Ridiculously niche question...for Londoners/people who've been to the NHM recently

I am taking nephew to the Natural History Museum next week.

Now I am not saying that 7 year old boys occasionally get odd fixations, but: when I asked him what he'd like to do (other than see the biggest Titanosaur fossil ever found) he answered: I really really want to try an ice cream sandwich. This is his dream of London, an ice cream sandwich (Ie ice cream between two cookies). He has never had one. I think he may have read of them in a book.

So. Does anyone know anywhere near the NHM/round South Kensington generally, where one can buy an ice cream sandwich???

I’m not certain they do icecream sandwiches, but Bens cookies in South Kensington (close to the tube station) sells cookies and ice cream.

Happy Endings make fabulous ice cream sandwiches. They tend to be more available in east London (where they're based) and in hipster joints, but their website says they're stocked at 'Supermarket of Dreams' (a deli near Holland Park tube) which looks to be closest to the NHM.

Possibly Oddonos … In the branch near me I’m pretty sure I’ve seen what look like ice cream sandwiches in their special fridge where they do the cute mini cones that my toddler loves! And there’s a branch in South Ken. I just don’t want to promise as I’m not certain but I can guarantee that their gelato is delicious, the best in London I think, so regardless it won’t be a wasted trip!

You can buy them in pretty much any supermarket if you dont manage to get one.

Or lame but you can get a multipack of Oreo ice cream sandwiches in most supermarkets!

There’s an ice cream place called Venchi round the corner from South Ken tube on the way to the NHM. They might be worth a look?

@LaBaDeeLaBaDa there's a mini waitrose and a mini sainsburys down the road towards harrods where they probably have them in singles if you dont want to get/cant get a fancy one.

Buy some nice cookies and keep in bag for when you find and ice cream stall.. and a paper plate. Lol

I don’t know if they do an ice cream sandwich but you could walk along to Harrods and go into the food hall - we did that with Ds aged 9 at the time and it blew his mind looking at all the expensive foods! We let him choose a small box of chocolates to take home and he loved that more than the NHM!

I've been in there with my kids and they were in awe. We are planning g a one off special trip to actually buy some bits one day....

There’s a couple of fancy ice cream places opposite on the walk towards Kensington. They always have queues outside.

I realise this is not helpful as I’ve given no names! Have a stalk on Google maps.

we had a macaroon one round the back of Leicester Square once. It was really good. I’ll dig through my photos for the name

the bao ones are amazing. But they aren’t cookies. Chin chins quite nice, we might have gone on a bad day but the flavours weren’t “normal”. Mamaison don’t seem to have one on their website anymore.

We went for fancy ice cream sundaes really near there, no idea if it survived lockdown but I'm sure google maps can help

Give Oddono’s a call and ask. They make amazing ice cream cakes.

Harrods ice cream parlour has closed down now, but Fortnum & Mason have a fab one (with menu online) if you’re heading back into central London (Piccadilly).

There is a branch of Snowflake gelato right by the NHM on Thurloe Street (by South Ken tube). They do ice cream cookies and macarons. You can see them in the "gelato treats" section on their site. For some reason, they don't seem to have the "treats" isted on the menu pdf on the website. They definitely have them though. I have just checked on Deliveroo!

They are quite "grown up flavours" though but not as "grown up" as the Happy Endings one that all seem to have something like sea salt or very dark chocolate. I was not a fan of the Happy Endings Chocolate Guinness cake with Dulce de Leche MISO salted caramel sandwich 😂

You might get an Oreo sandwich or Mr Whippy between 2 wafers from one of the ice cream vans near the museum, if that is more to your nephew's taste.

Oh phenomenal - do you know I looked at their menu last night and couldn't see ice cream sandwiches on there but didn't think to check deliveroo. AMAZING!

Actually Venchi is a (quite pricey) Italian chocolate brand. They serve gelato in some of their stores but really they're all about the chocolate. The chocolate is delicious and I advise against trying it or very bad things will happen to both your waistline and your bank account 😂( I speak from extensive personal experience 😋)
