How much and how often do you drink once your DC are in bed and asleep?

Mine is actually grown up n gone now, so it's a moot point for me.

Not much when she was a baby
Regularly when she was at primary school.
Less as she became a teen and I had to Momma taxi
I very rarely day-drank or drank alcohol in front or around her.

We will share a bottle of wine when the kids are in bed, usually maybe every other week? Sometimes but more regularly and sometimes less

TheShellBeach · 30/05/2023 18:43

I was a single parent for a while so I never drank when the children were in bed.

When I remarried we had a couple of drinks maybe once a month - and not both together.

I don't think the second clause in your first sentence necessarily follows the first in the way 'so' suggests it does. I drink when I'm alone with the children in the house. Not much, but more than I would drive on. Hats off to you though, I'm not a massive drinker but would find that hard. To answer the OP, I have a drink on Fridays and Saturdays usually.

Very little. A glass of wine or beer for him here and there but not much. When it’s just me with the kids I don’t drink at all. They are young though - 2 and 5!

ChiChaNaYubi · 30/05/2023 20:16

Not really at all while we have a toddler because the hangover just isn’t worth it! When we just had a 7 year old though we drank maybe once a week?

Woahtherehoney · 30/05/2023 20:18

I’m not a big drinker really but hardly ever on the nights we have my DSS (4/5 nights a week) and never if he’s at home with just me if DP is at work just in case there’s an emergency. DP doesn’t drink either.

I only really drink now if out with friends or with my DP when we don’t have DSS.

Single parent of DC age 4 and 11. I have a single bottle of lager or cider maybe once or twice a week, either when the smallest is in bed and I'm watching TV with the big one, or after they're both in bed. Never more than that unless I have company (rare) in which case I might have 2 bottles, or share a bottle of wine. And I might go several weeks not drinking at all, mostly for exercise or weight loss purposes.

I don't drive anyway, so I need to be sober enough to be in charge if anything happens, but don't judge that by being OK to drive.

LittleBumblebee3 · 30/05/2023 20:24

I don’t drink at all when DH is away at work (offshore 4 weeks on/4 weeks off) and I’m alone with toddler DC.

When DH is home I’ll maybe have a glass of wine or a G&T but probably only about once every couple of months 😅

I cut alcohol completely when we started TTC and have barely touched it since tbh!

coodawoodashooda · 30/05/2023 20:27

Zero. Have done plenty. Just got sick of it. I buy fake wine as I realise I like the glass and chill moment. Don't expect to be teetotal forever but it works for me just now.

Temporaryanonymity · 30/05/2023 20:28

I never drink at home. If I go out (rarely) I might have one or two drinks.

Flittingaboutagain · 30/05/2023 20:31

Nothing alcoholic if it's just me and them as they're very little. If both of us fancy more than one drink we tend to alternate who has a couple.

MaryJean87 · 30/05/2023 20:33

A bottle of wine on the weekends, a few glasses during the week.

bloodywhitecat · 30/05/2023 20:34

I don't (single foster carer), it's a long drive to hospital from here and this little one has complex health needs with frequent visits to hospital. However, when they go to their short break family I do have a glass or two because I know I can be off duty for a night or two.

DuranNotSpandeau · 30/05/2023 20:38

None. 11 years of parenting someone who thinks 6am is a lie-in means I can't be bothered. I'm a complete lightweight with alcohol so even one drink will mean I feel shit when I'm up before 6am.😂

thewonderfulthingabouttigger · 30/05/2023 20:39

I'm a single parent and I don't drink as it's just me and DD. We live rurally and if we needed the hospital it would most likely be fastest for me to drive us there. Same for if any of the pets needed the emergency vets, driving would be the only option.

Esjolaol1973 · 30/05/2023 20:42

I didn’t drink at all when my children were young , probably started having a few glasses when my youngest started secondary. I do have a couple of evenings a week when I have 2-3 glasses of wine now . My children are all adults now.

thelinkisdead · 30/05/2023 20:51

My two are a bit older now (10 & 7) so we get plenty of lie ins, but I’m not a massive drinker. Most weeks nothing Mon - Thurs, then Fri we’ll share a bottle of wine or have a few beers; Saturday will be similar, but we generally end up with half a bottle of wine or so left so we’ll share that on Sunday evening. So two bottles a week between us?

Simonjt · 30/05/2023 20:54

Most nights, but never more than one beer, I do like non-alcoholic beer, so sometimes thats what I have, but they’re all on the same shelf in the fridge, so its pot luck as to whether or not its an alcohol free one.

I drink 1-2 glasses of wine every night, and maybe a bottle or two over the weekends. Sounds like a lot compared to the rest of you...

(I have a 2.5 year old)

I'm dieting but was similar! For me tho it was becoming too much of a habit but I definitely enjoyed that "aaand relax" feeling it gave me!

Tend to have a bottle on a Friday night tho as DH off so he'll pour me a glass whilst cooking then I'll have one with dinner and furnish the bottle watching gogglebox!

bluemoonswoon · 30/05/2023 21:05

We probably drink 3 or 4 nights a week. Not much but a gin and tonic or 2 or we share a bottle of wine

Same, just with a 3 year old 😅

This is about what I drink sometimes more I have a 2 and 4 year old.

Overitx · 30/05/2023 21:16

Every Saturday without fail. I really look forward to it. We have a games night with the kids. I usually have 1 bottle of wine. Sometimes slightly more.

Cynderella · 30/05/2023 21:18

When my kids were younger, I didn't drink much at all. Couldn't afford it. As they got older, a bottle of wine every weekend between us. More often if we had family staying. Would probably drink 'too much' once a month - not enough to be incapable of dealing with the kids in an emergency, but way too much to drive.

Kids adult now. Glass of wine most evenings. Sometimes two. Occasionally, more than two. It's been years since I was so drunk I couldn't function the next day - I just can't do that now.
