Hello,

Im moving from Devon to chellaston as my husband has just landed a good job with RR. We are looking to be in chellaston, I know there are a few nicer areas not far from there that we are also looking at but my preference is chellaston due to it being closer.

Anyone live around or near the area? My question is, is it a nice place to live and bring up children? What’s the locals opinions of chellaston too, is it thought of as a sh&t tip, considered a posh place to live? What’s it like?

Please tell me your thoughts wise ones.

If private is an option look at Repton School it is a league above Derby High and Derby Independent Grammar (which isn't and never was a grammar school).

Landau Forte College has the best results in Derby. My children go there and we are very happy with the school. Their catchment covers the whole of Derby,
It‘s hard to get into as a year 6 into 7, but easier for in-school transfers.
Let me know if you want a contact name for your children‘s year group as I know all of the Heads of Year from having the kids go right through there.

Regarding areas, Chellaston is fine, Mickleover and Littleover are lovely too.

I'm from Derby originally, and never like a Chellaston at all sorry. Allestree and Duffield are nicer and really not that far. Once you move to Greater London and have a one hour commute, it doesn't seem that bad. Even Nottingham surrounding areas are only half an hour or so by train ...

Chellaston is ok but a bit of a bland area to be honest. There are far nicer areas within commutable distance.
Derby is a small city so none of the suburbs are more than 30mins commute.
Allestree is lovely as is Duffield but both are pretty ££
Mickleover is also a nice area. Schools wise Littleover community is a good school or possibly Landau Forte. Are you looking for primary or secondary OP?

Derbyshire girl here. You would ideally need to be around Derby as a commute from Burton takes around 30 kins in the bus. Depending on how far out you want to be there is Alfreton, mikolover and others just depends what you see your family doing.
