Why are you still awake?

Just that really. Why are you still awake at 12.58 on a Tuesday night/Wednesday morning?

I've got a works summer fun day tomorrow. Going cycling with the work crew followed by a meal, and apparently a dip in the sea after....so I'm sort of treating it like a day off. Don't have to be there till 11. So enjoying the nighttime peace downstairs. TV off everyone else upstairs asleep. Bliss 🙂

Night shift, starting to feel the need to sleep. 6 hours to go.

Wherestheheatwave · 21/06/2023 01:50

Viewed a house today and trying to decide whether to put an offer in. Our house is not even on the market and there’s so much that needs to be done to it before it is. I’m so stressed trying to decide what the right thing to do is.

nowayhomer · 21/06/2023 01:50

Because my mum and sister have got very drunk and had a massive argument whilst away and it's all kicked off, I've been dragged into it and now can't sleep. But will be up at 6am regardless !

Browniegal13 · 21/06/2023 01:56

I’m in hospital waiting for a scan to see if I have appendicitis. I’m in so much pain.

@loubieloo4 i’ve been were you are right now. Gentle gentle hugs. One breath at a time. Join WAY. Am happy to pm you x

Chatting shit via text with my FWB 😁

Darkdarkdeeds · 21/06/2023 01:57

Prepping for a morning meeting tomorrow because there aren't enough hours in the day. Googling 'how to tell my manager that I fantasise about being hit by a car on a regular basis because of the stress I am under.' Fun times.

Jshq · 21/06/2023 01:58

Normal for me basically! Finished work just an bit ago, so winding down before eating and bed.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 21/06/2023 02:00

Waiting for DD to get back from Harry Styles!

Susiesue61 · 21/06/2023 02:07

Watching the ultimatum on Netflix 😂 Would happily stay up late and sleep late but DH is the other way round! Kicked him out to the sofa due to his snoring so going to go to sleep soon

Flowersandherbs · 21/06/2023 02:11

Been at an art show all day. Had a handful of canapés and some booze all day. Been such a big and emotional day for me. Can’t wind down . Proud of my achievements as someone who suffers from extreme anxiety and sensory issues, I’ve been fantastically professional and normal all day. So full of adrenalin and cortisol still, so I’m stimming with music and the wind from the open window while watching glasto, hoping to come down soon and be able to sleep. I’ve just completed a degree though and been asked to work on some very cool projects and I’ve struggled all my life with executive functioning and self belief so I’m having a moment . Even the tube journey I couldn’t do five years ago so I’ve come a really long way.

Ten years of night shift have wrecked my body clock. I rarely fall asleep until half three/four. It’s lovely and peaceful though. Just dh and the dog snoring quietly. Sometimes I just need the space of being awake on my own so that I can think.

Sending love to all those awake due to bereavement or worry. These hours can be long 💐

I was asleep then DS woke me up as he went to work (night shift) and I now have restless legs so can't get back to sleep. Getting them more and more lately. Perimenopause symptoms maybe? Bloody annoying.

I haven’t worked nights for years. But I totally get the sense of peace from just hearing the boys sleeping. My son with ASD was a huge challenge to get to sleep at night and his dad and I didn’t sleep for years. There’s something deeply comforting about hearing the pair of them snoring away. A sense of all being well in the world .

Bbomb · 21/06/2023 02:30

15 month old won't settle for more than 30 mins since 1am 😴😫
Enjoy your sports day

Hawkins0001 · 21/06/2023 02:33

Fell asleep earlier and trying to get back to zz

Dee03 · 21/06/2023 02:37

I'm at work....nhs HCA...5 1/2 hours until I can get home to my bed

stolenstoat · 21/06/2023 02:38

I planned a solstice swim for 3.00am, so tried to have an early night, but then couldn't sleep. I'm still going to swim, but I'll be a wreck at work today.

cassiatwenty · 21/06/2023 02:42

@Dee03 Do take care of yourself and treat yourself with something nice when you get home

Dee03 · 21/06/2023 02:54

@cassiatwenty Thanks 😊 it'll be a quick bowl of porridge then bed..ready to do it all again tomorrow night... but then I've got 6 nights off until I'm back in again so not too bad.

JeandeServiette · 21/06/2023 02:56

I've had two weeks of having to stay up late to get end of day reports from an American team (a bit of a situation going on). My ability to unwind afterwards is MIA. I think I'll try to avoid getting landed with this kind of job again. Too much swirling around my head too late at night.

5YearsLeft · 21/06/2023 02:56

@nowayhomer Oh god, what a massive faff. Tell them both off, loudly, tomorrow, when they have hangovers.

@Wherestheheatwave To answer your username, it’s where I am! But also… I do hope thé house thing all works out. And don’t get too attached to the idea of the perfect house. There are a lot of houses that can turn out to be perfect for you at the perfect time, so don’t stress yourself too much.

@Browniegal13 Oh no, I remember that appendicitis pain - I’m so sorry. Not had it again until I started having gall bladder attacks. It’s really something awful. It was almost a relief to wake up from surgery when they took it out. I do hope they determine what’s wrong with you and can sort it soon and help your pain.

@Threeboysadogandacat Damn circadian rhythms.

@WotNoUserName Damn restless legs. (they really are the shit).

@Bbomb Damn lack of sleep required by 15 month olds.

@Dee03 Bless! I’ve definitely needed NHS workers in the middle of the night in the past so I appreciate you.

@stolenstoat I almost forgot it was the solstice! Enjoy! It’s almost 3am now!

And I’m up because I’ve been incredibly sick since Saturday and trapped in bed trying to sleep through the worst of the pain so of course now, sleep won’t come when the damn stuff is supposed to. Bastard.

mybrainisbusybeingawesome · 21/06/2023 01:25

On nightshift no1 in paediatric a&e. Only 6.5hrs to go....

Do you do a rotting shift pattern? How does your body lock cope?

JeandeServiette · 21/06/2023 03:03

Rotating, not rotting! (I'm sure you think it's rotting.)

Shivvy1 · 21/06/2023 03:04

Because I suddenly and unexpectedly lost my beloved mum almost 3 months ago and my granny 3 weeks ago and haven't slept well since x
