How the hell do I spend a One4All card?

DC were given one each and I can't seem to get them to work online. Set them up on Amazon as a payment method, as per the instructions, but each time we try and use them to buy something it doesn't work. Any tips?

They really are a pain. I think if you spend online the purchase has to be the exact amount of the card or less.
You can also go on the website and swop them for a gift card instead so you can put money towards them if you spend online.
I did this last time the children were given them.
They also decrease in value every month after having them for a certain amount of time.

go to a sainburys argos they usually have gift cards in store. We either swap them for a sainburys card

I use them all the time and never knew that they could be spent in Amazon. A quick Google suggests that you can’t

You have to know exactly how much is on them and enter the exact amount or less on the payment terminal. They're a pain in the arse.

VWRabbit · 30/05/2023 19:55

If you're my mum, you'd be given one with twenty quid on it, but not realise that the card actually gets charged a fee every month if you don't use it, and then end up with a balance of zero and a years long grudge against the shitty company behind it all 😂

Luckypoppy · 30/05/2023 19:56

They can't be used for Amazon any more.

Reallybadidea · 30/05/2023 20:03

Yeah, you can't use them at Amazon. They're also very difficult to use online at places that will take them (in theory) because you can't use them in part payment, so you have to spend less or the same as the value. The best solution I've found is to swap them for an egift card from a very small list of retailers so that you can at least use them as part payment https://www.one4all.com/egifts

GladysHeeler · 30/05/2023 20:03

They are a pain in the arse. I usually end up buying them from the dc and spending them at TKMaxx through the year on household stuff.

Ilikewinter · 30/05/2023 20:17

Just to add, you can use them as part payment in a shop BUT you need to tell the assistant the exact amount on the card or it doesnt work. I used to cry a little when a customer produced an One4All card!

christmassausages · 30/05/2023 21:11

You can spend them in M&S. I bought my son's off him and bought knickers😆😆

OliviaOyl · 30/05/2023 21:34

Thanks everyone. That's odd, I found instructions on their site for using them at Amazon but that was just after Christmas. I think I'll need to try and exchange them for a gift card. They do seem a lot of hassle.

I tried and tried using it online but just used it in a shop in the end up.. I think the trick is they want money to be put on them and never spent 🤷🏼‍♀️

CornishTiger · 30/05/2023 21:40

They are awful. Spend them in Argos. If you don’t want the item take it back and get an Argos gift card!

Leeds2 · 30/05/2023 21:40

If it helps, I used one instore (for less than the amount on the card) at Boots last week. I had tried, unsuccessfully, to use it at various places online but I think that was because my purchases came to more than what was on the card, and it didn't deduct the card value from the total cost.

oh ffs, really? I've been sitting on two of these for about 2 years now, what a scam

OliviaOyl · 31/05/2023 10:46

Just realised I can't use them in a shop because I scratched the code off the back when trying to spend them online. They are a racket. Must be thousands each year that remain unspent.

I buy them off the DCs, exchange them for John Lewis vouchers and spend them in Waitrose

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 31/05/2023 10:51

We discovered we could spend ours on wine from Laithwaites.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 31/05/2023 14:11

My DS had one and used it( immediately!) in M&S
Not the easiest "gift" for the recipient

Toddlerteaplease · 31/05/2023 14:36

I think I went into John Lewis and bought a John Lewis gift voucher with it

thecatsthecats · 31/05/2023 15:27

If you want to give a gift that's "One4All"... Send money!

Erictheavocado · 31/05/2023 15:34

DH and I were given these during COVID. Tried to spend them online and they wouldn't work, though we followed the instructions on the website. By the time we were able to go into a shop ( and felt happy to do so) their value had dwindled to nothing. A complete rip off and I would never buy these. To be honest, if I was given one I'd be inclined to say a heartfelt thank you and hand it back as they are just too much hassle to spend.

I'm sure you can I've always used them as that's how you check the balance as well. I've had over £300 on various ones over the last few years and never had a single issue with them

OliviaOyl · 31/05/2023 16:21

Thanks @firsttimemumhere. I've bought a couple of random small items fromArgos and given the kids the money instead.

My boss gives us all one of these every Christmas. I just exchange for an e-gift card for somewhere like New Look or H&M and use it that way. I hate them, but I only have one a year to deal with!
