Boris stands down as MP with immediate effect part 3

1000 replies

DuncinToffee · 18/06/2023 16:56

Tomorrow is the Commons vote on the Privileges Committee's findings that Boris Johnson deliberately misled Parliament over Downing Street parties during lockdown

The vote is a free vote rather than being whipped either way. Tories have been told that the vote will be a one-line whip, meaning they will not be obliged to participate.

Boris Johnson is believed to have advised his backers to not vote against it.

Michael Gove confirmed on live tv that he will abstain

Tobias Elwood has u-turned on abstaining after hearing stories from voters

Rishi Sunak, who knows

You said careful up on that high horse, I merely asked why? Clearly you can't answer. That's 'excruciating'.

Let's not pretend using phrases such as 'dearly departed' when referring to other posters is ok. It isn't.

Let’s not pretend that we have sensibilities so delicate that we can’t understand context and intention eh?

SerendipityJane · 02/07/2023 18:33

Nadine Dorries seat predicted to go Labour - with the biggest swing in electoral history.

And up to 50 Tory MPs seem ready to hammer the government on the Israeli Boycott Ban.

I turn my back for 4 hours and it all goes to shit.

I thought Nads hadn't properly resigned yet? I may be behind the times though.

I think the research was independent of timing. People want her gone more than the Tories.

Not a surprise. Even for those who are ideologically inclined to support the Conservatives, she's taking the utter piss. So it's inevitable that people will register their disapproval with the party.

I just cannot wait to see the wibbly Starmer and his equally wibbly front bench leading this great country. It's the stuff of dreams. We can only hope he allows Angie her very own bellow speech as they move their team into number 10. Not forgetting impartial Sue and impartial Harriet, bet they'll be allowed a toast of non alcoholic booze as Labour do not drink at work.

I am pleased @Janiie that you are accepting of the reality that Johnson's illegal birthday party and lying about has all but guaranteed a change of government.

Ahh @Janiie at last a post we can agree on. I can't wait either. Only I don't feel the need to call our politicians names - but we have been down that road before, haven't we?

Well your pals don't agree. Mad Nads, bints, Cruella, Bozo etc etc.

'I am pleased @Janiiethat you are accepting of the reality that Johnson's illegal birthday party and lying about has all but guaranteed a change of government'

Oh I'm so pleased that you're pleased jgw, though you're wrong, but there's nothing new there.

Jason118 · 02/07/2023 21:06

I wonder who's running the farm now?

@Janiie are you disagreeing with my assessment of why the Labour lead in the polls has grown marketedly over the last month?
You don't think it has anything to do with the Sunak having continued to support Johnson when the latter was lying repeatedly to parliament about illegal parties they both attended?

What is your explanation for this clamatous state of affairs for your heros?

'your heros'

🥱

They arent my heroes. Is Starmer your hero? No <well maybe he is Grin>

They are doing terribly in the polls because we had a pandemic that crashed the economy, the public are fed hysteria by the media so some believe it is all Evil Cake Eating Johnson's fault and Sunak is guilty by association. The media don't tend to get as excited by 10% benefit increases, cost of living payments, energy price caps etc.

When halfwit Starmer and his ragtaggle bunch are running the show we shall look back fondly on the days when all we had to worry about was cake in a tupperware box.

Zonder · 03/07/2023 08:11

halfwit Starmer

Nice. Especially for someone intelligent enough to get a first class honours and become a KC.

Zonder · 03/07/2023 08:13

I said this before and it got reported / deleted but I'm just going to suggest again that we go back to the interesting comments and posts and don't waste our breath on responding to time wasting comments. I know I'm speaking to myself here too!

Cornettoninja · 03/07/2023 08:13

The only people who believe that are the ones who believe the media telling them that the public are hysterical over cake eating.

The reality is there is a whole grubby list of grievances with Johnson and his cohort but you carry on believing that it’s all outrage over cake and everything is rosy otherwise.

Lots of folk have degrees it does not give them common sense, the ability to speak well publicly or the ability to lead a party let alone a country.

The pandemic got worse in June which is why the polls got worse for the Tories during the month. Of course, makes sense.

Do you have a degree?

Kiwano · 03/07/2023 08:30

So the excuse is going to be Covid now, is it? Not the fact that Sunak has not managed to get remotely close to any of his five aims, not the fact that Truss and Kwarteng trashed the economy, not the Brexit mess, not the fact that we have a government whose members past and present have been caught out repeatedly lying, channelling government contracts to their mates and relatives, not shitshows like Paterson, Pincher et al?

I wonder when it's going to dawn on Central Office that maybe the electorate has noticed that other countries also went through Covid without anything like the same level of sheer incompetence and corruption, and without all the other collateral mess that the Tories managed to attract.

I agree. Exhibits A-Z, the Tory cabinet 2019 onwards.

IClaudine · 03/07/2023 08:38

If Starmer is a halfwit, what is Johnson, an eighthwit? And Nads, oh what would poor Nads be?

RafaistheKingofClay · 03/07/2023 08:39

Just the current PM and the previous 2 would provide enough evidence.

Zonder · 03/07/2023 08:39

This takes us back to the idea that just saying something makes it so! Just saying there was no party makes it so. Just saying we will reduce inflation ... just saying we will stop the boats...

Why are you ignoring zonder's request to ignore those with opposing views?

You need a group meeting tbh to agree on strategy, all this 'ignore her!' from Zonder and claud then constant quoting me is as shambolic as Labour's front bench.
