Rubbish title but hopefully you know what I mean.

For me, those who spring to mind are:
Sir David Attenborough
Tom Hanks
Usain Bolt
Judy Dench

I never, ever want to meet Bruce Springsteen as he’s been a hero of mine since childhood and it would be life changing to discover he is actually unpleasant!

Tbf celebrities are human and have off days like everyone else but it seems they are never allowed to be ‘grumpy’. It must be draining to have to put your game face on all the time. I was in a bar once and saw Daniel Radcliffe trying to have a quiet drink with a friend. The number of people who approached him demanding a photo and autograph was ridiculous. I would have completely lost it after the 3rd or 4th request. I guess that’s the price of fame.

A lot of ideals will be shattered about all the Davids in years to come! Being vile must come with the name.

Most celebs though, are like most people - get them on a good day and they are a delight. Get them on a bad day and not so much. I’ve seen some celebs people would say are angels on earth be utter twats to people for no reason and some with awful reps be kind and gracious.

Saying that, if Keanu Reeves is ever outed as anything other than the purest human alive, I will be devastated.

PickAChew · 30/05/2023 23:27

I'm OK with slebs who can be grumpy fuckers - can't we all. It's a human survival trait in a busy world. I have no time for actively demeaning or in the least bit creepy or violent, though.

To the PPs who’ve said Tom Hanks - his nickname is hanky Panky and Rita’s given him the elbow on several occasions!

Surprised that someone mentioned Chris Packham - not only does he come across as rather unpleasant, but he is known to have very harmful views about country sports and seems to think it's fine for swathes of the rural population to lose their livelihoods. He doesn't understand the rural economy at all.

Those views are only harmful to those who advocate and participate in country sports. And the likes of the CA are not above being violently aggressive in the way they engage with discussions and/or activism on that subject.

The idea that the whole, or even majority of the rural economy is dependent on country sports is a myth (and one of the biggest shooting estates in the country happens to be situated right next to my neighbouring village). There are farmers in my locality who far from advocate that behaviour and loathe the hunts, their entitlement in stampeding over their land and the damage done to property.

Whether or not Packham's views are 'harmful' depends on where you stand on the cruelty issue - and even he favours deer culls because he actually understands where needs must when it comes to wildlife/countryside conservation and management.

As for being 'unpleasant', he's certainly never given the impression of being so, other than to determinedly state that he isn't going to shut up, capitulate to bullying or accept people committing libel against him.

He is also autistic.

"Ranger Hamza - I would seriously cry if he turned out to be either a paedo, or an arrogant twat."
Came on the thread to say him, yeah if he turned out to be a wrong 'un I would retire from humanity and just go and be a hermit somewhere.

"Alexander Armstrong! Oh god yes, imagine if the voice of Duggee turned out to be a cunt! Would be devastating." I know!

Re Monty Don- I met him once "backstage" at a garden show my DH was working at, when we were both relaxing in the back of the show office, him between being "on" and me getting a break in the cool from traipsing round on a boiling hot day with a very young baby, pram and dog.
He was lovely to me, baby and dog, same air of calm like on telly. Quiet and kind, not acting the big I am at all. I didn't find him arrogant at all, though I did get the vibe that being on show all day and talking in a busy environment takes quite a bit out of him. Presumably it makes him a good living so he does it- graciously from what I could see- but I suspect he might need a lie down in a darkened room or under a tree miles from the nearest person after it, rather than feeding off it IYSWIM. If you want a bit of thoughtful conversation and a bit of companionable silence, Monty's your man .

There's nothing to say, that's a celebrity has to be a pleasant person. The difference between being unpleasant and being a complete psycho or paedophile or whatever is another matter.

I want Rylan to be a gem. But I think he will do something and screw it up.
Or he'll hire a surrogate at some point and I'll be forever disappointed in him.

Oh God, this.

On threads like this I always automatically ignore any report of a 'grumpy' celeb that goes anything along the lines of 'well I saw X in a hotel foyer with their family and went over and asked for a selfie but they were awful, so rude, I couldn't believe it...' Errrr...or maybe you were awful and rude for interrupting them.

On the other hand, if posters have direct experience of working with or for a celeb, and comment that they were awful and rude to deal with, then I tend to believe them.

Getting interrupted all the time by random members of the public would be enough to drive anyone bonkers but if a celeb has proved themselves unpleasant to work with then that's a different story.
