Bit of a weird question!

So, I have the 10ft bestway pro max swimming pool being delivered tomorrow. Typically for me, it’s rain/thunderstorms for the next 3 days!! Could I build the pool and let the rainwater fill it? Then add chlorine before using it? Surely rainwater is cleaner than tap water, but it just feels odd!

That's a four and a half thousand litre capacity paddling pool OP, and your average watering can holds about five litres. I think I love you.

Route69 · 16/06/2023 17:05

Well it’s started raining!! I’m gonna get a head start and stick some buckets outside🤣

Ummm... my friend had one of these and it took well over an hour to fill WITH A HOSEPIPE!

Yep!

Based in Seas164 calculations, it'll take about 900 trips from the kitchen to fill up the pool.

But thank you @Route69 , you've made me giggle after a shitty day. 😁

Well maybe it will be more like 892 after the rain water…

Could you phone and cancel the delivery??

KnickerlessParsons · 16/06/2023 17:15

Route69 · 16/06/2023 16:08

Ha, we don’t have a hosepipe, or outside tap! Very often floods where I live though, so maybe I’ll get half the pool filled over 3 days

How are you planning on filling the pool then? 🤔

I'm invested in this now

While the obvious solution is get a long hose you can run from the kitchen, through the house, to the pool, but im enjoying this a little to much

So, my suggestion is; round up all the neighbours and form a chain from kitchen to pool. Gather as many buckets and washing up bowls you can find.
Each person passes the bucket/bowl person to person, then get a small child to run the empty bucket/bowl back to the top of the line in the kitchen.
If you have loads of buckets/bowls on the go you'll full it up in no time.

Jitterybugs · 16/06/2023 17:20

How about asking the local fire service to call to do a free home safety check? When they came to do mine I was mortified when they actually came in a fire engine. Make them tea and something to eat. And ask them to leave their hose running into the pool while they’re eating 🤣 👨‍🚒 👨‍🚒

Somanysocks · 16/06/2023 17:24

Placemarking, lol

MargaretThursday · 16/06/2023 17:26

You need to divert all the drainpipes from your house into the pool. You'll get a bit more dirty water then.

KnickerlessParsons · 16/06/2023 17:34

Is there a stream anywhere near that you could divert for a while?

Ooh I like this idea! There’s already 8 of us in the house, between me and DH there’s quite of few family that live nearby aswell. Maybe I should go and buy about 50 water woggles with the holes in the middle and tape them all up and have everyone holding them from the kitchen tap to the pool!!

No but I am a 2 minute walk from the sea😏

Did you genuinely think you could fill a 10ft pool with a washing up bowl? Jesus Christ.

Robinonmybirdfeeder · 16/06/2023 17:39

@Route69 thank you, I needed this 😂😂😂

blacksax · 16/06/2023 17:43

Route69 · 16/06/2023 16:49

Ah that was my original question, well what about a tiny bit of rain followed by 3 weeks worth of tap water?😆

Okay, so here's the science bit. Rainwater brings algae spores down with it, which will start to grow in the water. Lightning does something technical to nitrogen, which will make the algae multiply like crazy and the water will go green quickly - sometimes overnight. In order to keep the water clear, you need chlorine in the water to kill off the algae and any germs in the water, which needs to be at the correct pH level (acidity/alkalinity) in order for the chlorine to work properly. Remember that litmus paper stuff they got us to play with at school? Swimming pool water test strips basically do the same thing, and will tell you the pH, and also the current level of chlorine in the water. You use that and the calculated volume of water in your pool to work out how much chlorine to put in. You will need to test the water daily.
Are you with me so far?

And if you think this is an over-reaction to a bit of green water, algae isn't great for human health, and you can't see the bottom of a cloudy pool. If the water isn't clear, you can't see anyone who has fallen in and sunk to the bottom.

JeminaPudd · 16/06/2023 17:45

Where do you live? You'll need a mumsnet army carrying buckets to help you fill it. And even then it'll take a few days Grin

YukoandHiro · 16/06/2023 17:09

A 10ft pool will take hours and hours with a hose pipe, not just one. It's massive.

Somanysocks · 16/06/2023 17:51

Fire brigade, they'll have big hose?

(Joke, people, joke).
