What is the benchmark for the worst film you’ve ever seen?

Whenever you get a film that’s been rated poorly, what is the film you say “well it can’t be as bad as xxx”

Ours is Beaster Bunny. Not even my type of film. It’s one of dh’s million dollar movie craps. Except it was so bad he insisted I had to watch some of it, just so I can see how bad it was.

And it was baaaad. Like how on earth did this get released let alone even made bad.

Boxing Helena!

This too! Although whenever I talk about it nobody knows what I'm on about, so I describe it and they look at me as though I've gone mad 🤣

thebear1 · 20/06/2023 22:46

Sex and the city 2 and I wanted to like it but I hated
Thor love and thunder. Like most other things by the director but not this.

You've Got Mail?? NOOOOOO! It's one of my favourite films, I watch it every autumn - i think it captures that "autumn/Christmas in New York" vibe so well.

Also think Deuce Bigalow is hilarious - dh and I watched it again recently after going to the cinema to see it when it came out and we nearly wet ourselves laughing!

You've Got Mail is the first of the 'is she poorly? What's wrong with her face?' films. The acting was fine, the plot trite but charming, and I should have loved the escapism but it was the first film I saw where the face was startling. There have been so many since that I barely notice now. Such a shame.

LilyLemonade · 20/06/2023 22:50

Chéri.
absolutely dire

MouseMinge · 20/06/2023 22:50

I loved Lost in Translation when I saw it at the cinema a million years ago but I haven't seen it since so I'm not sure if I'd still love it now although I'm sure I'd still like it.

Someone said The Royal Tenenbaums which I also love but I get that Wes Anderson is an acquired taste. The Grand Budapest Hotel is one of my all-time favourite films.

One of the worst films I've ever seen is The Blood Beast Terror. It stars Peter Cushing who sort of wanders through the film wondering how on earth he ended up there. It's appallingly bad and absolutely hilarious. In terms of a film that I viscerally hate it has to be The English Patient. I know that it's not a bad film, I know that it's beautifully made and I know that it has a great cast and that the writing is probably very good too but I watched it and just wanted everyone to get it over with and die already. I didn't make it to the end. I can't think of a film before or since that I have hated so very, very much.

SomethingNastyInTheGenePool · 20/06/2023 22:50

Ohh, I’ve remembered another one! Happy Feet. Weird and wrong.

On the other hand, I loved Lost in Translation and The Royal Tenenbaums. I do wonder how LiT holds up now, though. I haven’t seen it since its original release, and found the whole “lip my stockings” scene a bit, er, problematic.

DH and I quite frequently reference Lucy as the worst film we collectively have watched.

Agreed. Also The Family (also Luc Besson) and The Thin Red Line. Got a top score on Snake on my Nokia 8210 during that yawnfest.

Backstreets · 20/06/2023 22:51

I love a lot of the movies mentioned!

mine’s z grade lovecraft horror Dagon, the sfx looked like papier mache and the flaying scene infuriated me (think the effects here were tinned tomatoes). I like a shit horror but this left a weirdly bad taste in the mouth.

I’ve just remembered another one - The Visit by M. Night Shyamalan. Ludicrous plot. Bad parenting all round.

AndTheSurveySays · 20/06/2023 22:55

Napoleon Dynamite. I cannot express how much I absolutely loathe the film, it's utter crap and I think less of anyone that likes it.

EarringsandLipstick · 20/06/2023 22:56

Another one The Lost Daughter. Both content & style.

Really upsetting treatment of a small child too.

Cattenberg · 20/06/2023 22:57

TomatoSandwiches · 20/06/2023 21:51

I'm a bit disappointed with the lack of Wes Anderson appreciation on this thread but hey ho 😂

Yes, I loved The Grand Budapest Hotel and always meant to watch The Royal Tenenbaums. I might not bother now!

I have a friend who’s obsessed with films and must have seen thousands. I think his least favourite was The Spice Girls Movie, which he took his niece to see. To be fair, she enjoyed it.

itme · 20/06/2023 23:00

The Horrid Henry film. Not keen on HH in any format but I thought the film might entertain my 6 year old. It was truly AWFUL. I had to turn it off.

Plus another vote for Mamma Mia. I had to turn it off after 20 minutes. I was cringing so hard at it - I couldn’t believe it was a real film that actually got made.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 20/06/2023 23:00

Pudsey the Dog: The Movie

I can only think this film was made as part of some kind of tax avoidance scheme.

I can’t stand this one either. Completely agree. How is it funny? It’s just…not.

Santa with muscles. So bad

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 20/06/2023 23:08

I can't be the first to mention AI surely?

Saw it in the cinema about 20 years ago and I'm still angry about how crap it was. And long. So very very long.

Mindovermatter247 · 20/06/2023 23:11

Paranormal activity
ive seen homemade ghost stories scarier… then they went on to make more… so crap…

iatealltheminieggs · 20/06/2023 23:20

Skyline. DH and I sat through it at the cinema not realising that we were both hating it and each wanted to just leave.

Since then we have the "Skyline Agreement". If you're hating a film, speak up and we'll get out of there.

SandcastleQueen · 20/06/2023 23:21

Domino. A film so shit that when they have a lurid, wonkily shot, heavily soundtracked drug bender scene, it's pretty much indistinguishable from the hot mess that is the rest of the film.

Also, Keira "I'm a BOUNTY HUNTER!" Knightly....no you're not mate 😂
