Costco Recommendations please!

Oh wise mumsnetters, I’m tagging along with some friends to Costco later this week. I’ve never been before so have no idea what to look out for!

I have a baby so thinking to pick up nappy’s in bulk etc but what bargains or Costco only items do you recommend? What can you get that’s just at Costco?

Kirkland peanut butter filled pretzels.....you can thank me later 🤣.

Cling film and tin foil. I kid you not the last roll of cling film I bought from there lasted me 7 years.

Kirkland sangria for summer garden drinks.

The duck bao buns and the vegetable spring rolls in the freezer section.

I also rate many of the ready to cook meals in the fridge section. Particularly the cottage pies and the beef stew with dumplings.

Their blankets are really great quality and wash well.

And of course a hot dog or slice of pizza from the café at the end.

Thanks for the tips, I think I’ll be trying almost all of them, the pretzels sound amazing!

I second the ready meals - specifically the enchiladas and butter chicken. Also, the truffle and black garlic crisps are delicious - very moreish though.

We tend to buy our meat from Costco now as well, make sure you read the label though and it reads British rather than USA (specifically relating to pork); their steaks are MASSIVE and 1 sirloin could easily feed a family.

Laundry detergent and fabric softener is also a good one, especially if you have a child like mine who is filthy 24/7.

ComputerInitiateJump · 19/06/2023 13:14

A cooked chicken (assuming you're a meat eater). They are really tasty and usually do 2 of us a roast dinner, a curry and a couple of lunches.

Kirkland toilet rolls, kitchen rolls and tissues. We store them in the shed. I'm not sure they are necessarily cheaper than the likes of Aldi etc but they are excellent quality.

Big boxes of walkers crisps.

The big blocks of cheddar. I spilt them up when I get home and wrap smaller portions in cling film and it lasts forever.

The frozen chicken tenders and pork sausages (assuming you have a big freezer as they're massive packs)

All the bakery cakes and biscuits 😋

TwigTheWonderKid · 19/06/2023 13:21

Be careful if you are going just to save money, I've found a lot of stuff is more expensive or similar price to Sainsbury's, plus you have to store it if it's bulky.

Exceptions I have found so far are enormous jars of peppercorns, the big blocks of cheddar and marinated anchovies. And coffee if there's a special offer.

But we usually go because my teenagers love the big chocolate cakes, enchiladas, bags of dinner rolls and pre-cooked bacon. Agree steaks are very good, and very huge, but in no way a bargain.

cocksstrideintheevening · 19/06/2023 13:33

Make sure you have the space to store what you buy, and it's not cheaper for most things it's the opportunity to buy in bulk.

I find all their own brand products good quality.

TheMurderousGoose · 19/06/2023 13:34

I love their veggie pakora. Think it might be vegan too.

Suuuuper delish. And very cheap.

I remember reading somewhere recently that Costco won't add the Kirkland name to anything that doesn't either match or surpass the quality of market leading brands.

Thanks everyone - I’ll 100% be comparing prices on my Tesco app whilst I’m there haha! But I’m interested in picking up stuff as well that you can’t necessarily get elsewhere too. Also great tip regarding the meat country of origin, I wouldn’t have even thought to check! And I’m a big cheese eater so will probably get one of the big blocks!

Two bite brownies, big prawn ring - separate and freeze. Frozen corn. All their meat is good. Maple syrup marinated pork loins, chicken kebabs, tomahawk steaks, all steak, all mince.

Pizza, hotdog, and mango smoothie from cafe on way out.

One thing to mention is that (at least in my Costco in Chingford) there is little to no phone reception and no customer wifi. I've always assumed this is intentional!

Hatincat · 19/06/2023 14:25

Black bin bags… massive roll and they never split.
we get chicken, salmon, sausages and beef there, separate and freeze.
massive bag of grated mozzarella also gets chucked in freezer too

areyouhavinglaugh · 19/06/2023 14:45

The large whole shell on frozen tiger prawns are great

Kids love: chicken tenders, cookie ice cream sandwiches, fries,

I like seaweed salad Korean style, enchiladas, Korean dumplings, and the enormous steaks.

If you have space the packs of fresh chicken are great value

areyouhavinglaugh · 19/06/2023 14:45

Oh and the wagu burgers are well worth the price!

Cookerhood · 19/06/2023 14:51

I've been to 3 or 4 and there's rarely enough phone reception to check prices!
The Wagu burgers are very good, we had some yesterday.
I always get a cooked chicken. We used to get delicious fresh tomato sauce for pasta. For some reason they have discontinued it & only have the spicy on & one with cheese in it. Both are nice but the tomato one was delicious.

vetoscope · 19/06/2023 14:55

Chocolate caramel pretzels
Enchiladas
Burritos (packed full of meat)
Brownie bites
Coffee beans

LancreWowhawk · 19/06/2023 15:03

Be careful not to buy any multipacks or big packs of anything that will go out of date before you can use it, even if it is a bargain.

We love:
Kirkland kitchen roll
Kirkland washing liquid
Big packs of Comfort Pure softener
Kirkland binbags
Quantum dishwasher tablets - when they are on deal, which is often
Kirkland wedges of parmesan
Huge packs of Yorkshire teabags
Coffee beans
Catering packs of Cadbury's hot chocolate
Chopped tinned tomatoes
Kirkland tuna

And I am sure loads of other stuff I'm forgetting! But these are all staples for us.

tapdancingmum · 19/06/2023 15:25

These ice pops are lovely as well as everything else people have mentioned 😀

wizzler · 19/06/2023 15:31

I always buy a big bag of frozen squid rings.
Dd always insists on Bao buns

Make sure you take account of the VAT when you are comparing prices

itsahotmess · 19/06/2023 15:36

Picking up so many tips here!

Glittertwins · 19/06/2023 16:33

Make sure you have enough space in the freezer first! The duck bao buns are delicious but no space here, just managed to squeeze the macaroni cheese croquettes in though.
Grey goose vodka is marginally cheaper than Tesco's offer price (can't depend on Tesco having it though), Bombay sapphire much cheaper. We have good reception so I was checking Tesco prices as we went

Matildahoney · 19/06/2023 17:20

The fresh mac and cheese is insane, lots of the frozen Chinese things are great.
Those peanut butter pretzel bites are like crack! 😂 They're dangerous!
Chilled Italian sausages.

Are these in the freezer section already frozen? If not, where can I find them please?

Thank you!😁

Sunnysunbun · 19/06/2023 17:31

Tinned tomatoes. The big packs of semi baked ciabatta are very good. I love the peanut butter and almond butter. .
Bin bags
Foil
Chia seeds
Pumpkin seeds
Fresh pesto

No they are not frozen. Often on the end of the aisle near the soft drinks. DS loves them.
