Aperol at home. Am I missing something?

I often have a G&T of a weekend evening but fancied an Aperol spritz tonight. I have all of the ingredients but it strikes me as a waste to open a bottle of Prosecco & another of soda water when I just want one drink. I probably wouldn't have another until next Friday or Saturday and imagine both bottles will have gone flat by then. I don't want them cluttering up the fridge either! Is there an alternative? Am I missing something? I swear friends & colleagues have one of these of an evening and it's just them drinking it.

Mini fever tree cans/mini prosecco bottles. I get both from Tesco.

Damnspot · 28/05/2023 18:21

This is why I stick to g and t

Schweppes tonic stays fizzy for a week after opening, god knows what's in it

newtowelsplease · 28/05/2023 18:23

As others have said, mini cans of tonic are your friend. I like it just with tonic, doesn't need the Prosecco

Maybe they drink more than 1? A bottle of prosecco would be OK on the next night. Cheap prosecco from Lidl or aldi doesn't cost much more than a small bottle either!

FlounderingFruitcake · 28/05/2023 18:26

You can get mini bottles of prosecco

Madeintowerhamlets · 28/05/2023 18:27

You can make it with soda water/ fizzy water instead of Prosecco although it doesn’t have as much flavour.

EggInANest · 28/05/2023 18:28

I like Aperol Vodka Tonic.

ThursdayLastWeek · 28/05/2023 18:28

MOTH cocktails do a nice pre-made one in a can

ThursdayLastWeek · 28/05/2023 18:30

or a Campari g&t is nice for the same kind of vibe.

Hollyppp · 28/05/2023 18:35

As other posters have said, cans or mini bottles. Or a partner who wants a couple too!

Orbitsound · 28/05/2023 18:37

Lidl do small cans of sparkling white wine - perfect.

Dawncleo62 · 28/05/2023 19:00

You can get a bottle stopper for fizzy wine but also keep in fridge.

helpfulperson · 28/05/2023 19:11

Lidls do nice cans of their version of aperol spritz which can be topped up with white wine or gin if you have any in.

Bargellobitch · 28/05/2023 19:13

You are missing a small bottle of prosecco and can of soda water. Enjoy!

Hazelnuttella · 28/05/2023 19:14

I do Aperol and tonic. If you like very sweet drinks then you could do aperol and lemonade too.

AtomicBlondeRose · 28/05/2023 19:18

Second the Lidl fake version - really nice and very cheap too!

Washinglinewench29 · 28/05/2023 19:55

Also here to say the lidl version, aldi do one too. It's £1 a can!

Hbh17 · 28/05/2023 19:56

Just normal white wine is best - not Prosecco.

DamnAndDashIt · 28/05/2023 19:59

It's a real quandary, it's true.

I get around it by drinking the whole bottle. It's a sacrifice, but I just hate waste

nobodygoesdowninthejungle · 28/05/2023 20:28

Thanks for the answers. I have already done the "oh well, I'd better finish the bottle of prosecco" option and felt fairly ropey the next day! I'd also thought about the mini bottles of prosecco but that feels like quite an expensive option when you compare it to the price of a full bottle of prosecco ... but then I guess it's not different to the mark up with the cans/bottles of things like tonic.
I might try some of the other suggested mixers and, if they don't work, stock up on some mini bottles of Prosecco

NO!!!
It’s not an Aperol spritz without the Prosecco!

OMGitsnotgood · 28/05/2023 20:42

Tesco and Lidl do screw top Prosecco, that definitely keeps a few days. It's slightly lower alcohol too.
I use sparkling mineral water instead of soda, and it's fine. We tend to drink sparkling water with meals so no waste

They do indeed. Very good they are too. In fact, I think there's one lurking in the back of the fridge. Might have to put it out of its misery......

IWonderWhereThatDishDidGo · 28/05/2023 20:46

I have some special bottle stops for prosecco. They wouldn't last a week I don't think, but I can definitely leave it in the fridge for a few days without it going flat. Soda water I would drink all the time anyway, so doesn't make a difference

Tallisker · 28/05/2023 20:47

Fever Tree do little tins (cans? What's the difference?) of blood orange soda water and it's gorgeous with Aperol. I prefer it without the Prosecco, oddly.
