It made my day when I heard Boris was standing down. My first thought was 'Is he lying?'

katia2 · 10/06/2023 18:16

Never in the long history of British politics has one man done so much damage to so many. Let's hope he's gone for good and that we never see his like again.

Missingpop · 10/06/2023 18:42

I wish he’d just piss off to Australian jungle he’s a complete cockwomble he has lied & lied totally untrustworthy couldn’t stick to the covid rules yet we all did even the Queen did but no good old Boris thinks he’s better than everyone else; now he’s moved to the Oxfordshire countryside he’s bound to screw that up too with his lies too total knob

Beth Rigby tweets:

Spoken to a key Johnson backer who tells me it’s likely there will be more resignations > dripping them out to cause maximum damage to No 10. And those who know him tell me ”never write him off”, his resignation letter a declaration of war in this defeat.

It would be a serious libel to suggest that this is being done in concert with a cabal of bookmakers around the odd on "who's next", but I believe I just have.

Speaking of Who's Next ... seems appropriate as that's what the Tories are doing to us - and the most vulnerable - every moment they are in power.

What a vile comment.

All seem to be self serving from all parties and a total disconnect from the issues concerning the public. If we get a coalition government nothing will ever get sorted and it’s bad enough as it is!

verdantverdure · 10/06/2023 20:11

It's fitting in the end that Boris Johnson chose to Leave because he is afraid of parliamentary sovereignty and the will of the people in Uxbridge.

And lied about it.

It is. The leaving of Parliament really becomes him.

katia2 · 10/06/2023 20:18

And the same goes for Nadine Dorries. Worst Culture Secretary ever in my opinion. She clearly colluded with BJ in making her announcement, having said earlier yesterday that she had no intention of resigning to force a by-election. It seems clear to me that, led by BJ, a group of Tories is intent on bringing down the government. Though I'll cheer when that happens, it's very disloyal and self-serving behaviour.

Oh, the old 'they're all as bad as each other' trope. Yawn.

No, they're really not. The Tories have sunk to depths of bad not seen in any administration in the developed world.

Dymaxion · 10/06/2023 20:39

Can he though? Wouldn't the suspension kick in as soon as he is elected?

More importantly, how long would it be before anyone noticed him being suspended, given his previous indolent efforts as an MP ?

Even if that were true, it takes time to become as corrupt as this lot. Hence the famous observation that governments and nappies both need changing for the same reason.

TL;DR is that there's no way Labour could even begin to dream of starting off as venal and nakedly self serving as this lot.

I agree that they're dreadful; but 'not seen in the developed world'?- two words; Donald Trump.

Remarkable parallels between Trump and Johnson in the last 24 hours.. refusing to take responsibility for their actions when being held accountable, lashing out and blaming others for being cheats, crooked, corrupt etc.

Good riddance to a compulsive liar and chancer that set this country on a course to disaster with his stupid pronouncements on Brexit. Then messed it up, then messed up COVID.

What an idiot!

Bit harsh on idiots to compare them to Johnson.

pointythings · 10/06/2023 21:39

@ToWhitToWhoo Donald Trump is one man with a following of utter cowards and self serving losers who will drop him as soon as he looks like not getting them what they want.

The current crop of Tories on the other hand have all drunk the Brexit Kool-Aid, indulged in corruption, applauded the breaking of international law, sluiced taxpayer money to their rich bezzie mates and engaged in lobbying. And the number of them who would aspire to 'lead' the country is staggering. There's so many of them in this government.

Having said that the US is scarier than the UK right now because religious conservatism. But the difference isn't as great as I would like it to be.

They stay on until the by-election. Although whether anyone would notice any decrease in the work they do as an MP compared to the past 6 months if they did nothing, is perhaps not really open to question.

Except all 3 have resigned with immediate effect, haven't they? So they won't stay until the by-election, I don't think.

They say they have, but is it actually a thing, and why would anyone believe them?
Boris resigned as Prime Minister and yet was still there months later....

EXCLUSIVE in the Sunday Telegraph
MPs on Commons privileges committee consider sanctions against Boris Johnson's supporters behind 'kangaroo court' attacks on 'partygate' inquiry.
Johnson allies say it is a 'McCarthyite purge'.

Members of the committee believe the remarks of some critical MPs amount to contempt of Parliament and want action.
Possible sanctions range from an addendum to its partygate report criticising the MPs to a censure motion and divisive vote in the Commons.

The move would risk more Tory MP resignations, with supporters of Mr Johnson pledging an all-out revolt if Conservative whips fail to block such a scheme.
One Government source said: “This is an attempt to purge Johnson supporters from the party. It is McCarthyism.”

This could, for example, see Jacob Rees-Mogg, a senior ally of Mr Johnson, called in by the committee. There are already rumours he could be the fourth Johnson-supporting MP to quit, with his majority adversely affected in a boundary shake-up."

verdantverdure · 10/06/2023 22:25

It's always all about the Tory Party isn't these days?

Never about the country.

Sick of it.

Pity it is not to a prison cell. The only argument I can put forward as to why he should not hang is my lifelong opposition to the death penalty. He is a mass killer in all but name, caused more harm than Harold Shipman.

👏👏👏 absolutely this!!
