Where to buy prom suit for ds age 16?

Just that really, where’s a good place to start looking for a suit for ds for his prom? He’s around 5’10”, but still growing rapidly, so am reluctant to go too expensive as it’s likely he won’t wear it again. He’s keen to get a navy 3 piece. No clue where to start looking online. Got limited shops locally, so we might go further afield, but if we could do it online it would be easier. TIA.

Matalan are good for suits, Ds1s prom suit was from there and DH got a really nice one for a wedding.

We're trying Next on the recommendation of a friend with twin boys.

LadyWhineglass · 11/06/2023 00:00

H&M.

greenspaces4peace · 11/06/2023 00:00

rental not worth buying most boys continue to grow past 20.

RainBow725 · 11/06/2023 00:41

Definitely try Next - they are mostly washable too!

Boohoo, ASOS or Vinted

mrsfollowill · 11/06/2023 01:32

Primark do suits too- not sure on quality but had them recommended - my own DS got his from Next- loads of choice for a very reasonable price.

slithytoveisascientist · 11/06/2023 01:45

I'd consider renting it'll be about £80

I wouldn’t consider paying that for a rental-I bought dh a suit fron Next just last week for £95

We bought this one for my son https://www.opposuits.co.uk/fancy-fish.html

I got ds a blue 3 piece on Vinted, it's a Red Herring one that had been worn once for a wedding. I paid about £10 for it and then £20 to have it dry cleaned and it's perfect. Also got him a worn once Thomas Pink shirt from there. My ds is a similar height to yours and also still growing so wasn't worth buying new

mastertomsmum · 11/06/2023 08:58

We got Next, it’s fitted for 18 months and I think the jacket will continue to fit. However, the DS is getting taller so might need a new pair the trousers

Hellocatshome · 11/06/2023 09:01

We have hired a lovely blue 3 piece from Moss Bros they have an outlet near us. Comes with everything we just need to provide the shoes. Final fitting and alterations when we pick it up 3 days before the event and have 2 days after to take it back. Was a god send for us as DS has rediculously long legs and arms so most off the shelf suits didnt work.

gogohmm · 11/06/2023 09:03

Look secondhand, also asda have full dinner suits online, perhaps other supermarkets too (it's £40 at Asda for a full suit!)

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 11/06/2023 09:03

ASDA do cheap suits.

pornyshroudofturin · 11/06/2023 09:04

Suits Direct- loads of choice, v good price, good quality and can go in washing machine

TidyHomeTidyMind · 11/06/2023 09:06

We got ours from Next, we needed the longer length though as ds is very tall.
Perhaps have a look around Next or Matalan and try some on so you're sure of sizing and have a look on Vinted?

Thank you all! We ended up getting one from M&S, fitted perfect, just need to find some shoes now to go with it. 🤦🏻‍♀️😍

On this topic - Clarks thought son was a different shoe size from all other shoe shops but the shoes produced were uncomfortable. We also saw 3 different assistants within a few minutes as they kept passing us on. Ended up at Ecco - lovely shoes, comfy take on a smart shoe. Also Clarks wanted us to have brown shoes for a navy suit so dark it was practically black.

caringcarer · 20/06/2023 20:51

DH took our DS to Matalan, Next and M&S and he chose the most expensive one at M&S. Then he picked a silk tie to go with it. DH came back and said we'd taught him how to pick quality. I was like he'll wear it once or twice. He's 17 now and at least it still fits though.

seanbeanmarryme · 20/06/2023 21:27

Got our son's prom suit from Slaters and would really recommend if you have one you can get to. Alterations were included and there were lots to choose from.

SheilaWilde · 20/06/2023 23:00

I took DS to our nearest town and we went round the charity shops. We got a tuxedo, braces, shirt and tie for £20. He's wearing his tatty black converse with it.
