I like my house and I really like having nature on my doorstep. And I like that I can walk into town within 20mins.

I have a beautiful large park in 15 minutes walk, a common with woodland at the top of my street. Town is 20 mins walk, as is the mainline rail station. I can be in Birmingham in 20 minutes and London in an hour.
We have a local high street with shops and loads of bars, restarants and cafes. We have a big Mayday festival every year.
My allotment is 20 minutes walk away.

SNAP! Apart from the Mayday festival I could have written this (right down to the allotment) - and actually the walking times for me are slightly less.

I also live a 10 minute walk from my work and a 10 minute drive from my parents.

Public transport links here are excellent - I have buses to places I like to go to pretty much right outside my door.

And this is where I am originally from, so everybody talks like me, and in my opinion the locals here are some of the nicest people in the world.

Our house is in a fantastic location, close enough to town, but on the edge of a very quiet little estate. We have a beautiful park and extensive green space just outside, and can walk for miles without crossing a road.

Schools are great, it's close to work for DH and on the rare occasions I need to be in the office, I'm five minutes away.

Short of a major euromillions win, we'll be here forever.

I love that I mostly don’t have to drive! I can walk to shops, doctors, dentist, delis, independent bakeries, fishmongers, butchers, loads of coffee shops and nice independent restaurants. Beautiful parks and my running club. My gym.

I can also use public transport to get to the city centre in 20 minutes.

useitorlose · 18/06/2023 18:45

It's adjacent to a nice hotel where we use the leisure facilities, the climate is great 6 months of the year, the people are super friendly, it's safe and well maintained, it only takes me 15 mins to get to work and 5 mins to get to the nearest mall. When the sun sets, it's stunning. It's near the sea and it's hard to drive anywhere without seeing the sea on at least one side.

Themsthebrakes · 18/06/2023 18:49

Nothing. I am fed up of it. Lovely house in a lovely part of London with a large garden and tastefully renovated which just goes to show that achieving the dream does not mean the same thing as living it. I wish I was elsewhere most of my waking life. When I am on holiday, I would rather stay there in places which I do not particularly enjoy rather than even think about home.

bellamountain · 18/06/2023 18:50

It's so quiet and peaceful, we are so far away from the main road on a non through road, you can't hear any traffic. Only bird song right now.

SquashPenguin · 18/06/2023 18:55

I can see the Brecon Beacons from my house.

Same here. Loads of great places to cycle as well. Can't stand city life! Love being semi rural.

cryinglaughing · 18/06/2023 18:57

That I can look out any of my windows and see nothing but fields, trees and farmhouses dotted on the hills.

clipclop5 · 18/06/2023 18:57

That within 15 minutes I can be in the city centre, deep in the countryside or at the beach!

Cotswoldmama · 18/06/2023 18:59

I love the location of my house, it's a 5 minute walk from town and a 5 minute walk to beautiful countryside. I love the look of my house a Victorian semi and that even though we're close to town it's quite a quiet road and because we're on a hill we're not really over looked by neighbours.

EllaRaines · 18/06/2023 18:59

Only six houses including us. Peace and tranquility.

Mammyloveswine · 18/06/2023 19:01

I am 15 minutes from the coast... everyone I work with passed by my house so I am lucky to get offered lifts home by so many people if I get stuck (I can't drive for medical reasons but am always happy to get public transport!) ... I love the community spirit and how everyone knows everyone., it's really friendly!

notprincehamlet · 18/06/2023 19:02

Its proximity to an airport and the fact that I can be 500 miles and a body of water away from this hell hole in just over an hour

aintnospringchicken · 18/06/2023 19:03

I live around a 10 minutes walk from the sea, around 15 minutes walk from lovely NT property with wooded grounds and have a train station a couple of minutes from the house which would get me into the city centre in 8 minutes. There's an Asda within walking distance and a shopping centre within 15 minutes of walking with dozens of shops and restaurants.Slightly further walk away there's a lovely park with a large pond with swans and a variety of ducks. There is also an otter that can sometimes be spotted.

PollyCreo · 18/06/2023 19:03

I live by the sea, I wake up and can see the Med from my bedroom. From my balcony I can watch yachts and fishing boats sail by, never get bored of the view.

WarmWinterSun · 18/06/2023 19:05

A very friendly, down to earth community with people who care about their neighbours and look out for each other. I’ve lived in quite a lot of places but there people in my area are the best.

RampantIvy · 18/06/2023 19:06

Clean air
Low crime rate
Lovely neighbours
Country walks on our doorstep
Nice views
A decent pub in the village
A sense of community
Rail links (even if it is only hourly)

Mtande · 18/06/2023 19:08

I've got a nice old car seat in the front garden that means I can sit outside in comfort.

Rainsdropskeepfalling · 18/06/2023 19:08

It's a 15 mile drive from my job.

That when I retire I will be able to move away.

Living sonewhere with no hills and no running water (rivers, streams) is awful.

That must put you both in Coventry or Rugby or somewhere in between. I cannot think of anywhere else mainline with that 20min/60min timescale. Beautiful part of the country by the way and you can get anywhere in the UK reasonably quickly.

mondaytosunday · 18/06/2023 19:10

I love the layout of my house. Typical Victorian terrace which has been extended out back. Livingroom at front with crittal style doors that open to what would have been the back room but is now kitchen and area for piano which is open plan to the extension with dining table and big comfy armchair (with loo and boiler off to side) which has a wall of crittal style glass and double doors to my small but lovely garden. I clad the extension in soft yellow London brick slips to match the outside and that gave it a lot of character and warmth. I'm also blessed with lovely neighbours, walking distance to a couple parks for the dogs and 15 minutes to tube.

Dacadactyl · 18/06/2023 19:11

Quiet neighbours, decent views and close to both town and lively countryside.

Oblomov23 · 18/06/2023 19:13

I like it here. Traffic not too bad, close enough to get into London for an occasional visit, but green with beauty and countryside on our doorstep. Small enough, good schools. It's ok.
