What is the benchmark for the worst film you’ve ever seen?

Whenever you get a film that’s been rated poorly, what is the film you say “well it can’t be as bad as xxx”

Ours is Beaster Bunny. Not even my type of film. It’s one of dh’s million dollar movie craps. Except it was so bad he insisted I had to watch some of it, just so I can see how bad it was.

And it was baaaad. Like how on earth did this get released let alone even made bad.

Charlie’s Angels - the 2000s reboot with Drew Barrymore, Lucy Lui et al really is the absolute pits.

"William and Kate: the movie"

Loved Lost in Translation - why don't people like it, out of interest?

Because you watch it waiting for it to start and its finished. Utter drivel.

The Human Centipede.

Still traumatised by jt 😨

When you saw the title, what made you watch it😂

StillWantingADog · 20/06/2023 22:16

Ryan Reynolds isn’t in Lalaland.

Ryan Gosling is.

Oh, il rephrase that: I cannot STAND Ryan Gosling🤣

I can’t stand RR either!

TheaBrandt · 21/06/2023 08:51

I liked Lost in Translation made me feel I had been to Japan.

Royal Tenanbaums I hated due to the “ooh aren’t we cute and quirky” vibe. I also thought No Country for old men was crap and boring.

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 20/06/2023 23:47

Mosquito Coast. Went to see it with a boyfriend. All I can remember is that it had Harrison Ford in it. We walked out half way through.

Dh and I attempted to watch this the other day (I love both Harrison Ford and River P)

Awful. I’ve never seen HF so woefully miscast and even gorgeous RP couldn’t save it! I’m assuming the book was a bit erratic/quirky and it didn’t translate well.

MissTrip82 · 21/06/2023 09:01

I liked Lost in Translation when it came out then re-watched it a couple of years ago - the age difference really doesn’t come off well now, and it really seemed to have no plot in a way it didn’t before (that I’d noticed).

I like most Wes Anderson films including the Royal Tenanbaums but hated the Moonrise Kingdom one. So. Boring.

Wereisit · 21/06/2023 09:34

I loved lost in translation and still listen to the soundtrack. The age difference is fine, they don't shag.

TwoPairsOfPantsAndAMohairVest · 21/06/2023 09:42

Splice.

TwoPairsOfPantsAndAMohairVest · 21/06/2023 09:44

Oh and I remember renting Down With Love with Renee Zelwigger (sp?), shite.

TomPinch · 21/06/2023 11:12

Just about every person here is just naming films they don't like. The Royal Tenenbaums and Lost in Translation aren't objectively bad films by any measure. Love Actually hasn't aged well but it's well made.

Now, The Waterboy (1998) with Adam Sandler. Now that was a seriously shit, C-grade film.

Hildago was pretty awful too. Also C-grade.

Plotts with a View. That was Welsh, so W-grade I suppose.

Those are 'worst films' standard.

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 21/06/2023 11:16

Thank goodness you're here to set us straight TomPinch. Can you give me a full list of movies that are good and bad so next time I'm asked I can give the correct answer?

I'm sorry you need that much help. I suggest film reviews.

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 21/06/2023 11:31

Oh I can't do that; there are bad film reviews of The Royal Tenenbaums and Lost in Translation and you've clarified that those aren't bad films. You're the only one who can decide - please get the list to us ASAP.

In Time with Justin Timberlake

I loved this!

EarringsandLipstick · 21/06/2023 12:02

Just about every person here is just naming films they don't like.

I think you are right, in part. It's a very individual thing - a movie I love someone else will hate and vice versa. When you hate it, it is based on individual criteria that each of us set, and the movie fails on those. So we deem it a 'bad' movie.

However, there are lots and lots of films I hate (or would hate) e.g. anything violent or horror, anything intentionally cruel to children. So I really 'hate' Schindler's List and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas - I have only watched parts of the latter, and only watched the former late one night as it came on TV and I knew it was regarded as a superb film, so made myself watch it. I felt so upset and traumatised afterwards that for me, I 'hated' it, but of course, those are natural reactions to the film and its content and doesn't reflect its quality.

So I think most responses here are citing films posters hated as they deemed it really poor quality-wise, not just ones they don't like, inter alia

DisgustedOfTidmouth · 21/06/2023 06:47

The Hole.

I will never get that hour and a half of my life back.

Laurence Fox stars in that film, which I think is very appropriate given its title.

ItsNotRocketSalad · 21/06/2023 13:03

I enjoyed The Hole. And Laurence Fox does indeed play a complete 'hole, which I'm sure came quite easily to him.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 21/06/2023 13:11

Awww I liked The Hole, been a long time since I saw it though!

I had Covid in feb so I was watching all the shit films on prime.

One that springs to mind is a film called Aztec Rex. It's a film about 16th century conquistadors in Mexico, fighting a T Rex.

How it ever got made, I dont know. It was crappy acting, writing and everything else inbetween.

SuperSonicAyeAye · 21/06/2023 14:14

SomethingNastyInTheGenePool · 20/06/2023 22:07

@Marie2023 Do you mean Tokyo Story? My favourite film in the whole world!

There's a film called Japanese Story with Toni Collette. I quite liked it, although given how it ends and I haven't got over it many many years later not sure liked is the right word!

Catsmere · 21/06/2023 02:54

2001, A Space Odyssey. Longest and most boring film I’ve ever seen. “Tedious and pretentious” doesn’t begin to describe it.

I hated that one too. Didn't get to the end as I was so bored.

lieselotte · 21/06/2023 14:31

I don't really like films that much but the very worst I ever saw has to be Natural Born Killers.

FKATondelayo · 21/06/2023 16:59

I am very back and forth on Wes Anderson.

On one hand he made Rushmore, Steve Zissou and Darjeeling Limited - all horrible.

But on the other Isle of Dogs, Grand Budapest and Royal Tenenbaums - all great.

Lost in Translation is just boring. Nothing happens. I like Scarjo but I'm also probably the only person in the world who finds Bill Murray unappealing (Groundhog Day being an honourable exception.)
