Jilly Cooper dog names

Excitingly we've been on the waiting list for a breeder and are off to look at her puppies at the weekend. They're bedlington x whippets and all quite dark grey/brown. We haven't decided if we'll go for a boy or a girl yet.

I've got a secret plan to pick one and start pushing a Jilly Cooper dog name - but feeling a bit uninspired by Gertrude and Badger. I know the hard core of Mumsnet Jilly Cooper fans won't let me down for Jilly-related name suggestions! If you were in Jilly land and naming a small skinny mongrel, what would you go for??

I seem to remember dogs either from her real life or books called Mabel, Barbara and Sevenoaks.

Maidstone was one of the dogs names in a book about when she lived in Putney.

Now you mention the Putney book I think that's where Sevenoaks comes from. He went missing on Christmas day and the Cooper's got a call to say that the the people who found him has given him a lovely Christmas dinner and he was asleep now, could they come and fetch him.

Also love the story about when Jilly forgot the dog lead and so took her bra off to use instead.

No idea about Jilly Cooper but v jealous about the whiplington- they are gorgeous

Need to see if we have an old A to Z knocking around but knowing us I'd land on Tooting or something you really don't want to be shouting in the local park!

Ethel and Maggie are sweet names. Actually thinking about it the cats always seem to get very intellectual composer/writer names and the dogs get a much more random selection from Jilly. Definitely more humanised too.

I loved Visitor in JC as the name of one of the labs…
