I like my house and I really like having nature on my doorstep. And I like that I can walk into town within 20mins.

Everything, really. It's very pretty. Friendly community. Lots to do - shops, theatres, restaurants, pubs, museums, galleries, cinema, markets. In 20 minutes I can be in the countryside or central London.

It has great schools, and our house, though small and expensive for its size, is charming and in a fantastic location - we can walk everywhere. I feel very blessed to live here. The only thing that could improve it would be if I could move it to the coast - I miss the sea! But otherwise it's pretty much perfect.

Although having RTFT I now want to live with @PollyCreo! 😆

Our house is on a farm. We have endless views; trees, fields, dry stone walls, beautiful old farmhouses, steadings, animals, the hills. It's gorgeous and so peaceful.

This sounds absolutely wonderful!

I live a 15 minute walk to the beach, 20 minute walk to the train. It’s 20 minutes on the train to the Melbourne CBD. I love that I can cycle safely with a water view to different suburbs and beaches. I really like being able to access things without needing to use the car.

TheAirbender · 19/06/2023 08:13

Fast trains to London and Birmingham (think I must be in a similar location to a couple of the previous posters…wonderful Warwickshire!).

Semi rural, beautiful walks and nature nearby but also good local shopping and amenities.

Historic local town, lovely people, great schools. Used to live overseas but could not be happier to here and HOME.

Clawdy · 19/06/2023 08:14

Plenty of nice places to meet for coffee, and best of all, a little independent cinema five minutes walk from my house!

lljkk · 19/06/2023 08:28

Skylarks, buzzards, goldfinches, owls, kites. Occasional otter, or so I'm told.

Maddy70 · 19/06/2023 08:29

I can see mountains from my bedroom window and the sea from my lounge my views are stunning

I like so much about where I live. A beautiful small city with incredible history all around, plenty to do, I can walk to most places I want to go, great schools, excellent rail links, a nice sturdy house with a sunny garden just around the corner from my closest friend, surrounded by beautiful countryside, lovely shops, cafés and pubs, a good circle of nearby friends, my kids can cycle to their activities. People come from all over the world to visit, but I get to live here.

A303 · 19/06/2023 08:43

Huge, massive amounts of roadkill which during the current cost of living crisis come in very handy, especially with all the lovely barbecue weather we had last week.

BeethovenNinth · 19/06/2023 08:49

Small rural town near a fab city.

like that our town has a decent enough high street and sense of community. We are ten mins drive from amazing beaches and have woodland on our doorstep. A bus ride from an amazing city.

there is lots going on in our area.

BeethovenNinth · 19/06/2023 08:49

I love that we live in a detached house in a quiet, spacious cul-de-sac, with views of mountains from our windows.
We are on the edge of a small market town and can stroll into the centre in 15 minutes, where we can go for dinner and drinks. We probably have about 20 restaurants to choose from.
The town is totally surrounded by gorgeous countryside and there are walking/road cycling/mountain biking/wild swimming/wild camping opportunities galore - and lots of the town's residents are outdoorsy.
We have a beautiful daily dog walk a short distance from our front door.
We have a train station, with a major city 45 mins away for decent work opportunities. And we are connected to other locations by fast (70mph), empty roads.
It ticks every box for us.

LadyJ2023 · 19/06/2023 08:57

We live in a beautiful little town in Northumberland the cheviot hills are the view from our garden, sound of the river behind us. Lovely community, walk to town in 5 mins, beach is 145 mins away. So peaceful

BatshitFloralDress · 19/06/2023 08:57

The house prices are cheaper than they would be in a nice town.

cushioncovers · 19/06/2023 08:57

I have a house with a lovely well established garden that the previous owner put lots of work and love into.

Malarandras · 19/06/2023 08:59

The school bus picks the kids up/ drops them off at the end of the road. It’s very quiet, and people leave you in peace. We are close to the city but in a little known area so little crime or anti-social behaviour despite proximity to some of the most deprived areas in the country. Multiple train lines and motorways are all nearby so travel anywhere in the UK is fairly easy. We will move more rurally once the kids leave school though, I long for the peace and quiet of the countryside.

London is 50 mins away,
beach 1 hr away,
sprawling countryside for miles starting opposite our house.
Nice people and LOADS of creatives.
Lots of people very driven to put on amazing events for the community.
Every amenity I have needed has been with 20 mins, except kids circus skills classes but that's quite an ask haha.
Lots of lovely local businesses.
Lots of nice playgrounds, woodlands, lidos etc.
Near to bigger attractions such as thorpe park, legoland etc
Far enough away from family that they're not on our doorstep, far enough from airports that we don't get any plane noise but can be there within an hour which is nice for holidays.

We could do with a non-grotty and more-local soft play but there are a couple which are nice a drive away.

Ooooooh that is goals!

Seaitoverthere · 19/06/2023 09:13

We’ve moved from somewhere generally thought of as desirable to somewhere closer to what I consider to be home but people take the piss out of. The people are generally very friendly and helpful and I have a sense of belonging and being home. Having said that they are welcoming to outsiders and we have a steady stream of people from London, Bath and Bristol at the moment as property is cheap and transport links not too bad.

I love our new house that we are renovating and not in yet, every time I walk in I can’t believe it is ours. Nice parks, access to the beach and in 10 mins or so I can be in my friend’s kitchen overlooking a farm.

goilt · 19/06/2023 09:14

I love being close to Regent's Park and Camden Market, it's so buzzy and diverse but also a real community with useful amenities and proper size supermarkets. Great tube and bus connections and also Eurostar and several main line train stations within walking distance so great for getting around the UK. West End is 10 mins by tube. Schools are excellent and there are loads of family activities nearby. Our house is smaller than you'd expect for the budget and the garden is tiny - but it's a house at least and not a flat (not that all flats are bad but it feels more properly our own place than our previous flats).

Crikeyalmighty · 19/06/2023 09:30

On edge of Bath on hills. Beautiful NT land 2 minutes walk, lovely bath stone houses all around, quiet and great air 1 minute walk from very frequent bus and 5 minutes on bus into the city. House is totally gorgeous- sadly it's not ours- could not afford to buy it.

Easy access to multiple great farm shops and nice day visits to other very nice local towns. Well connected on train

Crikeyalmighty · 19/06/2023 09:34

@A303. You've got to be in Wiltshire- never been anywhere like it for roadkill. I'm frequently on the A303 and some days it's gut wrenching!!
