Bit of a weird question!

So, I have the 10ft bestway pro max swimming pool being delivered tomorrow. Typically for me, it’s rain/thunderstorms for the next 3 days!! Could I build the pool and let the rainwater fill it? Then add chlorine before using it? Surely rainwater is cleaner than tap water, but it just feels odd!

Some rainwater isn’t going to hurt, I wouldn’t have thought but you might be surprised how much it will take to fill it.

We had a 1000 litre IBC put in our garden to store water for plants, it took a whole month of solid rain in March to fill it up.

I hope you aren’t living anywhere that has a hosepipe ban btw.

blacksax · 16/06/2023 16:07

Are we expecting a couple of feet of rain in the next few days then?

Route69 · 16/06/2023 16:08

Ha, we don’t have a hosepipe, or outside tap! Very often floods where I live though, so maybe I’ll get half the pool filled over 3 days

In the month of June the UK averages 12" of rain. So if you get twice the month of June rainfall in the next 3 days, you might get 2 feet of water to swim in but I doubt you'll be worrying about filling your swimming pool.

blacksax · 16/06/2023 16:11

I think you are underestimating just how much water it takes to fill a pool that size.

ReallyShouldBeDoingSomethingElse · 16/06/2023 16:12

Thought I was in an irreparable grump for the rest of today but apparently not - this is very funny.

OP, could you run a hose through your kitchen window to fill the pool?

Kitchen is other side of the house to the side we need to put it on as it’s all on a slope, the odds really are stacked against me here🙂

You haven't thought this through, have you?!😎🐟

How were you planning on filling it if it didn't rain - 500 trips with a watering can?

Route69 · 16/06/2023 16:32

I don’t even have a watering can haha!! But yes I was going to use the washing up bowl and give the kids jugs/buckets. Now I’m remembering a few summers ago how long it took to fill a small paddling pool, oh god…

TonTonMacoute · 16/06/2023 16:36

I assume you are not on a water meter!

If you leave it out all winter it might be full by next June…

I had one half that size and it took about 5 hours with the hose to fill...

blacksax · 16/06/2023 16:39

Speak to your next door neighbours. With luck one of them might not be on a water meter. You never know, they might even own a hosepipe...

Please keep us updated, this is joyous. 🙂

HarassedByASasquatch · 16/06/2023 16:42

I would say that tapwater is far cleaner than rain😁

Oh my god 😆 I've got the rectangular basic pool for my kids and it took over an hour with the hose to fill it almost to the wavy lines. I'd imagine it will take 3 days just using a washing up bowl, jugs and buckets 🤪 good luck op 👍🏻

Having actually properly read your OP, funnily enough, no - rainwater is not as clean as you'd think, it brings down all manner of microscopic particles within its droplets. Tap water already has a small quantity of chlorine in it.

LubaLuca · 16/06/2023 16:49

We have to leave the hose running overnight and part of the next day to fill a pool that size. You'd need to use something like 500 washing up bowls full to the brim to fill the pool.

Ah that was my original question, well what about a tiny bit of rain followed by 3 weeks worth of tap water?😆

I do like a challenge🤣

I think the rain is the least of your worries. Without an outside tap/hose it might just be ready for next summer Grin

spiderlight · 16/06/2023 16:57

This is bringing back memories of my partner and our friend trying to fill a birth pool when we ran out of hot water and the hose it came with didn't fit our tap anyway. They spent pretty much an entire day ferrying pans of boiling water from the kettle and cooker and still didn't get it anywhere near deep/warm enough for me to give birth in, and I suspect it was a lot smaller than your pool!

PriamFarrl · 16/06/2023 16:58

Had you honestly not thought about how you were going to fill it?

Amandasummers · 16/06/2023 17:00

You'll need a really long hose so you can run it through the house! I can't imagine ordering a pool that size without expecting to fill it with a hose lol

BillieShears · 16/06/2023 17:01

This is hilarious 😂

Route69 · 16/06/2023 17:01

No I think I’ve just realised why I’m the brunt of everyone else’s jokes, I do things like this quite a lot🤣 2021 summer it took me about 2 and a halfdays to blow up (by mouth) a paddling pool because the pump I brought didn’t fit!
