The satisfaction of doing stuff you've been putting off

I'm so happy I had to share!

I've been avoiding defrosting the freezer for months, this morning I couldn't open it due to the ice build up.

I'm a master at not doing things I should, procrastination is my middle name

I've just finished defrosting it and it's all lovely and ice free now.

Let me know your similar stories of completed tasks, or if you are still avoiding something then feel free to confess here!

I still have to find a fancy dress outfit for something very soon that I have known about for 3 months 😱

I started my seasonal clothes switch over well over a month ago! I have had piles of clothes on the bedroom floor for weeks because I hate it & I know I need to throw stuff out but I don't want to!

I have sorted it today! Yah!

FionnulaTheCooler · 10/06/2023 16:03

DH has taken DD to the cinema so I've spent the afternoon cleaning out the fridge and the oven, both overdue for a good scrub and looking so much better now.

BlowDryRat · 10/06/2023 16:05

I have to defrost my freezer but it's full. I had to do an emergency scrape with a spatula the other day because the drawer was stopping me closing the door.

I did however vacuum pack all our winter clothes and put them.in the loft last weekend and today I trimmed the bushes in the front garden, so that feels good.

ILoveToads · 10/06/2023 16:08

Oh no the seasonal switch over, well done!

I'm avoiding this as as I know I'll be looking at all the winter clothes I never wear but always think 'next year I'll fit into this' Grin

My oven also needs cleaning, I think I might schedule that for next week, or maybe the week after never!

I've been avoiding sorting out our conservatory ( dumping ground for all the crap in my house). A baby bird got in it yesterday and ran behind the tumble dryer, then the big pantry unit. In the end we had to empty everything into the garden to pull out the pantry to get him out.

From there everything was sorted so now I have a lovely clear conservatory. The bird got out and we later saw him reunited with mum so happy ending all around

BlowDryRat · 10/06/2023 16:10

I have separate vacuum bags for "will slim into" Blush I am pretty ruthless with sort-outs though and only keep things I actually want to wear again.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 10/06/2023 16:13

I cleaned my fridge, which has needed doing for 'awhile' but only because I've got someone coming to stay 😆It looks lovely

ILoveToads · 10/06/2023 16:15

@Coffeaddict Ah, that's lovely, a saved bird and a clean conservatory, double win!

This is a good idea. I feel like if I see the clothes I can't fit into it will inspire me, but really I think it depresses me and I'll go and eat a mars bar to cheer me up!

So a while -few years ago- we had a major leak in the shower room. Think all the tiles came off as the wooden boxing had got saturated and the wall behind was black mold

Well we did get new taps and OH did a good job of replacing the boxing, he just was too keen on replacing the skirting board as he's not too brilliant and at mitres, this has also meant we've not replaced the lino. The cat had taken chunks out of the old piece as it was stored under the bed.

I had the idea of not using traditional skirting but some cut to size MDF, the square edges meant no mitre-ing.

Well that was the idea and I bought the wood but OH has put it off as he 'wants to do it properly, IE not nail the battens into the floor . Waiting quite a while

So today I've cut the skirting strips and supporting battens to size and will present it as a fair accompli. He will have to do some work as I'm not as dextrous as I used to be, but I'm looking forward to the thought of getting lino again

Oblomov23 · 10/06/2023 16:58

I cleaned out old toiletries and old makeup and threw out a whole bin liner of stuff.

ILoveToads · 10/06/2023 17:01

@Oldraver

That will be really satisfying when finished, leaks are the worst, so much damage.

I can see the front garden again!

Paid some men to chainsaw down the massively and embarrassingly overgrown hedge and tree. I've been able to weed the beds along the edges and later on will be going to a DIY/superstore/somewhere to get some weed membrane and stones to cover them and neaten everything up.

IglesiasPiggl · 10/06/2023 17:17

Last month I cleared out the eaves storage, having been meaning to do it for about three years! It didn't take nearly as long as I had expected and we have so much more storage space now. Go me! 😁

I put my Christmas decorations and tree away in the loft in April this year. I didn't even put them up last year so they be been hanging round the house since Jan 2022. I am not a bit ashamed.

Yes we've had lots of leaks including one last year where water was coming through the ceiling and we never found where it came from despite pulling up floorboards and ripping out carpets. Have only just put the lino back for that room last week . The damage always seems to outway the piddly leak

I've still got some fairy lights around the bookcase from Christmas, I tell myself I'm leaving them their to switch on and look pretty throughout the year. In reality I just can't be bothered to unwind them and then put them up again next year 🤷‍♀️

Power washed the drive. It's lovely and clean now. Put up the garden umbrella

Lookitaahhh · 10/06/2023 21:08

Cut the hedge-have spent weeks feeling that the neighbours must be cursing me but finally done it this evening-go me!!!!

BrandyandGinger · 10/06/2023 21:37

I had an hour to kill this evening before collecting a DC so I cleaned the oven. I'd been putting it off for ages. The front of the cooker was very grotty but I got a good shine on it and I'll be delighted with myself when I see it in good light tomorrow.

Bibbetybobbity · 10/06/2023 22:16

I emptied the washing machine filter. And it was hard to get to behind the kick board. Go me! 🤣

TheOrigRights · 10/06/2023 22:44

I work for a company in Hong Kong. I have to fill out a tax return every year. It sits in its faux soothing green envelope for weeks.
I HAVE SENT IT OFF. Jess in the Post Office shared my joy, I know it!
Next year I won't leave it so long I will

Having someone to stay was a better motivator for you it seems. I was going to fix the bedroom door handle before my sister came to stay. Then I decided as she is my sister she didn't matter THAT much so I didn't!

ProfYaffle · 10/06/2023 22:48

The screws holding the banister to the wall came loose months and months ago. Dh fixed them today, took about 15 minutes, neither of us can believe it took so long to sort out.
