What is the benchmark for the worst film you’ve ever seen?

Whenever you get a film that’s been rated poorly, what is the film you say “well it can’t be as bad as xxx”

Ours is Beaster Bunny. Not even my type of film. It’s one of dh’s million dollar movie craps. Except it was so bad he insisted I had to watch some of it, just so I can see how bad it was.

And it was baaaad. Like how on earth did this get released let alone even made bad.

@FluffyPinkSocks
@Thebigblueballoon

Yes that's it!!

I was even laughing just rereading the plot on the Wikipedia link.

Sudename · 20/06/2023 23:23

In Time with Justin Timberlake

vickibee · 20/06/2023 23:25

The shape of water is weird and I believe it won accolades

Maribu · 20/06/2023 23:43

Zoolander

EllaRaines · 20/06/2023 23:44

The remake of Total Recall with Colin Farrell and Kate Beckinsale. Ms Beckinsale is attractive but cannot act for toffee!

We made a mistake and thought it was the original being shown on the telly (we no longer watch tv) and sat down to enjoy the Arnold Swartzenegger and Sharon Stone original and it was the remake which was an absolute pile of crap.

How did Beckinsale even pass an audition?

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 20/06/2023 23:47

Mosquito Coast. Went to see it with a boyfriend. All I can remember is that it had Harrison Ford in it. We walked out half way through.

Delphigirl · 20/06/2023 23:53

Scenes from a mall. Bette midler and Woody Allen shouting at each other, fast, for 2 hours. Excruciating.

rainydayfairy · 21/06/2023 00:01

The Hills Have Eyes and the Human Centipede were absolutely horrifying and I’d watch anything rather than watch them again. As they’re horror films though that probably makes them good, technically.

Sex and the city 2 was terrible.

I liked lost in translation.

MrsAvocet · 21/06/2023 00:03

The second Top Gun film. Just a rehash of the first one really but without the saving grace of a good soundtrack.

cassiatwenty · 21/06/2023 00:11

@Sudename i love that movie. Yes, a bit cheesy but also parts of it are aesthetically pleasing.

Revolutionary Road. Pure drivel.

I was in New York when they filmed it and saw Leonardo Di Caprio in a restaurant. So that’s a Sam Mendes film I haven’t seen. I think the worst one by him is his first movie.

mastertomsmum · 21/06/2023 00:34

Lorelaiandrory · 20/06/2023 22:28

I think our worst was American Beauty.

Yes, totally over hyped. Sicko plot

RenoDakota · 21/06/2023 01:02

Trading Places
The Boxtrolls.

Rob Zombie's Halloween remake. The only time I've ever left the cinema before the end of a film.

YES! & Halloween Ends was desperate too... & I say this as a massive Halloween fan

TomPinch · 21/06/2023 01:39

Oh dear. 32 mentions of films I really like. Not saying which though.

Catsmere · 21/06/2023 02:54

2001, A Space Odyssey. Longest and most boring film I’ve ever seen. “Tedious and pretentious” doesn’t begin to describe it.

Catsmere · 21/06/2023 03:02

Simianwalk · 20/06/2023 22:32

Bridget Jones Diary. Ugghhh women being reduced to ridiculousness. DH and I walked out the cinema.

I watched maybe fifteen minutes, tops, before turning it off. So unfunny.

Love Actually - totally unwatchable excruciation.

Oh god yes, my sister insisted on playing that one Christmas and it was dire. Boring, sexist garbage.

Monoceros · 21/06/2023 04:50

I scrolled through this thread and haven't seen anyone mention Men (director Alex Garland).
I was left speechless after watching this movie. It is so pretentious and up it's own arse. It tries really hard to be clever and different and fails miserably.

TheZenOne22 · 21/06/2023 06:04

Oooh love this question.

Route 666 - bad acting/plot - really cheesy/
non-scary horror film.

The Hulk - was the only film I’ve walked out of the cinema from.

Falling for Christmas - the last film I tried to watch but turned off before the end

illiterato · 21/06/2023 06:40

Lost in Translation is really divisive. For me, what made it bad was the fact that there was no real reason for her to stay if she didn’t want to. One of the first rules of good fiction is that there always has to be a reason for a character behaving as they are. I think the rule is called something like “ don’t shoot the lock out” , so basically don’t shoot the lock if you’ve got a key, don’t take out a crime kingpin singedhandedly if you could just call the cops. The writer has to come up with a plausible reason why the protagonist cannot do the obvious, boring things.

I watched it in the cinema and at one stage someone yelled “ for gods sake, just go home” and everyone laughed.

Ha- this really has not aged well, like Pretty Woman and Cold Feet.

DisgustedOfTidmouth · 21/06/2023 06:47

The Hole.

I will never get that hour and a half of my life back.

DueyCheatemAndHow · 21/06/2023 06:50

Sex and the City 2
Spiceworld

Actually cross thinking of the things I could have achieved rather than watching them!

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 20/06/2023 23:08

I can't be the first to mention AI surely?

Saw it in the cinema about 20 years ago and I'm still angry about how crap it was. And long. So very very long.

I rewatched this recently and actually really enjoyed it.
