Do you have an ironing board?

Rarely use it and it's taking up a lot of space in my small home. Should I chuck it? Is there a smaller alternative?

I don't iron, but my husband irons all his shirts.

Gooseysgirl · 02/06/2023 14:01

Yes, I've had it for about twenty years. It gets used about twice per year because I would rather spend my time on other stuff. My DM and DSis LOVE ironing and are horrified at me 😆 They even iron knickers... good luck to them!!!!

DH's grandmother gave me her ironing board 30 years ago.

Its a heavy wooden one with a chain running underneath to adjust the height. I love ironing on it, it does not move and is very sturdy. Has about 5 covers on it to pad it out😂

It gets used at least once a week, a lot less since I bought myself a Fastpress which is an amazing machine.

I know I own one but but I have no idea where it is. See also, the iron.

MargaretThursday · 02/06/2023 14:24

Yes. It lives under the sofa. We haven't got an iron at the moment though. 🤣

WithIcePlease · 02/06/2023 14:43

DD's didn't believe I had one and I do. It was bought in 1992 on Hucknall second hand market for £2 and still going strong 😊

Rasputina · 02/06/2023 15:02

Nope, on the rare occasion something needs ironing I use a streamer instead, much quicker and more effective!

MaidOfSteel · 02/06/2023 15:15

I've always had an ironing board and probably always will. My husband does the ironing, though. About once a week. He's quite particular about how things are ironed, having been in the Forces for a long time, and he does a much better job than I ever could. We squeeze the board in the cupboard that houses the boiler heating thingy.

grafittiartist · 02/06/2023 15:37

I have two!
Both used every week at least.

Sagittariusrising · 02/06/2023 15:56

I recently bought my ironing board a lovely new aqua cover from Amazon which looks lovely and I iron probably once a week. I draw the line at bedlinen but most things get a run over with the iron after being line dried, if possible. I just feel more 'finished' and yes, I also iron my knickers. I also wear a lot of cotton and linen in summer so like it to be ironed before I wear it. Funnily enough I hate most other housework but looking at a nice pile of ironed and folded clothes gives me great satisfaction.

Mine is out constantly because I use it daily, I don't understand people who don't!

Same!! It's giving me anxiety the thought of all these creased clothes 😂

cocksstrideintheevening · 02/06/2023 16:38

No not an iron.

Beezknees · 02/06/2023 17:15

Yes, I hate creased clothes. I live in a flat so I don't have a tumble drier and can't hang my clothes outside, I have to dry everything on an airer inside. So the creases don't drop out. It all needs ironing. I don't iron pants though!

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 02/06/2023 17:18

I don't have an ironing board. I do have an iron, it's used for hemming tape on our son's school trousers - I just put a thick towel on a table top and iron on that.

My DM loves ironing. Seriously. Finds it therapeutic. Weird ....

bananaboats · 02/06/2023 18:10

No, towel on the dining table here too for the rare occasion we have to iron anything.

Gettingbysomehow · 02/06/2023 18:13

I iron everything I wear and I'm expected to iron my work iniform. I have one medium sized one with a hanger top that can be hung in my wardrobe.

I not only have an ironing board but an ironing room 😂when our last DC left the nest, I was able to grab back the smallest bedroom and I've got the ironing board left up in there, with our heated airer and a clothes rail. It's used daily.

I'll get my coat on the way out ...

I have an ironing room too 😃

I have a little sideline thing on the go buying and selling, so this is the 'shop' and ironing room. Nothing gets photographed without being ironed first, and everything is ironed again before I send it out.

And yes, my bedding is ironed too.

My previous ironing board fitted into my cleaning cupboard , bit my new one is bigger, so doesn't. So this is it's new home now. Gets packed away if I have any visitors though.

Yeah we’ve got one but also have ironing mat think that come from Wilkinson

dunhelm do one that fits in back of door

SweetPetrichor · 02/06/2023 19:02

We do, but I don’t use it for clothes. I only use it to iron sewing projects. DP does use it for its intended purpose though cause he wears shirts that need ironed.
