On a scale of 1-10, how happy are you?

ChittyBangabang · 16/06/2023 19:08

1= miserable, nothing to be happy about

5= ok. Life could be better but I'm middling along.

10= ecstatic. Every aspect of life is wonderful and deeply fulfilling

I'd say I'm a 4. I'm coasting along but there is a sadness around living a half life.

What about you?

8 on paper everything is great and I quit a very stressful job for a slow paced one. Only now I’m bored! I honestly don’t think I can be pleased.

My life feels a bit quiet but I’m pregnant so hopefully that will change soon!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 16/06/2023 20:38

7- sometimes and 8, I’m quite content

I'd say 9 and the rest would be .5 a Labour government and .5 the UK back in Europe.

9 - I've had a great week.
Long may it continue.

Homeywomey · 16/06/2023 20:42

6-7 but ‘on paper’ I should be 8-9. Heathy, wonderful, healthy kids, enough money, good marriage in general, good friends, job could be more fulfilling but I’m looking for another one. Could do with a bit more money to have some more holidays. But I hover around 6-7, I think a lot is to do with hormones as it fluctuates depending on time of the month, and the never ending drudgery of having 2 small children!

Itsadogone · 16/06/2023 20:44

7.5, I would say 8 but there are a few things holding me back. I do feel like Im nearing peak life happiness though, two very young children, nice house (needs work done constantly but getting there), great husband and dog. The money side of things is probably the biggest let down! I was in a job I hated and I’d say I was probably a 3 or 4 then but I’m finally free

I seriously doubt people are scoring 9, genuinely, and yet are on mumsnet every single day 😂

I don't see the connection with a happiness score and whether one uses MN?

I would say around an 8 - I'm pretty content . I quite enjoy idling time away on MN but it's not the only way I spend my time 🤷‍♀️

caringcarer · 16/06/2023 20:50
  1. I'm really happy with my life and I've lost 2 1/2 stone on a diet so that gave me a huge boost.

I have a great life. Very happy marriage, lovely family, lovely home, job I love most of the time, no money worries, lots of time for hobbies and interests.

Lifelong eating disorder has taken hold a bit again though, which is always difficult.

RedRosie · 16/06/2023 21:02

So sorry @midnights0 I wish you better times. 💐

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 16/06/2023 21:05

a 6.

in theory I should be happier as got someone I’m seeing which is going well, but my job is a temporary contract and though I don’t really have financial troubles (only the usual everyday ones) I should be relieved about that. I don’t really have health issues either.

My one main issue is I need a holiday but don’t like going away alone and most friends are coupled up or doing other things. One friend finally agreed to go away with me for 2 weeks in September to Crete which will be after my contract ends.

9 (as I guess if something like a lottery win happened, I'd, in that moment, feel even happier).
I think it's down to a mixture of things. I've not had significant trauma in my life; I get pleasure and joy from simple things; I often don't see things as problems; I don't take things personally; I don't worry about what people think about me; I have a happy marriage; I'm close to both my children; I love my job; we have spare money and do things we love, I.e. holidays, meals out, weekends away; I don't have body hang ups and am happy with the way I look and love getting dressed up to go out; I'm not a worrier and I look on the bright side and I honestly feel that one day we'll be dead, so things often are that big a deal.

What do you imagine people who rate their life a 9 would be doing on their commute? Or when watching peppa pig or star wars for the billionth time?

Indeed!! Im at work, browsing mumsnet! (job is getting done, I work with my ears, not the computer!)

I would rate myself at an 8. Pretty happy, but a couple of things are missing/could be better, like some money worries, with COL, being in a job I like, but dont love, and which doesnt pay as much as it should, and not having kids yet.

but generally, I am pretty happy and enjoy my life a lot!

10 would be having enough money to not have to even work, and possibly finding the love of my life, and having kids!

Pretty happy. Don't want or desire anything. I've fine what I wanted to do, visited the countries I wanted. Have a lovely husband because I chose well, enjoy my job. Life is good, but this didn't happen by accident, I made it happen. I was lucky that I came from a loving family background. My mum is superb so I was lucky to have such good foundations.

grimmers44 · 16/06/2023 21:16

Have had a hard few years with ageing/sick/dying parents and my marriage isn't what I'd like it to be.

I try and appreciate the good things in my life (my grown up kids are wonderful and I have lots of good friends) but I tend to find myself dwelling a lot on what's missing. Wish I could shift my focus!

LaBefana · 16/06/2023 21:17

I suppose I'm lucky that I have always been easy to please (without having low standards) and also basically a cheerful type of person. Some people I have met seem to equate these things with stupidity, lack of subtlety, etc. That really annoys me.

Momo18 · 16/06/2023 21:36

It all depends what is happening in my life, my stress levels, sleep etc. A couple of weeks ago I was a 4, today I'm a 10. On average I'm mostly happy, but I haven't always been. I've had a brutal 15 year mental health condition that I'm finally free from.

riotlady · 16/06/2023 21:41

8.5. Very happily married, one DC and another on the way (although being pregnant is a blessing overall it is making day to day life a bit uncomfortable in the heat!), nice little house in a nice area, my job is fine and lets me wfh even if it is a bit boring. I have a few very good friends and nice plans coming up- DH and I are taking a trip to Manchester to see the Yayoi Kusama exhibit which I’m very excited about! Like a pp I’ve had a lot of trauma and I think that helps me appreciate the little things.

Money is tight but we get by, and I am a bit fat, so those are my downsides but I think overall I’m very lucky.
