Advice on bottles of Sourz

Inmy40 · 28/05/2023 11:30

My older teenage DC want to hold a sleepover with friends during half term. They all take it in turns going to each others houses and parents provide small sensible amount of alcohol. Sourz is the in drink. There is 6 of them sleeping over. It’s 15% alcohol and I’ve researched that one bottle is like one strong bottle of wine. I don’t drink alcohol and so im out of my depth. 6 kids and 3 bottles of Sourz sound suitable? I don’t want drunk kids obviously. All parents happy for them to have a little drink as older teenagers soon to be adults. Many thanks

Equivalent to a half bottle of strong wine each.
I think teens drinking high strength isn’t great tbh. I’d rather they had more liquid and lower % but the total amount of units is fine if they are almost adults anyway.

Could you dilute with lemonade to make it go further?

Letsallthinkofaname · 28/05/2023 11:38

I used to drink vodka and archers as a teen and then use sourz for shots. I'd not be happy as a parent for a parent to supply that amount of alcohol though, one bottle and some softer alcohol maybe better.

Hia,

I'd say get them 1 or 2 bottles of sour and then you could get them a fruit cider each. Theese tend to be lower in alcohol and take longer to drink!
Personaly I was under the impression that sourz was a spirit and was like a shot? I remember doing them in the clubs lol. What are they drinking with it? If its just shots I'd say 1 bottle!! You will have very pissed teenagers as they will drink them fast. Slow is pro. As above said lower alcohol strength would be better.
Or maybe you could make cocktails. They are fun and you could make sure there was a healthy amount of other non alcoholic ingredients.
We used to make them with watermelon in the blender yum!

Mrsjayy · 28/05/2023 11:48

I mean if you want your child to do shots carry on nobody on the Internet Is going to give you permission.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 28/05/2023 11:49

How old is older teens?

Inmy40 · 28/05/2023 11:53

Nearly 18 so going off to uni in September and can drink all they want to then with no parents being in the house. I think I’ll get two bottles and lots of lemonade, soft drinks etc. thanks for all the helpful and non judgemental comments. This parenting of older teens is so tricky. If you clamp down too hard on them now they’ll just go wild with the freedom of uni in September.

I’m sure weatherspoons do a sourz cocktail … would they maybe go for that? A pretty Insta worthy picture and you have better control over the alcohol content.

KiLo13 · 28/05/2023 11:56

You could always have a chat with the other parents. Everyone's idea of how much is different.
I'm sure what ever you do will be fine. If they get too drunk then at least you will be there to hold thier hair back! As you said they are going to uni so a lesson in looking after eachother is always good!

nachotemple · 28/05/2023 11:57

I wouldn't get them cider to go with it as PP has suggested. Mixing any kind of drinks with other kids of drinks (especially cider) is a bad idea. More likely to lead to vomiting!

Inmy40 · 28/05/2023 12:00

Sourz cocktails are perfect thank you. Why didn’t I think of that? Probably because I’ve never drunk alcohol. Drunk teenagers throwing up is my idea of hell. Slightly tipsy is the aim at the most. Def not some wild alcoholic party!!

I’m trying to encourage responsible drinking. Who knows if it will work.

Sourz and lemonade is a good shout to dilute it. I used to drink Sourz when I was a teenager as shots, it's not very strong.

TeenLifeMum · 28/05/2023 12:18

Laughing at the suggestion to speak to the parents of 17-18 year olds.

cocktail is a good shout and then fruit ciders as another option.

can you still get wkd blue? That was all the rage in my teens but my mum refused to get them due to the colourings they had (she had no issue with the alcohol 😆). She encouraged vodka and lemonade and lime… still my favourite drink.

Magenta65 · 28/05/2023 12:19

😂😂 dilute it, really teens don’t see this as ‘cool’ likely they want it as shots or in a cocktail at a push. Depending on how many teens there are 2/3 bottles is plenty for shots and a few cocktails

Mrsjayy · 28/05/2023 12:25

Nearly 18 year olds are not going to be enjoying a blackcurrant sourz and lemonade

JDHC · 28/05/2023 12:53

She's nearly 18, some parents on this thread are hysterical.

Soubriquet · 28/05/2023 12:57

Sourz is my favourite shot type drink, but it’s also a fantastic one to mix.

Ny favourite is cherry sourz mixed with lemonade. Tastes like cherryade.

Mrsjayy · 28/05/2023 12:57

I'm not hysterical let them drink or not but trying justify it by putting lemonade in a drink that is essentially shots that's just plain daft.

I was agreeing with your reply..

Mine was aimed at some of the replies like 'talk to the parents' for these 17/18 year olds.

Lcb123 · 29/05/2023 07:44

Hilarious that parents of 17/18 year olds are discussing this. Guarantee they’ll drink way more than you provide - that’s just how it is!

Rowgtfc72 · 29/05/2023 07:44

My 16 year old takes this to parties. We also bought her one this weekend for half term, she dilutes hers with Lemonade.

Choccyoclocky · 29/05/2023 07:49

Purple rain is the Sourz cocktail from Wetherspoons. It is my absolute favourite! Blue curaçao, lemonade and cherry sourz. It tastes just like sherbert.

timegoingtooquickly · 29/05/2023 07:54

Oh god I could have written this.

My dd is 17 and going to a party next weekend. She doesn't drink, never (even though she's been offered the odd thing and knows it's not off limits at all. So now we've a week to get her match fit as she's decided she does want to drink now!

I have no issue with her drinking (she's 17) but she and I don't want her to be absolutely hammered. They've been mentioning sourz on her text group. I'm going to have to buy some this week aren't I to try with her 🤦🏼‍♀️

Inmy40 · 29/05/2023 08:14

As I see it it’s about trying to get them prepared for their life in September when they can do and drink whatever they want with no adult supervision. I don’t want dc to drink especially shots to be honest but it’s what they do and it’s our turn to host tomorrow night. Lovely compromise with Dc for Sourz cocktails with lemonade/no alcohol prosecco. Lots of pizzas, crisps, snacks etc for them to eat all evening.
