Boris stands down as MP with immediate effect part 3

DuncinToffee · 18/06/2023 16:56

Tomorrow is the Commons vote on the Privileges Committee's findings that Boris Johnson deliberately misled Parliament over Downing Street parties during lockdown

The vote is a free vote rather than being whipped either way. Tories have been told that the vote will be a one-line whip, meaning they will not be obliged to participate.

Boris Johnson is believed to have advised his backers to not vote against it.

Michael Gove confirmed on live tv that he will abstain

Tobias Elwood has u-turned on abstaining after hearing stories from voters

Rishi Sunak, who knows

JRM sounds like a MN poster. It’s everyone else’s fault because they didn’t ask the right questions. And whoever was in charge of his suit doesn’t like him much, he’s obviously got enough cash to buy a decent suit and he looks like a sack of shit.

RafaistheKingofClay · 19/06/2023 18:34

I really don’t think it’s the report that’s been making the House look ridiculous Jacob.

Cornettoninja · 19/06/2023 18:35

He’s really chucking out some greatest hits to get them going. Reference to communist china check, free speech check, conspiracy and secretive discussions check.

He’s very pleased for himself for someone who sounds like they spend too much time on above top secret.

I mean, we’re having a debate about whether Boris Johnson is a liar.

The same Boris Johnson who’s been fired from several jobs for being a liar.

Cornettoninja · 19/06/2023 18:40

Has JRM just argued that it’s impossible for the committee to surmise Boris’s intentions with reasonable suspicion but that the committees bias can be surmised with reasonable suspicion?

There’s a guy with a fantastic education just puking it all back up dressed as intelligence.

Fucking idiot. Practice getting to the point instead of surrounding it with complete irrelevance.

Kiwano · 19/06/2023 18:49

Unbelievable that JRM is coming out with the argument about not knowing Johnson's intentions. If we are saying that the only way to give a reliable judgment about someone's intentions is to be a mind reader, we should empty the prisons tomorrow, because an essential element of so many crimes is proof of intention - e.g. intention permanently to deprive for theft, intention to kill for murder, intention to penetrate without consent for rape.

If this is the level of intelligence you need to get an Oxford degree, Oxford dons should be hanging their heads in shame.

RafaistheKingofClay · 19/06/2023 18:50

Yes. Along with a bizarre argument about fixed penalty notices not meaning that you are guilty of something that I failed to follow but is presumably good news for those who are caught speeding or littering.

User135644 · 19/06/2023 18:54

Funny how Rees Mogg was always big on parliament being supreme and sovereign. Only when it suits.

Blossomtoes · 19/06/2023 18:54

I wish they’d all stop pontificating and just get on with the vote.

RafaistheKingofClay · 19/06/2023 18:58

What is Bill cash going on about?

And Boris wasn’t forced to resign he chose to resign anyway.

The law degree that Rees Mogg doesn't have is really coming in useful there.

RafaistheKingofClay · 19/06/2023 19:02

Keir had a beer!

Cornettoninja · 19/06/2023 19:03

RafaistheKingofClay · 19/06/2023 19:02

Keir had a beer!

I think cash has been on the whiskey!

It’s all impenetrable bullshit. By design.

RafaistheKingofClay · 19/06/2023 19:04

He now seems to be arguing that Boris can’t have knowingly misled the house because he didn’t know what the law was.

I figured Cash’s argument would be mad but not this mad.

RafaistheKingofClay · 19/06/2023 19:07

I don’t think there was any doubt at all that what happened at No 10 was against both the law and the guidance. And I think it’s fair to say that the man on the Clapham omnibus knows that so it’s inconceivable that the PM didn’t.

Well in normal circumstances anyway.

Cornettoninja · 19/06/2023 19:10

And there’s kiers beer. I really should have had a bingo card for this….

StormShadow · 19/06/2023 19:10

Robert Hutton has just referred to JRM having massive Ralph Wiggum energy, and now that's impossible to unsee.

Cornettoninja · 19/06/2023 19:12

Christ, who voted for this waffling bullshitter? Poor Stone.

StormShadow · 19/06/2023 19:15

'We need to find it in our hearts to move on'. Lmao.

RafaistheKingofClay · 19/06/2023 19:18

Thank fuck he’s finished. Not sure I agree any of those are reasonable reasons for voting against the report.

Zonder · 19/06/2023 19:24

guinnessguzzler · 19/06/2023 17:06

@Zonder You would know because if it were written by Chatgpt it might contain at least some element of truth 😁

Excellent point.

Cornettoninja · 19/06/2023 19:26

I’m a bit behind (had to pause because the child demanded nutrition - cheek!). The cries for forgiveness leave me cold. There can’t be forgiveness if no one takes responsibility and recognises they need to be forgiven.

Easier to be faux offended about language than it is to comment on the substance of the debate.
