Guess what packed lunch item got confiscated and handed to me at the end of the day?

DD aged 8 almost 9 (end of July), Year 4. Has SN incase it's relevant.

Packed lunch of:

Leftover Chicken in a white roll
2 finger kitkat
Sliced up grapes
Cucumber Sticks
Babybel
Carton of juice
Dip Pot of ketchup (for the sandwich)

Usually school don’t take items off children because the HT says she used to send her own DC to primary school with packed lunches and she hated having stuff taken from their lunch boxes – it’s a mainstream LA primary but higher than average number of SN/EHCPs according to most recent ofsted (December 22) so they’re generally understanding about fussiness/SN issues. DD has only once before had something confiscated.

So what did the lunch staff take issue with from DDs lunch?

Did they tell you? Or is this secondhand info. It's hard to believe they'd do that

IsThisReallyPC · 19/06/2023 18:29

Kitkat

Shopper727 · 19/06/2023 18:33

That’s shocking school clearly have no idea. I don’t think that’s a high salt meal at all. My son has sen and has a particular diet there is no policing of lunch boxes in school. Shocking. Wonder how much self is in their own school meals.

It was the roll with the chicken still in it

Because of too much salt in the rest of the lunch

WTAF.
I was going to vote grapes, you know, "choking risk"

IsThisReallyPC · 19/06/2023 18:33

So I avoided your extra comments incase you gave the game away before I made my guess.
The roll……really?!
!!!!
I would be marching into the school and absolutely laying down the law on this one.
The school have no authority do that!!
What the hell is wrong with them. How dare they. I’d understand if it was the chocolate, but only if it’s listed as unacceptable in the school rules but the roll is utter crap.
Do they police everything in the school.

dickheed · 19/06/2023 18:34

IF this is true, I'd be really annoyed that they took the most substantial part of the lunch and left your child with grapes, cucumber, babybel and a kitkat for lunch.
Who told you and who handed you the roll at the end of the day?

Oh I love it when people post to say the OPs post is pointless/ stupid / not high brow enough.

I'm going to guess unless you made your own sourdough roll and the rest of the contents were from the waitress Duchy range it should all have been banned. I personally grow everything I feed my child in my middle class organic garden in the Surrey Hills over looking a site of special scientific interest.

So I hope that makes you feel bad OP. Also, I took minutes of my life to reply but I feel strongly that your post is pointless silly and boring. Because I'm lovely like that.

Please feel free to pile onto me pointing out my spelling grammar. I love that too! Isn't MN a lovely place to come and share?

It was the protracted guessing game aspect that people were objecting to, nothing about the rest of the content of the post. We can have a more interesting discussion when we know what it's actually about.

“This is tedious” blah blah, so are you, just scroll back out ffs 🙄

You would think the title might give the contents of the post away wouldn't you?

It starts with word "guess..." yet people not only click but post to say they dislike guessing games.

I wonder if they click on threads entitled "My cat did....." to post that they find cat talk mind numbingly tedious too.

Like they read the title and think oh good, Discussion on the discovery of Lanthanides and Actinides.

It was two pages hardly protracted that would be 20

Caterina99 · 19/06/2023 18:38

I think that’s insane (if it’s true).

I can sort of understand the Kit Kat or the juice or even the ketchup. But to confiscate a chicken sandwich is utterly ridiculous.

Have they looked at what is served at school dinners because I think a huge amount is a lot less nutritious than a white chicken roll! Glad my kids get free school meals (Scotland) and I don’t have to deal with this nonsense

Riapia · 19/06/2023 18:43

Another example of fucking power crazed authoritarian twats posing as teachers.

nailsonthebus · 19/06/2023 18:44

How are they allowed to do that!

MagicBullet · 19/06/2023 18:45

Wtf
i would REALLY have a right go at them for that. I mean, do they allow crisps in packed lunches? Because that would have more salt than all of those items put together.

Tribblesarelovely · 19/06/2023 18:46

The chicken.

Thomasina79 · 19/06/2023 18:46

Taking away a kit kart is cruel. In all of the chocolate bars this is probably the most innocent. I don’t really eat chocolate nowadays, but bought one for myself the other day in preparation of pre operation advice last week. I knew I would be starving after 24 hours of no food and they only give you biscuits and tea post op. The kite kat was delist!

I don’t think schools should be taking away a child’s lunch in the first place!

Oblomov23 · 19/06/2023 18:46

No way. Stupid.

Jobinterviewhelpme · 19/06/2023 18:47

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 19/06/2023 17:59

Was it chicken nuggets in a roll?

Chicken nuggets in a roll??? Did you just make that up?

Threeboysadogandacat · 19/06/2023 18:48

Nothing should ever be confiscated from a child’s packed lunch (except alcohol or drugs). Even if it contains yesterdays KFC or crisps and a mars bar they should still be allowed to eat it and the parents should be reported to social services spoken to at pick up contacted later.

Imnotahoarderreally · 19/06/2023 18:49

I’m not even surprised anymore.
Head teachers must have to pass some sort of bureaucratic exam for those totally devoid of common sense before they get the post.

DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder · 19/06/2023 18:52

Mmm.

endofthelinefinally · 19/06/2023 18:53

Do schools employ qualified dieticians to inspect lunch boxes now? If not, They shouldn't be confiscating sandwiches.

AnyaMarx · 19/06/2023 18:54

What did they do present the sandwich back at the end of the day ?

Why did you say ? I'd have gone slightly batshit .

custardcreme77 · 19/06/2023 18:54

Riapia · 19/06/2023 18:43

Totally agree.

SeaSaltAir · 19/06/2023 18:55

The school are idiots. And they are the ones responsible for educating our kids.

Crummles · 19/06/2023 18:56

And what did they offer in place of the chicken roll?? Ie, the main carb and protein apart of your dd's lunch
