@Hehehejeiej I think it would be very unwise of ITV to try to use Caroline Flack as a deflection tactic now. Because it may well lead the public to think that she was already used as a deflection tactic just before her death. Which happened in February 2020 the same month and year that Schofield came out. ITV showed her absolutely no support.

Support for what?

She was arrested and charged for assaulting her boyfriend and causing injury.

She had a long history of mental illness and previous suicide attempts. She killed herself the day after prosecutors told her they would be proceeding with the charges for domestic violence despite her boyfriend's request to drop them.

Public scrutiny was intense but it wasn't the precipitating factor in her suicide.

It is only rumour and speculation that Philip had known him since he was 10 or 11. There is no evidence of any interaction between them until MM was 15. And even then it isn't known what contact they had between 15 and 18 beyond a few tweets.

It is also only rumour and speculation that there was some kind of injunction in place that kept MM from telling the truth to ITV or the press about his relationship with Philip. MM quite well had no desire to become a public spectacle or to be known for a relationship with an older man. He wanted to work in TV - it is hard to get work if your public image is PS's boyfriend.

His daughter works for his former agent. That could be awkward.

Also:

I now know why Gordon never spoke - he was too shocked to verbalise his feelings.

There's a photo they both appear in at the time PS was mentoring the theatre group MM was part of (mm is around 10 yes old at the time)

Why would I be banned? Pederasty is an actual thing and happens between men and young teens. As far as I know it’s not a hetero thing?

I agree.

I used exactly the same word when I was telling DH about Schofield.

I said (roughly) "He's done nothing illegal apparently, but grooming a child and emotionally manipulating him until he is 'of age' to sh*g might not be 'illegal', but it is sordid and vile and the action of an arrogant, cunning, narcissistic pederast. It's morally indefensible, legal or not".

Well I’ve read it all now 🙄

milveycrohn · 27/05/2023 15:15

I've obviously missed something, as I thought this was revealed a couple of years ago, when he admitted to being gay.

Enfys1982 · 27/05/2023 15:16

You don’t get dropped by your management and sacked by your employer just for having an affair. No, there’s clearly something much more sinister and darker at play here. And to whoever asked not hard to find out about the male escort he was living with during lockdown.

Nope. It was only a rumour on the internet which wouldn't go away. Mainly because it was true.

He is 15 in the picture. The date of the picture is known and MMs birthday is known.

Exactly.

Having had an affair and it being revealed would all be part of the poor brave Phil having to hide who he really was narrative.

DM IS making me laugh- under OUR HANDS ARE CLEAN- is an article about UK’s dirtiest takeaways.

Subtle.

This photo? There seems to be conflicting info abou MMs age here, but TBH it makes little difference, he was still a child and no adult has any business befriending a child they don't know on social media.

I see the point you're wanting to make but they're incomparable. All of those examples were not claiming to be straight, let alone in marriages with men.
They did not announce their sexuality publicly till this century (or they just became famous this century also).

Schofield was famous from the 80s and had a seemingly happy straight marriage for decades.

Schofield was news because he'd presented himself in his TV career as a straight man for decades and in a happy straight marriage for much of that time.

I think you have misunderstood.

The point I am making is that ITV’s investigation would have been promoted because his behaviour was inappropriate in the work place, not because he was gay or having an affair.

Merrymouse · 27/05/2023 15:44

Sorry, prompted, not promoted.

Merrymouse · 27/05/2023 15:45

inappropriate in the work place or had broken the law.

alfagirl73 · 27/05/2023 15:53

Certain things about this stand out to me. There are a LOT of people who have spoken out about PS' behaviour and there seems to be way more people happy that he's gone than are supporting him. In terms of his most recent statement and events - it SCREAMS of being an attempt to get his story out first before the bigger story breaks. When he announced he was leaving TM it was apparently agreed so that he had enough time to get out of London (although that didn't make much difference as he was photographed in Cornwall) before the announcement was made.

I've heard a few times today that there is more news coming out tomorrow (I think in the Mail on Sunday) and the timing of the statement etc. feels very much like they've told him they're going to break the bigger story and they've given him a chance to say his piece first and get things in order before it is published.

The vibe I'm getting is that everyone is desperate to distance themselves from him asap - ITV, other celebs and most importantly - his agent. If this was a bit of a scandal and nothing worse was expected to come out then I'd have expected his agent to hold on to him - let the dust settle for a while and he'd eventually turn up on some reality show or whatever or reinvent himself a bit and make a come-back. An agent doesn't drop one of their own shareholders and biggest money makers unless it would be more costly to hold onto them. The fact they've dropped him and the general vibe is that everyone is condemning him - and he has had to admit that he has lied to everyone - suggests to me that there is worse to come.

I obviously don't know - but just saying the vibe I'm getting from it all.

Prettydress · 27/05/2023 16:04

It's been a while since I read a thread from start to finish. But yes, I get the impression PS is in damaged limitation and there is ( sadly) worse to come.

It pained me to cut and paste this quote from Twitter, as I hate the man. But someone upthread mentioned it:

'Schofield has finally been caught out ... But he's not the only guilty party. 4 high members of Itv management knew what sort of man he was ...and NEVER once took action to prevent him controlling or taking advantage of his position over young people.'

He refers to young people. Plural 😞

Prettydress · 27/05/2023 16:05

Apologies, the Twitter quite is from Eamonn Holmes.

EsmaCannonball · 27/05/2023 16:07

Phillip is seven years older than his convicted child sex abuser brother. And he didn't report him to the police. One could speculate that the older brother may bear some responsibility for how the younger one turned out.

JenniferBooth · 27/05/2023 16:08

A Dispatches investigation that was done four years ago about the Jeremy Kyle show has just come up in my Facebook memories.

Yes, that picture, along with 3 others pictures of the visit were posted on the 2 Faced Theatre Company's SM on May 14. 2011 at 5:22 pm with the Title: Q and A with Philip Schofield 14/05/2011 and a comment about the visit.

MM was born March 21, 1996. Basic math will tell you he was 15 at the time of that visit.

And his brother might not speak out as Phillip is the one with the purse-strings in the family. He's going to be in his 60's and unemployable when he gets out of prison.
