Where the bastarding hell is all my summer footwear?!?

Disclaimer: I'm post menopausal and my memory has gone to shit which is why I find myself in this situation.

So sometime last year, late Autumn, I gathered up all my sandals, canvas shoes, and most importantly my red Birkenstock Madrids, and put them in a bag or a box, and then stashed them away until they were needed again this year because there really isn't room to have all the footwear out all year round. And now I can't find the fuckers anywhere!!! We live in a very small mid terrace 2-up-2-down and there just aren't that many places to look! And this is a large thing, like a full carrier bag size thing, not like a lost key or earring!

I've emptied the under-stairs cupboard (the place where my hopes and dreams go to die). I've searched the loft. I've dragged everything out from under the bed. I've had everything out of the airing cupboard. That is literally it, there's nowhere else I can think of to look! I know for a fact they didn't leave the house.

For the sake of my sanity, can anyone suggest anywhere that I haven't thought of? Anyone with a psychic gift for picturing the location of lost items? Anybody with a hotline to St Anthony? I can't afford to buy more and I'm at a complete loss! 😭

Thanks for answering, I really appreciate it! No garage but we do have a shed. I have stood in the doorway of the shed wondering if I could have been daft enough to put them in there because they would certainly go mouldy over winter. The shed is so full I can't get through the door but I guess I will have to look even though I really don't think I would have put them in there knowing about the mould problem. I have looked under our armchair and sofa and not there, good thought though! No sideboard or similar. Definitely not in kitchen...

In the loft. I know you've looked, but look again. Also, if you think it's in a particular bag, try to scrub that from your brain.

I once spent ages looking for a blue holdall with my winter hiking stuff in. Couldn't find it anywhere.

It turned out that it was all in a red holdall. I'd discounted it as I was convinced I was looking for a blue one

Definitely not in loft - it's not boarded out and we've only managed to balance and hang a few boxes and bags from the beams so it wasn't hard to look through everything and they're definitely not there. Not on top of either wardrobe. We only have 4 suitcases and I've looked in all of them! My memory being what it is, I don't even know whether I put them in a box, a bag, a holdall, or something else, literally no idea at all! Fml and my terrible memory! In the back of your wardrobe, probably in a different bag. Dsd2 just found her flipflops in such a location, having forgotten she put them there after 'unpacking' her suitcase after a holiday.

There's no way me or other half would throw away a box without checking contents. He pretty much never throws anything away and I can't dispose of anything without looking at all the options for reusing, recycling, regifting, etc.

In the bottom/back of your wardrobe. Hidden behind dresses/trousers in a space that doesn’t seem big enough to hide them.

I had some original 80s boots which i got re-heeled ready for a concert! I've searched the house high and low and all I can think of is I binned the bag in a menopausal fog (Did I take two bags downstairs, and instead of binning one, I binned two!??) Argh.

I remember my mum doing a menopausal clear out including some Abba furry boots. I have never forgiven her!! 🤪😂😜

I wouldn't put it past myself to do a menopausal clear out but I know I haven't done that over winter and not since the warmer weather started either. I've been in a very low state and unable to motivate myself out of my inertia for a few months and only started to get my energy back about a month ago and that's when I started to look for the shoes!

Do you have a car? In the boot?

Or one of those sofa footstools with a lift up lid and storage beneath?

We have one car, not in there. No storage stool... a bag on the back of a door though.... now there's a thought. Going to have a look right now!

Whose room is the second bedroom? Have you checked everywhere in there Did you get your winter shoes out at the time you put the summer ones away and have any recollection of unpacking them/dusting them off etc?

Did you ask your mum/sister/ mil if you could put it in their attic?

I just found out summer hats in a pile of crap in the corner of our bedroom that has been waiting all winter for DH to take to the loft, do you have a similar pile?
