Thread 8 - TalkLair: “Brewing Russell's teapot”

Continuation of previous threads (thread 7).

The new lair of JTT escapees is all cosy and homey; we have truly settled here. Outside, the garden is blooming with spring flowers. Inside, the hearth is glowing, pictures are up on the walls, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

That sounds like a scary start to the day @Tricyrtis2022 !

artant · 18/07/2023 17:39

On the unexpected pregnancy thing, a former student of mine found herself eight months pregnant without having suspected a thing. I can’t remember how she found out (I think seeing a doctor but definitely not suspecting she was pregnant). She’d been on holiday the week before she found out and said in photos wearing a bikini she looked slimmer than ever before. But once she knew, she went from flat belly to eight months pregnant belly overnight and at one point was just watching it happen. The doctors described it as a concealed pregnancy meaning her body had hidden the pregnancy from her. She was a first year student at the time but with lots of support from her family carried on a finished her degree juggling motherhood and studying.

Tricyrtis2022 · 18/07/2023 17:46

Never heard of a concealed pregnancy before, how fascinating. It never ceases to astound me, the things our bodies can do.

MavisMcMinty · 18/07/2023 17:50

But once she knew, she went from flat belly to eight months pregnant belly overnight

Exactly like the nurse I knew! It was amazing, people think I must be exaggerating but she went overnight from being tiny-waisted to being a very pregnant woman.

weaseleyes · 18/07/2023 21:00

I think loads of physical sensations are shaped by our interpretation of them. So when I was pregnant and quite anxious about it, every feeling I had I linked to the pregnancy. Does that twinge mean a kick? Imminent labour? Some horrible disaster about to happen? But I think if I hadn't known I was pregnant, a lot of the feelings could be explained away as wind, something I ate, being overweight. It's a bit like feeling a bit unsteady is horrible if you don't have a reason for it, but can be part of the fun if you've been drinking to get drunk.

Kucinghitam · 19/07/2023 01:56

Fascinating pregnancy stories! I concur with @weaseleyes - having been pregnant with twins, obviously I know very very well what kicks feel like. But in the years since then, I've occasionally experienced those fluttery sensations that feel remarkably similar to early kicks and it's a bit disconcerting because I know they aren't kicks, they're gas in a bit of rumbling gut!

Well at least we now know about the kicking or the absence of it. Bloody placentas getting in the way!

MouseMinge · 19/07/2023 03:39

Anyway! The talk started quite poorly but improved as I went along. The big reveal towards the end was a huge hit. I was wearing combat trousers and a zipped up hoodie. I took the hoodie off to reveal a modern version of a Victorian corset. I was the first talk and I was really grateful for that because I was very hot in the hoodie. Oh, and like all sensible Victorian ladies I had a garment under the corset. In my case a vest, so it wasn't a sexy reveal! The Q&A was the best part.

The date was nice. He has some peculiarities but was gentle and funny and I enjoyed myself. He was keen to meet up post talk if it wasn't too late but I was knackered so that was a no from me. He lives in Dover and visits here a lot to see his sons so we're going to meet up next time he's here. He's very handsome, basically a cross between Jimi Hendrix and Lenny Kravitz! I have photos but it would be beyond crass to share them so you'll have to make do with the fairly accurate description.

Britinme · 19/07/2023 04:31

Thumbs up on both corset and date, @MouseMinge .

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 19/07/2023 08:13

That sounds excellent all round, Mouse.

Tricyrtis2022 · 19/07/2023 09:06

Got my dentist appointment this morning and am getting waves of adrenaline rushing through me. If there's anyone about at 11.30, please send good vibes!

MouseMinge · 19/07/2023 10:17

Sending them early, @Tricyrtis2022 !

lucicle · 19/07/2023 11:01

That sounds great, Mouse!

Very best of luck, Trycirtis. Sending soothing vibes!

DeanElderberry · 19/07/2023 11:22

vibing toothy vibes

artant · 19/07/2023 12:48

I’m too late with the good tooth vibes unfortunately but hope it went well @Tricyrtis2022

And that sounds like great news on both the talk and the date @MouseMinge

MavisMcMinty · 19/07/2023 12:50

Too late here too, but sending goodest vibes for the numbness and dribbling to stop. xx

Tricyrtis2022 · 19/07/2023 13:29

Well, that was one of absolute worst ordeals of my life. The tooth didn't want to come out and the dentist spent about an hour and a half rocking, wrenching and pulling. Eventually she had to cut the tooth into sections and rock, wrench and pull those. I needed four lots of anaesthetic. And there is still some root in my gum. Got to go back for a check up next Friday.

Fucking hell...

MavisMcMinty · 19/07/2023 13:31

Oh Tric! How horrible. I’m sure you’ll feel a lot better soon though. xxx

Tricyrtis2022 · 19/07/2023 13:48

Thanks, Mavis, I hope so. Right now I'm feeling pretty shaky.

Glad your talk and the date went well, by the way!

Britinme · 19/07/2023 13:54

Oh dear Tric that sounds awful! So sorry to hear it and mega sympathies.

MavisMcMinty · 19/07/2023 13:58

Whenever I’ve had toothache I’ve wondered how our ancient ancestors used to cope without dentists, and whether it’s possible to actually DIE from the unrelenting nerve pain. I’ve always described my sciatica as “like toothache of the whole leg” and in its flare-ups have seriously wished for death to escape the pain.

DeanElderberry · 19/07/2023 14:06

I'm so sorry Tricy, that is beyond grim.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 19/07/2023 14:10

Blooming heck Tric that sounds awful. I had been thinking of getting a wisdom tooth removed as the dentist tells me it is a food trap and I don't use it, but I think I'll just floss instead. How are you feeling now?

And sympathies Mavis, and 👍 to Mouse (hopefully that's come out asa thumbs up).

Re the other place, I've just been and had a quick look in view of recent posts here, having not been back for months. It's not changed much in terms of which men post, and what they blether on about, has it? I bet they miss the greater number of women to talk down to, and well done to the few women that remain and still tussle with them. Strange that they are thinking of expanding the number of threads.

Tricyrtis2022 · 19/07/2023 14:21

I've read that people did die from tooth infections, as it would spread beyond the tooth. You can well imagine, though, that people died from the pain. Trigeminal neuralgia, inflammation of a nerve in the jaw, is also known as the 'suicide disease'. I had it once and did seriously consider ending my life but thankfully got treatment and it got better.

The anaesthetic is starting to wear off and I'm feeling extremely bruised and somewhat gouged. Also tired. It went on so long I started praying 'Please, please, make this stop, just get it out'. Can't have been very nice for the dentist, either.
