Would you let your 10 year old do this?

Me and dp can't agree.

Dc 10 has been invited to a new classmate's birthday party along with the rest of the class. The party is at their house. I have never met the parents and only ever seen the child once, never spoken to them. As there will be so many children (hopefully) going, they have requested that parents do not stay.

Would you let your dc go?

If I had contact details for the parents and knew they would be there, then yes.

Jackiebrambles · 10/06/2023 20:32

As above if I had the number of the parent and the address of where the party is, then yes.

bloodywhitecat · 10/06/2023 20:33

I wouldn't have given it a second thought when my kids were that age, I would've been OK with it.

Yes I would let them go. I would not expect to be going along to kids parties from about 6 onwards (earlier if friendly with the parents).
In my experience it was a relief once parents stopped hanging around at my kid’s parties

LaMaG · 10/06/2023 20:34

Yes if its a class thing. Wouldn't think twice about it

MistyFrequencies · 10/06/2023 20:34

Yes. Ive actually left my 5 year old in similar circumstances.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 10/06/2023 20:34

Of course, as long as I had contact details for the parents.

Lamelie · 10/06/2023 20:34

Of course. It was the norm from age 5/6 when mine were that age.

whiteroseredrose · 10/06/2023 20:34

At 10, definitely

Tarantella6 · 10/06/2023 20:36

Yes. When I dropped off dc, if they open the door with a giant dog straining at a leash, or it turns out the entire house is decorated like a BDSM brothel I would probably say oh dc is a bit nervous do you mind if I stay just for 15 minutes.

MrsLiam · 10/06/2023 20:36

Yes, without qualms. But would make sure party parents had my number in case of a problem or accident.

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 10/06/2023 20:36

10? yes, definitely. You can drop your dc of and pick up, even you aren't able to stay. I see no problem.

Soubriquet · 10/06/2023 20:37

Yes.

fireflyloo · 10/06/2023 20:37

Yes definitely.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 10/06/2023 20:37

Yes. It's normal. You'll be picking up and dropping off, won't you? So you'll see if they live in a shack in the woods or have a couple of wolves for pets.

Boomboom22 · 10/06/2023 20:37

Yes for a whole class party for 2 3 hours. No if I don't know them at all for a sleepover. Although of there were 6 at the sleepover then yes.

SnapPop · 10/06/2023 20:37

Yes

DontBePassiveAggresive · 10/06/2023 20:38

Yes

Bibbetybobbity · 10/06/2023 20:38

Yes- no question.

Quartz2208 · 10/06/2023 20:40

Yes and have done

Stressfordays · 10/06/2023 20:40

Yes, of course I would. My eldest is 10, he's going to secondary school in September and catching a bus by himself so why wouldn't I leave him at a party?

Jackiebrambles · 10/06/2023 20:41

I would question their sanity of having a whole class party of 10 year olds, however 😂

PenelopeTheShroudWeaver · 10/06/2023 20:42

Yes, I would just make sure to exchange contact details with the parents

mrscheema · 10/06/2023 20:51

Of course! From age around 6 onwards it's not the norm for parents to stay.
I wouldn't even give it a second thought.
I've left my child in this way since 5.
The invite always includes a number and the address.

I have a no sleepover rule even with family or close friends.
