Venus is absolutely beautiful right now.

Damn my window faces east.

Lochjeda · 04/06/2023 23:14

Is it just like a big star? I've just been out and I can't even see the moon but can see what looks like one star.

dodobookends · 04/06/2023 23:14

It does, doesn't it? We've been admiring it for a few weeks now.

comfyoldcardi · 04/06/2023 23:19

It is the first time I have had to actually look at the night sky for days! It is so bright!

longtompot · 04/06/2023 23:22

It is beautiful isn't it.

Pixiedust1234 · 04/06/2023 23:24

I can see only one big, very bright star so assume that is Venus.

No moon, no other stars (or planets) or aeroplanes flying. Just Venus ❤ Thanks OP!

Fifthtimelucky · 04/06/2023 23:26

Lovely. Thanks.

I've been doing a lot of sky-watching this evening as I was out earlier taking photos of the sun setting over the sea.

I obviously came in too early!

comfyoldcardi · 04/06/2023 23:29

It is just lovely to see something so beautiful. Quite uplifting I think.

Saisong · 04/06/2023 23:30

It's so bright because it's at its greatest elongation I.e. the furthest position we can see it from the sun. At this stage, apart from the moon, it is the brightest object we can see in the night sky.

It's a (pretty much) full moon tonight, but the moon rises late and very low in summer so not very visible right now.

pontipinemum · 04/06/2023 23:31

I'm in Ireland so guessing I will see it too. What does it look like?

That's if I can ever get baby into his bed screams every time I put him down

My garden faces south, the moon is to the left and I looked straight ahead and there is a star way brighter than the others and more golden. Is that Venus?

comfyoldcardi · 04/06/2023 23:36

Yes, it looks golden. With lots of points.

OP posts:
HomeB · 04/06/2023 23:36

Yes, it doesn't flicker like stars. That's Venus

Saisong · 04/06/2023 23:38

Not in the south though, Venus is getting fairly low in the horizon in the west - following the setting sun. If you are looking south and quite high you are probably seeing Arcturus? If you can find the 'handle' of The Plough and follow the curved line of it does it point at your yellow star?

Xiaoxiong · 04/06/2023 23:38

I just saw the moon very low on the horizon, absolutely colossal and a very sinister orange colour!

@pontipinemum I'm in Ireland too. I can see it clearly, very bright, quite low in the western sky. Much brighter than any of the stars.

Saisong · 04/06/2023 23:42

@Xiaoxiong is beautiful isn't it. In June the full moon is called the strawberry moon. Not because of the colour, but because it rises in the month when strawberries are harvested. It is that colour now because you are viewing it through lots of layers of atmosphere. When it gets higher it will look more silver.

Eternallyoptimistic20 · 04/06/2023 23:42

Just took a look , I am very lucky to have a balcony . Absolutely stunning , almost like the star of Bethlehem on Christmas cards .

champagneplanet · 04/06/2023 23:42

Is that what it is? DH and I were sat out last night and I commented that the only star was very bright, DH said it can't be the north star as we were sat facing west, it must be Venus! How interesting, thank you OP Smile

The full moon was last night and it was a Strawberry Moon, officially the first full moon of the summer! We missed it as it wasn't up when we walked the dog and we usually see it. I guess we were much earlier than usual. I'll have a look in a sec when I let her out for her bedtime wees

picturethispatsy · 04/06/2023 23:44

The strawberry moon was beautiful last night and tonight. Such a treat! Hope you can all see it.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 04/06/2023 23:46

It’s lovely, a beautiful sky tonight

Bellavida99 · 04/06/2023 23:47

We were admiring it in France all week so definitely not a uk specific thing but yes it’s amazing. And the moon has looked huge and orange the last couple of days too
