Should I go to gp with unexplained bruising (pics)

Excuse the not so nice photos. Been noticing them for a few weeks now. No injury or anything. They just appear. I’ve noticed I’m really tired too lately. I have recently had 6 b12 injections for low iron so I thought it’d be the opposite but since having them I’ve found to be more tired. I also have a few on each arm and 3 on my stomach

I think you should definitely go get them checked out

Stratocumulus · 11/06/2023 20:02

Spontaneous bruising.
Get it checked out.

Rainbowsandfairies · 11/06/2023 20:18

Of course you must go! Good luck xx

Yes. The bruising along with fatigue should be checked.

Over40Overdating · 11/06/2023 20:25

Fatigue and bruising with no apparent cause needs to be checked out.

As you’ve had the loading dose of b12, you shouldn’t be tired still. You will be due another blood test to check the levels- they will likely do a full blood count plus the b12, ferritin and folate which will show if the issues are blood related.
Ring your GP surgery and ask for that test asap.

Are you having any gum bleeding or heavier periods? Mouth ulcers?

AutieAdult · 11/06/2023 20:29

Yes please get this checked

FreeClee · 11/06/2023 20:34

Thanks everyone, I will phone them in the morning.
@Over40Overdating No none of that although I did have a random nose bleed the other morning🤷🏻‍♀️

How strange. My son has suddenly got a series of dot bruises on his chest and doesn't know how he got them either

Over40Overdating · 11/06/2023 20:54

@FreeClee glad you are going to get it checked out - you mentioned your iron was low as well as b12. Have you had any advice on that?

I have all of these what does it mean?

1kis · 11/06/2023 21:00

Usually a sign of anaemia or another blood disorder but if you've been drinking it's not unusual to sober up to new bruises as minor bumps dont register.

MAREMCKENNA · 11/06/2023 21:01

potsandpots79 · 11/06/2023 20:58

Most likely that you have gum disease (very common), your periods are heavy for an unrelated reason, and your bruises are just normal bruising (some people naturally bruise like a peavh!). However, you should still get it checked out if you've noticed a change. Most of the time it's nothing to worry about but always worth a check up.

Over40Overdating · 11/06/2023 21:39

@potsandpots79 as a PP has said, likely just unrelated issues but if they are new / recent it’s worth getting them checked out. If you haven’t had a b12 check recently you may, like the OP, be b12 deficient so worth having the check up for that alone, as many people are deficient because the levels for ‘normal’ vary for many people.

hellsbells99 · 11/06/2023 21:40

DD’s legs were covered in bruises a while ago. Blood test showed she was anaemic with a very low ferritin level. You do need to go and see your GP and ask for repeat blood tests.
DD still bruises easy and often has to put blobs of concealer on her legs on a night out but she isn’t constantly covered in bruises now.

TimeToRecover · 11/06/2023 21:42

Bruised for no reason can be very serious! Go to your GP, asap

Sadless · 11/06/2023 21:43

My daughters just been referred over to hospital with bruises. She had the normal bloods done and they couldn't see anything in them. It's definitely something not to ignore.

B12 injections treat B12 deficiency. If you also have low iron, that should be supplemented too.

See the GP, but maybe try folate as well as iron in the meantime?

Gloschick · 11/06/2023 22:25

Stomach bruising more worrying as legs more exposed to bruising so worth getting checked out and getting repeat bloods. Are you on sertraline or similar antidepressant? They can cause bruising. Re comment up thread, it will take a few weeks for you to notice an improvement with B12 injections, so I wouldn't worry if you are still getting symptoms from that.

FreeClee · 12/06/2023 09:31

I phoned the GP and have an appointment in 2 weeks

OP posts:
Zarataralara · 12/06/2023 09:39

Take photos to your appointment (2 weeks wait, good grief) and take photos daily to see if more appear or they fade.
As pp said, B12 injections treat low B12, they won’t affect iron. You need a high level of Folic acid for the B12 to work. Low iron needs separate treatment.

FreeClee · 12/06/2023 09:41

I thought the injections were for b12 and iron, my bad🙈 I have woke up this morning with a big one on my elbow that wasn’t there last night

OP posts:
GrazingSheep · 12/06/2023 10:44

I’d nearly go to A&E if I were you.

Coffeeandcrocs · 12/06/2023 10:57

I'm just as you describe! But also have horribly heavy periods.

I have low platelets

MIBnightmare · 12/06/2023 11:31

I had exactly this at 30. Preceded by the nose bleeds. Turned out to be Thrombocytopenia (autoimmune) www.itpsupport.org.uk/index.php/en/

They removed my spleen 30 years ago which cured me but left an immune deficiency that lands me in hospital once or twice a year with mildish infections. Nothing major.

xogossipgirlxo · 12/06/2023 16:51

Might be sign of iron deficiency, at least it was for me. Good luck with your appointment, hopefully they will refer you to blood test quickly.
