Need a soft drink with no sweetener

Any recommendations for a flat soft drink that doesn’t have sweetener?

I’m pregnant and very nauseous. Need a sugar hit in the morning before I can face any food. I’ve got capri suns which are okay but need more sugar really.

Fruit juice is too acidy.

Lemonade from M&S.

Spendonsend · 13/06/2023 19:13

Can ypu try ine of those cold herbal teas and stir in a sugar.

ThursdayFreedom · 13/06/2023 19:13

@Hazelnuttella I'd suggest changing you mindset. Try water, milk tea. Taking a lot of sugar like that because you feel you need the sugar is a worry re Gestational Diabetes. I'd get tested if I were you.

LizzieSiddal · 13/06/2023 19:14

Could you suck boiled sweets? That’s what I used to do and it really helped.

CatsOnTheChair · 13/06/2023 19:14

Rocks or Belvoir cordial

Dawston's Fizzy Rhubarb! It's delicious, and still sweetener free. Available in Asda, on offer at the moment, £3 for 4 cans. If you don't like Rhubarb it comes in other flavours - cherry, and apple I think.

PinkFootstool · 13/06/2023 19:17

Tesseire syrups - French sirops. Not the sugar free ones, but the normal syrups.

Not sure where you'd buy them other than Amazon these days as Waitrose stopped it. I have the lemon syrup on bulk order as a subscribe and save! 😂

Or Sparkling water with ice and various cordials/squash
(if you want fizzy, plain water if not)
There's a lot nicer cordials in supermarkets than there used to be. And you can put in as much as you want to get the sugar hit.

StellaAndCrow · 13/06/2023 19:20

Sorry, I've just realised you said flat. Ignore me :)

This stuff is lovely!! Also in ginger, elderflower and just apple, I think.

It's delicious that Ginger cordial that @Thisistheendof linked to. I also mix it with tonic water if I fancy a drink when others are having alcohol!

They also do a lovely blueberry and blackcurrant (I think it is) cordial too if you like them a bit sweeter

Hadalifeonce · 13/06/2023 19:54

Waitrose high juice squash do a non sweetener version.

SunnySomer · 13/06/2023 19:54

Somebody mentioned French sirop and wondered where to get it - try this site for a wide range of flavours https://www.frenchclick.co.uk/t-search.aspx?SearchTerm=Sirop+

BarbaraofSeville · 13/06/2023 20:11

Another vote for the Asda High Juice but make sure you get a bottle with a yellow band at the top of the label.

It comes in blackcurrant or apple and mango and these are the only two flavours without sweeteners.

saveforthat · 13/06/2023 20:14

I like Bottle Green elderflower cordial, in fact I'm addicted to the stuff. Their ginger one is delicious also.

Hazelnuttella · 13/06/2023 20:14

ooh some French syrups would be good, and I’ll peruse the fancy cordial section of the supermarket. Thank you so much everyone.

The fizzy rhubarb looks good too, maybe not first thing in the morning though. I’ve been looking for an evening G&T fancy drink substitute, so that might be a good one.

Cawston press drinks are lovely.

Appreciate your concern but you don’t need to worry. I’m not at risk of gestational diabetes from one sugary drink in the morning.

I generally I keep my nausea under control by eating carbs, which helps. But I’m thirsty in the morning so need a drink before I eat. And I can’t drink water when my stomach is so empty because it’s too sloshy. If you don’t know what I mean I suspect you haven’t had pregnancy nausea (or ever been hungover)!
