Nadine Dorries' constituents - they can't be happy with this?

Ever the egotist, Nadine Dorries is causing mischief by not formally resigning as an MP, despite claiming she would do so with immediate effect last Friday in support of Boris Johnson (and presumably in a childish strop over not being made a Lord). The Conservatives are unable to call a by-election until her resignation letter is received. In the meantime she gets to hang about in parliament saying all sorts of Trumpian nonsense and garnering media attention, and will presumably hope to be there to speak her "truth" when the privileges committee report into Johnson's conduct is published this week.

Why on earth don't her constituents kick up a fuss or kick her out?! She clearly gives zero fucks about them or about her duties as an MP, only about her own trajectory and being as --closely aligned with Boris Johnson's backside as possible

You'd think it wouldn't be allowed. Personally I think every lazy MP not working hard for their constituents should be ejected.

Boris and Dorries sounds like a variety act from1950s BBC Light Entertainment.

Worst case scenario is she doesn't resign and her local party constituency vote to deselect her at their next AGM, likely March/April next year.

ThreeFeetTall · 14/06/2023 15:19

Is she still doing casework?

TooBigForMyBoots · 14/06/2023 15:22

She likes seeing Sunak squirm.😈

Topseyt123 · 14/06/2023 15:26

She's a twat. She shouldn't have said she was resigning if she wasn't prepared to follow through.

Would she prefer that they deselect her instead? That is the other option, surely. Then she'll look as stupid as she actually is.

TooBigForMyBoots · 14/06/2023 15:31

She will resign. She was planning to stand down next election anyway. Doing it this way prolongs the pain for Sunak.

It also means she will be able to do many more hours on Talk TV, come next year's election.

Simianwalk · 14/06/2023 15:33

The ones that voted her in the first place must be a little bit short of thinking anyway. The rest must have resigned themselves to the shame of living near so many thick people they have lost the will.

beeonmybonnett · 14/06/2023 15:44

Her poor consistency.

who is even representing them in the interim? Is there a stand in until a permanent MP takes over? Or do they just not have an MP at all at the minute?

Piggywaspushed · 14/06/2023 15:44

I'm a constituent. She's a laughing stock. Whilst many here are Tories, she is widely unpopular. She also lives 150 miles away.

What do you want us to do ? I can't see how placards will help...

Oh dear, that was meant to say constituency.

We never have done. There's no lack to feel.

I'm a constituent too, and I certainly didn't vote for the insufferable woman. She's done absolutely sod all for her constituents all these years, and all she's managed is some self-promotion on the telly, put through some of her own pet motions through the Commons, employed her own family members as admin staff, and written some god-awful novels.

She needs to start realising that the reason she's been thwarted in her ambition of being elevated to the upper echelons of society is not because she's from a working class background, it is because she's fucking useless and a total liability.

Piggywaspushed · 14/06/2023 15:54

Absolutely. Still think the Tories will win here though...

Figment1982 · 14/06/2023 15:58

The only benefit I ever had to having her as an MP was it made general elections easier.. I didn't have to think long and hard about who to vote for, I would just put an X for whichever candidate might come second.

She's never gone to the trouble of actually doing the job of representing us in the first place, so we won't be missing anything.

Piggywaspushed · 14/06/2023 16:07

The mid Beds posse is here! I'm hearing conflicting advice on tactics. Both LD and Lab are suggested on different sites. I normally vote how I vote but am totally up for tactical voting this time. Any other mid Bedsers have an idea?

AnnPerkins · 14/06/2023 16:07

No I'm not fucking happy Angry She doesn't even pretend to give one shiny shit about her constituents.

She actually did help us with a local campaign some years ago. But we got fed up with her suggesting stunts like marching down the A421🙄

I'm not a Tory and I didn't vote for her but as one of her constituents I feel inclined to email the constituency association to voice my displeasure. I think the chair lives locally to me, he's going to have to avoid me out on dogwalks for the entire summer Grin

Clutterbugsmum · 14/06/2023 16:13

Another Mid Beds posses member here.

And the cynical me thinks she waiting for the press coverage of the incident in Nottingham to calm down and then she go through motions so she can be centre of attention again, which is where she likes to be rather actually doing her job.

I'm going to wait and see who canvasses hardest and vote for them. I don't care who it is, as long as they aren't wearing a blue rosette, I'll be happy.

We managed to scupper the Tory overall majority in the last local council elections, so maybe the tide is starting to turn...

I live in Bedford mayoral area... Tory unseated LD. Beds is bizarre.
