How the hell do I spend a One4All card?

DC were given one each and I can't seem to get them to work online. Set them up on Amazon as a payment method, as per the instructions, but each time we try and use them to buy something it doesn't work. Any tips?

They are such a scam, it's impossible to use them unless you find something for the exact amount. That's if you manage to find somewhere to spend them before they expire.

Saucery · 31/05/2023 17:10

I bought John Lewis vouchers with mine and dc’s, after trying to spend them elsewhere.

caffelattetogo · 31/05/2023 17:37

They are awful. The very worst gift card with an aggressive marketing campaign.

Kpo58 · 31/05/2023 17:45

I've never had a problem with them. You just need to remember how much is on them. I think that they also have to go through the till like a debit card instead of a gift card which confuses some stores.

CheeseAndOnionIsMyFav · 31/05/2023 18:13

If using them online it's usually helpful to buy a voucher with them. You can then pay with the voucher and also a debit card to buy something more than the One4All voucher on it's own.

They're a right pain to use though and a total scam.

CheeseAndOnionIsMyFav · 31/05/2023 18:16

And yes, definitely write how much is left on the card before you head out to use it in person. The stores need to swipe it as a debit card so you need to tell them how much is on there if you want to spend more than the One4All amount. They should then be able to take a 2nd payment card for the outstanding amount left to pay.

roundtable · 31/05/2023 18:47

How can you find out what's on them? I've been given 4 each with £5 on them. They probably don't have anything left on them now from the sounds of it!

Kpo58 · 31/05/2023 18:50

There is a balance checker on their website that tells you.

roundtable · 31/05/2023 19:13

Thank you!

shivawn · 31/05/2023 20:35

My husband's workplace send these out fairly regularly to say thank you after a particularly busy period or to celebrate finishing a big project. We always spend them going out for meals. I don't find them a hassle at all, I love it when they show up in the post.

LuckOfTheDrawer · 31/05/2023 20:40

I remember a long thread about these previously - the consensus was that these are a massive PITA, and that this just so happens to mean that a lot go unspent.

I used mine to buy a different giftcard, a John Lewis or Marks & Spencers one IIRC.

DelurkingAJ · 31/05/2023 20:44

I spent DSs’ in Boots and gave them the cash. Did so instantly so I knew how much was on them as I’d seen a thread here on them (for which I am grateful!).

HighInTheHills · 31/05/2023 22:18

They are a pain in the fucking star to spend! The way I got round it with mine was to buy gift vouchers from M&S online with it.

If I recall correctly you input the one4all gift card number as if you were paying for the gift vouchers with a credit card.

If you Google it there are instructions on how to do if as that's how I can across it.

Then you just spend your M&S vouchers as usual.

HighInTheHills · 31/05/2023 22:23

*arse not star! Blasted autocorrect trying to temper my language!

2chocolateoranges · 31/05/2023 22:27

In laws buy us them every year, I tend to buy shoes from schuh or perfume from Boots. They are such a hassle to use especially online and shop staff grumble when you try to use them too.

hettiethehare · 31/05/2023 22:28

Fucking horrible things - I managed to convert mine to JL vouchers but the whole
process was ridiculously painful and seemed to involve two separate logins from memory.

Freezylap · 31/05/2023 22:29

I got one at Xmas and after having one expire previously I made sure to use it immediately on a food shop in M&S. Not very exciting but I just felt relieved to have spent the damn thing.

Ambi · 31/05/2023 22:31

I hate them so much. When the DC get them, I swap them for cash so the kids can truly spend their birthday money where they want. I note exactly how much is on each card (check online if not sure) with a sharpie and head to Primark or New Look for a splurge.

Evenstar · 31/05/2023 22:38

You can exchange them for an E Gift certificate on the One 4 All website and it is possible to use them as part payment for some stores online. I got £30 towards something I wanted from John Lewis.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 31/05/2023 23:16

I don't see how it is a scam. You have twelve months to use them after which they start to lose value.

I received a voucher from John Lewis which expired in its totality after 12 months.
In actual fact I used the JL voucher to buy a dress which didn't fit so I returned it, the refund gave me a new expiry date of a new 12 month period but when I tried to use it after the original 12 month period it failed. Despite an email setting out a new period they would have none of it and I lost the whole £100.

If received we use One4All in restaurants mostly

Ambi · 03/06/2023 00:32

It's not a scam but £20 note after 3 years is still a £20 note (albeit with inflation issues). A £20 gift card will have severely devalued. It's the insurance business model to hope 🤞that the end user doesn't use your product so you can pocket the cash for your own revenue.

Newcastle123 · 15/12/2023 12:01

You can swap the balance over to Googleplay and then use Googlepay which makes it a lot easier to spend the money your friends/family were duped into handing over to this crappy company that makes nothing but plastic cards and headaches.
PLEASE STOP SUPPORTING THESE CRAPPY COMPANIES AND JUST GIVE CASH INSTEAD.

Kelli3y · 16/03/2024 19:07

How did you do that I was trying to use mine In river island and I scanned it from my wallet but it wouldn't register. Thanks

caffelattetogo · 21/03/2024 13:13

Those cards are the worst.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 21/03/2024 15:24

We discovered we could use them to buy wine from Laithwaites.
