I'm about as central london as its possible to get... marble arch.. you can barely even see the sky. Two days I was in a quiet island seaside town miles from anywhere but was so knackered I was in bed by dark. Such a shame.

He's asleep so I'm having a look. Thanks. It's the only 1 there so I think I'm looking at the right thing. I'll certainly show ds these sort of things when he's older.

@DramaAlpaca this is looking west out of my house

I went up our local hill with a couple of mates last night and saw the sunset and the strawberry moon rise. It was so lovely that we walked four miles across country, accompanied by wild ponies for some of the way. And yes, Venus us so clear and beautiful.

Just popped my head out to check and it's golden and glowing, amazing.

Ha in outer London I thought I saw it from an upstairs window. Told my OH, he went outside. Was a street lamp. Still, needed a laugh 😎

We were admiring it in France all week so definitely not a uk specific thing but yes it’s amazing. And the moon has looked huge and orange the last couple of days too

I know nothing really about stars (shameful I know) except that the southern hemisphere looks different. So I said UK to be on the safe side. Grin

Ohhhh is that what it was. DH and I were commenting on it this evening. Thanks!

RailwayCutting · 05/06/2023 00:26

Just saw it. I usually can't see much as I live at the bottom of a valley and there's a lot of light pollution but could see that!

If you're interested in watching planets, here is a good website:
https://www.timeanddate.com/astronomy/night/

Discovered it few years ago, one night when you could see 3 or 4 planets at the same time, like very bright stars. If you put it on a smartphone, it shows you exactly the part of sky in front of you.

Which Planets Can You See Tonight?

Choose tonight or another date and see which planets are shining in the sky above you or anywhere else.

Does it look kind of irregular shaped? I saw it earlier this week and was squinting thinking my eyes were tired and blurry, it was very big and bright compared to other stars but not a “round” shape like other stars.

Titusgroan · 05/06/2023 01:14

I’ve just had a look and Too overcast here I think.
Thanks for mentioning tho OP I’m going to keep an eye out each night now.

There’s also an app a friend of mine has.
You can put your phone up to the sky and it lists all the stars as you see them.
It also locates the planets.
