Dh was planning this as a surprise for my birthday but told me today before he booked anything just to check I would be OK with it. He was going to book me two nights away to a place I have already been (and adored but we only did a day trip at the time) it's a flight, bus and train journey then a full day exploring by myself staying in a lovely little pub....all by myself....see I am always banging on about having a night away, just me and a good book somewhere nice!! And now he is suggesting it I'm actually a bit afraid. The place itself is heavenly for fans of literature, so I would be well occupied and love it. What would you do, would you do it😬

I'd do it and the journey would be part of the adventure.

Your dh sounds like a good 'un.

Wow how lucky op! You must go and enjoy yourself and relax…but if there is any reason you can’t go, can I take your place?! 😂 😀

tigerbear · 10/06/2023 20:52

Yes, why on earth not?!
A few years ago, I did a 9 day solo trip to Thailand, downloaded loads of books to my Kindle, ate what I wanted, did what I wanted. It was amazing!

Currently run ragged with two small children.. this is the stuff of dreams

I mentioned up thread that I’ve recently returned from a five day solo trip. It really was an amazing experience not to think about the needs and wants of another human being. I ate what I want, went for a walk, slept and generally did what whatever I wanted. I took lots of magazines as I enjoyed reading short articles while sitting in the bar semi people watching.
I went to an all inclusive resort and the buffet worked really well for me.
I booked myself 2 hour spa trayenents most day and did a big excursion as well as pottered about.
My sleep was amazing , I was regularly clocking up 10 hours in the massive bed I had all to myself.
Honestly I’d recommend a solo trip to anyone.

HelterSkelter224 · 10/06/2023 20:57

If you don't go can I take your place???

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 10/06/2023 20:59

I go away on my own regularly. It’s sheer bliss. Do it!

BarelyLiterate · 10/06/2023 21:10

1000% Yes. Of course I would. (My DP has a v time-consuming hobby, so I go away by myself several times a year) This trip sounds lovely, and your DH sounds thoughtful. Why on earth would you not want to go?

SideWonder · 10/06/2023 21:11

Of course!

Doyouthinktheyknow · 10/06/2023 21:16

Oh yes, absolutely. It’s a lovely thing to do.

I did it last year when DH wasn’t well enough to come on a planned trip. I loved it so much more than I thought I would, it was pure bliss and I’d love to do it again but dh would feel he was missing out and I do enjoy his company.

Bumble84 · 10/06/2023 21:17

Yes, I think I might cry happy tears of my DH surprised me with this kind of thing.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 10/06/2023 21:19

This is the dream. Your DH chose a fabulous gift.

3kidsaremorethanenough · 10/06/2023 21:21

What am I even thinking,....of course you are all right....I am going to do it....his face fell when I said I didn't think I wanted to, he said he thought it was my total fantasy (and it is!!) He is a good un I have to say, always very thoughtful. It would be looking a gift horse in the mouth wouldn't it....yeah I think its the thought of the bus and train but if I have it well enough researched and things booked I should be fine. It will do my confidence in my own capabilities the world of good. And the thought of all that time I can spend wallowing in the museums and of books etc is making me drool at the mouth 🤤🤤I will do it....if not for me then for you mumsnetters...you are a great bunch for your inspirational posts 😊

I would kill for this.

CatfoodOzymandias · 10/06/2023 21:23

Why on earth not? I go away for a week on my own sometimes.

Tereseta · 10/06/2023 21:26

I understand your wobble, I did the same with my dh when he gifted me an experience I always wanted to do. Make sure you go and give dh a big thank you, you have a good one there!

MichelleScarn · 10/06/2023 21:28

I'm going if you don't want to!

Throwncrumbs · 10/06/2023 21:31

Do it, I just spent 5 nights in Spain by myself, it was bliss!

BIWI · 10/06/2023 21:34

Definitely go for it! The only thing I'd ask is if there isn't a more straightforward way to get there?

JandalsAlways · 10/06/2023 21:35

Wow your DH is amazing, do it!
