A kilo of out of date dessicated coconut - anything I can do with it?

I'm on a massive house tidying up vibe at the minute. Thread here

I've just emptied a drawer ready for cleaning and found a kilo of dessicated coconut that went out of date three years ago.

Are there any possible uses for it?

Baking with it isn't an option. I can't feed it to the birds.

What else can I do with it? I feel bad just dumping it.

I'm going to sort out and tidy up every drawer and cupboard in my house. Want to join in? | Mumsnet

This morning I woke up with a kind of itchy compulsion to sort and tidy every single drawer and cupboard in my whole house. I have no idea why but I'm...

You can't give desiccated coconut to birds.

I'm worried all these people who would feed it to the birds. Are you trying to kill them?

MaryCondom · 31/05/2023 13:42

I actually bought it years back for a curry I used to make all the time. Then I went off that curry. Ooops.

I made some lavender scrub from my garden last year and still have about a metric tonne of that left. So I do love the idea of making some body and beauty goodies but might need to use up what I have first.

I could try some granola bars, good shout.

Not a huge fan of porridge though so that's a no-go.

OP - how did you come to own 1kg of dessicated coconut that you have absolutely no use for?

Kitcaterpillar · 31/05/2023 13:45

Oh, you answered as I posted. Thank you, thank you, nothing useful to add but noseyness!

Bin it.

You haven’t needed it in three years. You don’t need it now.

This is how and why houses get cluttered.

This! As much as I hate waste you can’t keep everything.

Why not?
Birds love coconut?

IAmcuriousyellow · 31/05/2023 13:48

As you’ve got a wedding coming up you could dye it pretty colours & use as biodegradable confetti

Hydrate it first.

steppemum · 31/05/2023 13:55

birds can't have it in case it swells inside them.

So dump it in a bucket of water, let it soak and swell and then feed it to the birds

I'm not going to the wedding though.

Thanks everyone, have some ideas now. And, worst case scenario, I will bin it Smile
