What did you hate as a child, but love as an adult

For me it's mushrooms and also showers.

Mushrooms were the disgusting things that weren't nice in any way! Now I love them, eat the raw, fried, grilled, in soup etc 😋

I absolutely loathed showers, even to the point where I'd sit in the showe tray and try and have a really shallow bath! Love them now. Absolutely hate baths now and only have them when no alternative is available.

Not sure when I moved from a hate to a love...but there we go!

And also @musixa, my sister. Fought constantly, wouldn't talk to each other, wouldn't walk to school together. Now we speak everyday.

Going for a walk . . . As a kid I hate being dragged around for no reason.

But now. Love it!

Loads of food and drinks. I developed a far broader palate as an adult.

Gardening. Hated until about 6 years ago. Now I spend every possible hour in the garden, or drawing plans for the garden, or writing out plant lists.

Coffee. Going to bed early. Not being in the 'in' crowd. Classical music. My red hair. And another for mushrooms!

BarelyLiterate · 17/06/2023 18:19

Beer. My grandad gave me a taste of his brown ale which he kept in bottles in the sideboard. I clearly remember the horrible metallic smell and nasty, overwhelmingly bitter taste. And it was warm. I couldn’t believe how disgusting it was.
Then I went to university and met some guys who knew & loved their beer. They encouraged me to try the decent stuff. Now, I absolutely love my 🍺 and I’m planning to have a Bavarian Weissbier with my dinner tonight.
Conversely, the biggest treat I could possibly have as a child was a McDonalds strawberry milkshake. Now, I wouldn’t dream of having anything so sweet & sickly.

Property programs and looking in estate agents windows. My parents used to do it all the time and I thought it was sooo boring- now I love the modern equivalent of a good browse on rightmove!

Beetroot. Love it now and could happily eat a full jar of baby beet.

Yeah I forgot about that. Love it in a salad now. But a a child I was just like why would anyone eat this? For the good cooks, home-cooked beetroot with goats cheese and salad is like amazing, but I just cope with doing that tbh, without some support in the kitchen (a commis or prep chef? 😆)

SandyLand · 17/06/2023 18:58

can’t cope, it should have read!!

Another vote for mushrooms but I love them now! Years ago I stayed with a family in France who owned a 2nd home by a lake. Absolutely beautiful. They would pick mushrooms every day & oh my, I have never tasted anything so good!

The dark. I absolutely love the dark now, especially a cloudless starry night.
I can still get the creeps if I think too much about it though 😀
