Best pasta shape?

A man stopped me in the supermarket to ask what was the best pasta shape. (He said he hated pasta from taste testing it for years but was cooking for someone else)

I said Spirali, my oldest says penne.

If you had to choose one shape, which is your go-to?

I like the shells best.

loverrr · 11/06/2023 16:57

I like spaghetti

listlovers · 11/06/2023 16:58

Totally depends on the sauce.

Fusilli is the one we use day to day. It’s a good all rounder.

For my favourite pasta dish though it has to be rigatoni as the tubes hold the sauce and yummy bits of leek and bacon in a way that other shapes don’t.

Dumbphone · 11/06/2023 17:02

Penne with sauce so it gets inside, yum

hellobanana · 11/06/2023 17:05

Fusilli or any spiral

Skidamarinkadinkadink · 11/06/2023 17:05

Farfalle

ThePersistenceOfMammories · 11/06/2023 17:05

Shells or spaghetti.

worst is bows

TeenagersAngst · 11/06/2023 17:05

Spirali!

crumpet · 11/06/2023 17:05

Depends on the sauce

Livinginaclock · 11/06/2023 17:06

Tagliatelle

grunttheterrible · 11/06/2023 17:07

Orecchiette, but it's not usually readily available- love it tho! From the commonly available I'd struggle to choose between conchiglie and lasagne

thisthenthat · 11/06/2023 17:07

Rigatoni. Sauce doesn't matter. Everything is better with rigatoni.

TheMoistMaker · 11/06/2023 17:07

Rigatoni

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 11/06/2023 17:07

Fusilli bucati is a good all-rounder I think.

TwirlWatcher · 11/06/2023 17:08

Depends on the sauce, but penne or farfalle generally. Fusilli is probably my least favourite! Although I do like the fresh version. Love fresh tagliatelle. Farfalle is good because you always have a more al dents bit in the middle. I find fusilli often tastes overcooked.

Puzzledanddissatisfied · 11/06/2023 17:08

Farfalle. Love when the sauce gets stuck in the middle of the bow tie.

TwirlWatcher · 11/06/2023 17:09

Actually, I also love love orichiette but very hard to find now. Tesco used to do it but no longer.

Oldermum84 · 11/06/2023 17:10

Spiralli.

PastaPup · 11/06/2023 17:10

Rigatoni! Love it so much I named my dog after it :)
My Italian partner prefers fusilli or cavatappi

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/06/2023 17:11

I can't stand farfalle, spirali or anything where the difference in thickness of the pasta affects the bite.

In every other case, it depends on the sauce.

PuffinsRocks · 11/06/2023 17:11

Bows!
If bows sold out, shells.

Alloveragain3 · 11/06/2023 17:12

I agree bows are the worst.

I like the spirals for tomato sauce and spaghetti or tagliatelle for a cheesy sauce

PuffinsRocks · 11/06/2023 17:12

Sorry, farfalle, if farfalle sold out, conchiglie.
