Neighbour will not give me my parcel

I've had a parcel sent to my mum's house and it's gone to the neighbour. My mum sometimes can't get to the door in time and the delivery guy has logically taken it elsewhere to deliver it. To cut a long story short, this neighbour is horrible and has threatened and shouted at my mum in the past, and is not reasonable to deal with at all. I've tried knocking on the neighbour's door every day since Sunday and she is not answering. How do I get round this?! I feel like I don't want to keep trying and 'annoying' this neighbour as I don't want my mum to have to deal with any more hassle, but she can't just keep my stuff! Any suggestions welcome.

Call the police and tell them that you are concerned about the welfare of an elderly neighbour (is she elderly?). Ask them to check on her in case she has fallen ill or died. Curtain twitch until they come round. When she answers the door to the cops feign delight at her well-being and oh by the way please give me my parcel.

That RM form only appears to let you opt-out of having your parcels left with ANY neighbour - which is annoying if you have two or three nice ones who wouldn't dream of stealing your parcels and you only want to specify not to leave it with the one nasty neighbour.

This thread is reminding me of some of the CF ones on here, where the opposite happens: people order something massive and then deliberately ignore the delivery person, so that they take it to the neighbour - and then they repeatedly ignore the neighbour when they come over, presumably because they ordered it in advance of when they need it and want it in the neighbour's way rather than their own in the meantime.

Hi. OH is a postie. The seller needs to report the loss to RM. The seller should either refund you or send a replacement. Don't involve the police or put notes on the door. Don't get the postie involved. Safety first, and all that. The dispute is wholly between the vendor and RM. How the sender carries out customer service to you is at their discretion.

Seller cannot claim it has been delivered to you when it hasn't. Claim for a refund. These Amazon guys keep doing these all the time. Sometimes they always drop at the wrong address 2 doors down

Except this wasn't delivered by Amazon - it was delivered by Royal Mail

no it's not, the postie is allowed to leave with neighbours, OP hasn't even spoke to the neighbour, so cannot claim they're refusing to hand it over. The police fgs 🙄

I'm genuinely amazed so many people have suggested getting the police involved when there isn't actually any proof the neighbour is refusing to give the OP her parcel. What are they expecting the police to actually do, turn up and break in when she doesn't answer the door only to find she's at work or gone away for a few days.

Thanks for all your input, everyone. Situation resolved. My mum took a deep breath and called through the fence to the neighbour when she spotted her in the garden and the parcel was passed over. I know it sounds like I've made a mountain out of a molehill, but this woman is just unpleasant and my mum is really intimidated by her. Anyway, all sorted. Thanks again for all the advice x

Get on chat with Amazon, they are usually very helpful and may just refund you themselves.

OP, for future deliveries perhaps you can nominate for your parcels to be sent to a nearby Amazon location (post office, local shop etc) so you can collect at your leisure? That way both your mother and this neighbour can be bypassed. Add the item to your basket then add a new address near your location, choose it for delivery before you finally place the order.

Hope Amazon help you sort this out - I've always found them helpful once I've managed to get hold of them. 🌹

But you could say that for everybody who wants to order stuff for delivery to their home - delivery people nowadays rarely ever wait more than five seconds after ringing the bell anyway.

Maybe they assume that everybody has camera doorbells now, so they figure they're just ringing the bell to trigger an alert to the householder and have no need to hang about personally.

If that was true how would they get anyone else to accept the parcel?

Are you saying that anyone who can’t go to the door within 5 seconds shouldn’t have parcels delivered to their house?
Or they need to have clear instructions in their door blablabla?

Fwiw we have instructions on the door. Most if the the delivery drivers dint read it or read half if it and go to the wrong place…. Despite the drawing.

People can be out, in the shower etc….

The fa t the OP’s mum isn’t as mobile isn’t not here nor there.
