. But also don’t get your stuff delivered there!

We have one of these - very prominent next to the door - and I'd say only about 5% of people ever use it. They usually just leave parcels on the doorstep, or occasionally take them to a neighbour (thankfully, our neighbours are lovely, so no issues there).

I wonder every time why they just ignored the lock box, but I'm guessing they might worry that people won't check it regularly and/or claim that it hasn't been delivered - and then they (the deliverer) gets the blame; whereas if they leave it where you have to fall over it next time you leave the house, and have a photo of where they stuck it, they maybe feel less likely to get it in the neck.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 22/06/2023 07:51

Can you leave specific instructions with RM such as "Leave with any close neighbour except for No 22", or is it all or nothing? I'd hate for my parcels to be taken back to the sorting office and then have to go there during the half-hour per month that they're open for them - when I (or a lovely neighbour) was at home all the time.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 22/06/2023 07:53

I'd print off the picture of her accepting it and post it through her door

Have it blown up massive - ask your local print shop for 'Bishop Brennan size' - and then display it on the pavement opposite her front door Grin

stallonesbicep · 22/06/2023 07:55

Contact amazon customer service and explain. I had this issue before and the seller re-sent it out. Its completely unreasonable to say its been delivered when you havent got it.

Also, make sure to always put a note on saying "do NOT deliver to neighbour"

Ouchthisstings · 22/06/2023 07:55

VanillaImpulse · 22/06/2023 00:25

I don't think the seller can say that as it hasn't been delivered to you. You're entitled to a refund and the seller needs to take it up with Royal Mail to get compensation

This is correct. 'Delivery' is to you, not your postcard. There are complaint schemes through which either the seller or you can pursue it, but not both. (Easier for the seller).

Legally it is the seller's responsibility to get the item delivered to the person who has bought it. If the delivery company does not do this the seller has to rectify it as they are the ones who employed them. OP did not agree to RM's terms and conditions, the seller did.

Zonder · 22/06/2023 07:58

Can you contact Amazon directly if the seller won't engage?

stallonesbicep · 22/06/2023 07:59

Its not about blame, its about the fact it hasnt arrived. If you never received the parcel then they have to re-send or refund. Same if it had got lost in the post. Its not the fault of the receiver either!

lostparcel · 22/06/2023 08:00

The seller has to refund you.

I recently sent a parcel using Royal Mail and they said it was delivered but it wasn't.

As the sender it was up to me to contact Royal Mail and start a claim for compensation.

HerMammy · 22/06/2023 08:02

Contact Royal Mail and explain, they can ask the postie to retrieve it, it's really not difficult.

ripplingwater · 22/06/2023 08:02

This. Its the seller who has entered into a contract with the delivery service, not the receiver. Therefore, if its not delivered the seller should be the one sorting it out and re-sending. They are the ones who need to claim compensation from RM as they are the ones who used that delivery service.

uglybettty · 22/06/2023 08:02

Contact Amazon. Report the seller. Remind the seller of your communed rights and the rights a seller has to abide by as well. I'd also log it with the police non emergency number that this woman has stolen your mothers goods. They probs won't do anything but it's worth a shot.
