Advice on bottles of Sourz

My older teenage DC want to hold a sleepover with friends during half term. They all take it in turns going to each others houses and parents provide small sensible amount of alcohol. Sourz is the in drink. There is 6 of them sleeping over. It’s 15% alcohol and I’ve researched that one bottle is like one strong bottle of wine. I don’t drink alcohol and so im out of my depth. 6 kids and 3 bottles of Sourz sound suitable? I don’t want drunk kids obviously. All parents happy for them to have a little drink as older teenagers soon to be adults. Many thanks

Nearly 18? They have drank before so surely they'll know how much they usually have.

My Dc is saying they have a bottle each which I don’t believe for a second. I dont know or have contact with any other parents in the group as they met at sixth form college.

I was agreeing with your reply..

Mine was aimed at some of the replies like 'talk to the parents' for these 17/18 year olds.

So sorry i totally misunderstood your post.🙄 yes there is no point in trying to monitor near 18 year olds drinking they just want to do as many shots as they can.!

@Inmy40 I find a bottle each hard to believe, mainly for the fact that it is super sickly! Maybe get some sparking water too as an alternative to the lemonade.

Honestly my daughter just hasn't drunk before and I know it's true as due to covid she's hardly been out for years so I know she hasn't secretly been drinking!! Doesn't matter if they are nearly 18 they may not have been drinking much before!

Sounds like it is a regular thing for op's dd to go to others houses and drinkand she has restarted her social life in the 2 years since covid restrictions lifted, just has not been at ops house yet.

During lockdown she would have only been 14-16 so not unusual to not drink then even without covid.

OP I just had a quick look on Tesco and Sourz has ideas for cocktails or Spritzs on their item pages

i thought the point in diluting it with lemonade is multiple fold - because it will go a lot further / last longer, the lemonade also is somewhat hydrating vs alcohol dehydrating... and it absorbs slower into the system because it is lower alcohol volume.

I don't understand why people would say mixing with lemonade is pointless?

DD is 19 - Apple Sourz is popular with them but I’ve never heard of it being used as anything other than a shot. It’s incredibly tart + sweet, you couldn’t drink a glass of it! At that age she would’ve brought a few cans of cider/ smirnoff ice and then there would be a few bottles of vodka supplied by host to mix with cola etc

Soubriquet · 30/05/2023 11:18

Apple sourz is definitely a shot. You wouldn’t mix it.

Cherry Sourz tastes like cherryade when mixed with lemonade

Blackcurrant sourz can also be mixed to be made into blackcurrantade or sherbet flavour with curaçao added with the lemonade

highlandspooce · 30/05/2023 11:21

They are nearly 18 why don't you ask them what they want? You say you want to encourage sensible drinking but it's hard to do so whilst exercising such control over them.

Danikm151 · 30/05/2023 11:26

Cherry sourz and coke was my drink at that age.
it’s not strong compared to a vodka and coke.

now when she’s older…. Cherry sourz, gold tequila and lemonade is amazing

WetBandits · 30/05/2023 11:29

A couple of bottles of Sourz between six sounds very reasonable Smile at least they’re drinking at home under parental supervision rather than chugging a bottle or two of Mickey Finn at a random party in a field at 15 after telling their parents they were at a sleepover (definitely not my first experience of drinking Blush)

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 30/05/2023 12:35

In my day Spurs was just for shots but now it’s often drunk with lemonade. At 15% it’ll make a less alcoholic drink than cider or WKD.
