How much and how often do you drink once your DC are in bed and asleep?

Mine is actually grown up n gone now, so it's a moot point for me.

Not much when she was a baby
Regularly when she was at primary school.
Less as she became a teen and I had to Momma taxi
I very rarely day-drank or drank alcohol in front or around her.

When our children were little we often had friends over on weekends - all pissed and having a good time.

These days mine are older. They don't factor in to my decision about having a glass of wine. I have one most nights. Sometimes none, sometimes a whiskey.

I don’t drink anymore, but I personally don’t know anyone who waits til their children are in bed or drinks but not around them.

I stopped drinking when I got pg with DD about 6 years ago and then never started again. Had a drink recently on a rare night out with old friends and realised I needed it to feel relaxed around other people, but have rarely socialised since having DD so not felt the need to drink. I'll probably drink again when I'm able to go out more in the evenings, but don't think I would drink on my own or just with DH.

I don't drink in the week but Fri/ Sat / sun I will share a bottle of wine with OH. This week is half term for all of us so wine is most nights! Kids are 7 and 5.

Ive got a 3 & 2 year old and I very rarely drink, not even one glass of anything a month.. it's totally not worth the shit sleep and shit show that is the next day. Before kids id be drunk from Friday to Sunday.
I can't even imagine it picking up as they get older.. but maybe it will. When we eventually get to go out again 🤣

I didn’t drink at all when they were babies/ young toddlers as they were close together in age plus do sleeping and extended BF. However, I had a few years when they were primary school age when I drank too much - several times a week and a bottle a night at weekends. It crept up on me and I justified it by saying they were in bed at 7 and hospital only a night away. My tolerance was pretty high but obviously wouldn’t have driven. I didn’t drink if they were poorly in any way.

However, I reached a point where I realised it was becoming problematic and they were older so staying up later, and I did not want to impart the message that regular drinking was normal or desirable. So when they were 8 and 10, I stopped drinking pretty much. Last drink was a glass of fizz for DWs birthday in early Feb.

I don’t have any regrets and I don’t miss it at all, in fact I feel loads better. That being said, I have no issue with moderate drinking around children - if you can moderate that is!

Hospital was a mile away I should say.

I rarely drank when I had young children at home because I wanted to be able to drive them to A&E if the need arose (it never did).

You're all very saintly 😀 I have a bottle over three nights at the weekend and nothing during the week

MumsShark · 30/05/2023 22:05

None. I'm a single parent and only drink socially so never 😆
